Nine Queens / Nueve Reinas - overrated, sub-mamet disappointment

I went to see Nine Queens the other day and was severely disappointed. Redeemed only by local colour, the ending was all too predictable (and I'm normally slow on the uptake), the suspense was mild at best and I came home feeling that I'd only been moderately entertained. And the bloody thing got wild reviews.

I thought it was very enjoyable. It was kind of obvious there was going to be some kind of twist at the end, the one we got was not exactly what I had in mind, but still.

there is a great post about it on the IMDB from some Argentine bloke: "At last a film set in Argentina, where no one breaks into fucking tango at any point".

The final twist was predictable if you wanted to think about it, but if you didn't try too hard it was quite entertaining. I was impressed by the acting anyway.

IMDB = the Cardiff Internet Movie Database, Dan (www.imdb.com) - get with the 1995 program!

Wow!! There is something WORSE than a David Mamet movie!?!?! I'll avoid this at all costs.

It took me long enough. I just wanted to get it off my chest about this film. It was nicely acted and maybe I ought not to be overly concerned with plot lines, but I expected from the reviews some new twist on the genre.
