I can't decide. Every time I read another Slashdot in-joke I become convinced it's just a bunch of hopeless geeks; but there is a remarkable amount of information, and it's still the first place I go (not google) when I find out about a new person/thing/historical thingie/concept.

I used to be involved, and got quite high up too. I got into it when it was still fun, ages and ages ago. The problem was it got a bit too popular, and as a result of all the crap that transient users would add to it, it became hypermoderated to the point that it was all but completely humourless. I'm glad that it exists but near the end of my association it felt like reading the encyclopedia.

Yeah, I went back recently to find a few dozen of my 500-odd deleted. No big loss really.

I still prefer this sometimes to wikipedia.
