WEDNESDAY 14TH JULY

THE LYCEUM TAVERN, THE STRAND, LONDON WC1

FROM 5:30/6 PM

Alas poor boards, we knew them all too well...

Tom, Tuesday, 13 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

blimey you gigantic pissheads, i won't be there that early! but will definitely be along for an ale or 2, oh yes...

katie, Tuesday, 13 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

is this next year?

Sam, Tuesday, 13 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Are you going to post this ILM? It might be interesting.

Graham, Tuesday, 13 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

ILX in time travel breakthrough!

Archel, Tuesday, 13 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

And cos I'm too proud of my own (lack of) work...

Alan Trewartha, Tuesday, 13 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

With regd to Tim H's comments about size of pub - I chuck arrows in there most weeks on Tues, Wed or Thursday and the place is usually empty. There's loads of room upstairs and down. You can move tables about easily too. I'll be along mid-doors (7-7.30 ish) and will be over by the dart board downstairs at the back.

Dr. C, Tuesday, 13 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

haha by then we will have moved ALL THE TABLES so you cannot see the dartboard

mark s, Tuesday, 13 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Then I shall throw darts at you!

What I should have said is that it is sometimes busy-ish until about 7 pm and then empties out.

Dr. C, Tuesday, 13 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i will be there at 8.05

gareth, Tuesday, 13 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Is this a private party or can anyone join in?

Matt DC, Tuesday, 13 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Anyone with a TARDIS. It is my week for carelessness :(

Yes anyone can come - please do!

Tom, Tuesday, 13 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Which page are you starting from?

the pinefox, Tuesday, 13 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I'll be there in spirit.

jel --, Tuesday, 13 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Very probably, then... how will I find you, or will it be patently obvious?

Matt DC, Tuesday, 13 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I might be there. I'll have a black puma bag. damn it, I hope i can make it.

Julio Desouza, Tuesday, 13 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

They will be the loud shouty mentalists, can't miss 'em :)

i may come, although WEEK OF KWIZ duties may prevail...

CarsmileSteve, Wednesday, 14 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I'll definitely be coming so mark s can bring that CD instead of posting it (if he is).

Graham, Wednesday, 14 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I will be there, but probably not until 8 or 8.30 (as I am off to the Tate first to see the Picasso/Matisse show, before it closes any day now) so I won't describe me as an aide to new arrivals trying to spot us. I'm not sure that info like 'dark suit, white shirt, red tie, short hair' is that selective in central London after work hours anyway...

Martin Skidmore, Wednesday, 14 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

**'dark suit, white shirt, red tie, short hair'**

(sings) 'SWE-EET GENE VINCENT/ THERE'S ONE IN EVERY TOWN!'

Dr. C, Wednesday, 14 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Creaky, Dr. C have you been going through a Stiff Records phase? Will you be using your "Son of Stiff Tour" dart flights (feat. Tenpole Tudor, Dirty Looks and Joe "King" Carrasco & the Clowns)?

Tim, Wednesday, 14 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

cd in my muji backpack, revolution on my mind, lalala

mark s, Wednesday, 14 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Who are you calling 'creaky', Tim!!

No, I was thinking of using my 'Nick Lowe' set with Kippington Lodge, Brinsley Schwartz and Rockpile.

Dr. C, Wednesday, 14 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Could The Lyceum be describes as being in the Heart Of The City?

David, Wednesday, 14 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

duh, "described"

David, Wednesday, 14 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Mooro, you're Cracking Up.

Tim, Wednesday, 14 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Its OK though - I Love The Sound Of Breaking Glass

David, Wednesday, 14 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Unfortunately can't make it :(

Have fun. Hopefully we'll get an excuse for another one soon.

Julio Desouza, Wednesday, 14 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

*cries like Ned* we need an excuse??

katie, Wednesday, 14 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

well...we must do it sometime then.

Julio Desouza, Wednesday, 14 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

nichole g. wants to know is charing X the cloest-easiest tube or where? (i cannot get the map-link on the other thread to work)

(she is offline this week hence i am her vicar on earth)

mark s, Wednesday, 14 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Probably

Graham, Wednesday, 14 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Yes Charing Cross (though any of Temple, Holborn, Cov Gdn or Leicester Square are within 10 mins walk).

The Lyceum is on the North side of the Strand, a little way to the West of where the Aldwych does its loopy business.

Tim, Wednesday, 14 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

from my map looks like charing x is the easiest - the full address is 354 the Strand, so if you go up Villiers street from charing x and turn right onto the strand you shd be heading straight for it!

katie, Wednesday, 14 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

NB depending on which exit you take from CC you might not even see Villiers St at all...

Tim, Wednesday, 14 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

ah yes. good point tim! um... walk round till you find it? ;)

katie, Wednesday, 14 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

(not as flip as it sounds - there'll be one of those little "you are here" mappy tings in the station won't there?)

katie, Wednesday, 14 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Take the Strand (North) exit. Then you just go along the Strand until it curves up to Aldwych, opposite Waterloo Bridge.

Dr. C, Wednesday, 14 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

If you walk along the Strand until you see Nelson's column you've gone the wrong way.

Tim, Wednesday, 14 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i have texted nichole with the actually useful elements of this advice

mark s, Wednesday, 14 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

SinXor as utility filter => I have no expectation of seeing Nichole this evening.

Tim, Wednesday, 14 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

basically i dropped yr contributions gothboy

mark s, Wednesday, 14 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

*sob*

Tim, Wednesday, 14 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm still ill and off work today - but that does not mean that I shouldn't be able to stumble along for a quick few. I shall be coughing a bit though. COUGH COUGH. RETCH. ect ect.

Sarah, Wednesday, 14 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Can I say again.

Pete, Wednesday, 14 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

"just when it's safe to go back in the water, you can't even cross the beach"

mark s, Wednesday, 14 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Pete if you choose to go supping on the cocktail badness with hammerheads it's your own business and your bahs will count for nothing here.

Tim, Wednesday, 14 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

No Pete.

Graham, Wednesday, 14 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Graham gets a slap next time I see him for taking out my bah.

Pete, Wednesday, 14 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I am not promising anything but I might come along. It's been a frustrating day, the sort of day where you don't feel you've actually made any progress with anything, and everyone who could help you is way too busy doing other things. So I could do with some cheering up. It is specifically urgent and key that I see Dr C and Ktee if no one else 'cos I feel guilty being out of touch with them.

Drat, if I'd decided this earlier Mark, I could have asked you to bring over those NLR back issues grrr!

Marcello Carlin, Wednesday, 14 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i haven't actually cracked em open yet, marcello, to choose the useful ones, so just as well

mark s, Wednesday, 14 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

how did it go?? I want DETAILS!

MarkH, Thursday, 15 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Mark, try this website: hehe

jel --, Thursday, 15 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

there was beer! and i was most miffed about having to leave early, however it was THE LAW.

katie, Thursday, 15 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

bah! I was in foreign so obviously missed this little bouze-up.

I have also missed all footy news (though I heard of Liverpool's defeat and Chesterfields appalling start)

Tim H, I have the next bottle of evil cider for you to try though!

chris, Thursday, 15 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

THE LAW: there are many interpretations of this. I give two possibilities:
1. A policeperson or policepeople turned up and arrested you and you spent a NITE IN THE CELLS (NB this is unlikely, as you are NICE)
2. You are making a comment about the ridiculous licensing laws in this country (DORA, 1914, rhubarb rhubarb....)

MarkH, Thursday, 15 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

intriguing possibilities mark H, but no, it was merely the self- imposed LAW of not going out and getting shitfaced this week, and being in bed at a reasonable hour after the ruin of tintagel-like proportions that was last week...

katie, Thursday, 15 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Random thoughts on last night :

* Sorry I couldn't chat more to everyone with the dartXor match downstairs an' ting. We won 7-4 if anyone cares. I was on fire!

* I have the impression that I was extremely wrecked when I did join the ILX party.

* I have the impression that the ILX party were wrecked when I joined them.

* I bummed cigarettes AGAIN - sorry Gareth, Anna! Will bring own next FAP.

* Sorry for dragging people to Waterloo in futile search for bar. Thank god it was closed. Did you find more boozXor?

* Thank god the train terminated at Strawberry Hill - I fell into a beer sleep and was woken by driver. It could easily have been Reading or Windsor!

* You're all wonderful people. A great night again!

Dr. C, Thursday, 15 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Dr C - did you instigate the train singalong??

Sarah, Thursday, 15 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

No - not enough people on the the train and too spread out. A shame!

Dr. C, Thursday, 15 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

When I had to present a website to a picky (though not unpleasant) audience at a meeting first thing this morning I was *very* pleased we didn't find anywhere else.
