Ending sentence fragments with a full stop, Classic or Dud?

I'm only posting this because my Sociology teacher once went off on a big long rant about why this is so bad, and it really stuck with me. I'm not sure though, I always end my one word posts here with a full stop, but sometimes I look at them and see myself pausing for dramatic effect and saying period in a really smug way with an affirmative nod.

Is this the most boring thread ever?

Yes. No. Maybe. I think.

Occasionally okay for effect.

BTW, does this sociology teacher say everything in complete sentences? Even when answering yes-or-no questions? (I seem to remember, years ago when I took Latin, being told that classical Latin did not have "yes" or "no"--in response to a question such as "Did you go to the Coliseum yesterday?" the Roman would have to answer "I did go to the Coliseum yesterday," or "I did not go to the Coliseum yesterday.")

could they just say 'I went'?

It was in reference to a poster or something, he didn't like them being on bullet points that weren't proper sentences.
