I know a couple of people with mowers like that. If you have a small lawn, they're actually way more convenient than a gas or electric mower.

You can still buy blades for the old style of safety razor.

I want a push mower. I used a friend's old push mower and it worked great. You could even run with it. Only problem is who you're going to get to sharpen those blades. I have a friend who grew up with them and you know who sharpened the blades? He and his brother did, with a file, and it was a bitch. Regular mowers are so noisy. I hate them.

You probably could use a sharpening service at a hardware store. Not even a mom & pop. Ace does them.

Yeah, I would hope so. I should take my kitchen knives to be sharpened. I've never done that and it seems like fun.

Office Max has a whole section like this! I swear, all the typewiter ribbons, answering machine tapes, and floppy discs were all in this same little aisle.

Altough answering machine tapes can still be used in handheld recorders. I was in a college bookstore today and they were still selling those, alongside the sleek'n'shiny Olympus digital recorders.

Seems you can even still buy these babies - so expensive per/mb!

Even op shops cant shift 2nd hand VHS tapes anymore. I have a whole bunch of awesome music videos on VHS and ive been meaning to digitize them forever. I really should, before they disintegrate. There's an awesome episode of Rage hosted by the Butthole Surfers and Gibby is stoned off his trolley or something.

Orlando has a typewriter repair store (LUST Typewriter Repair, the sign says), although mostly Mr Lust repairs cash machines, I think. I bought a ribbon and he told me what grade of machine oil to buy and where to oil (only the slot where the bar rests).

rotary phones were great. we had them in my house when I was growing up and at least until 1992 or so.

i would have a rotary phone if I could. I had a phone from like, the 40's in the 80's; it was HEAVY. so great! we didn't get a push button phone until 1987

We live in a smallish town these days and it kind of amazes me that there are actually several sharpening services that are still just little trucks that circle the neighborhoods, ringing a bell so you can run out and have them fix your hedge shears or whatever. I like it!

Yeah, rotary phones are cool, but the practice of leasing them from the phone company should have died out after Ma Bell got cut to pieces. I still remember going to the "phone store" and picking out a phone to rent - like you would for your DVR box from Comcast or something. But that trip happened WHEN I WAS A SMALL BOY, NOT FIVE YEARS AGO.

My son keeps messing with the "princess phone" i keep on my nightstand. I called a friend the other day and realized that after pushing the buttons, it was going tick-tick-tick in the earpiece. The boy had switched the phone over from touch tone to pulse dialing, a feature that enabled customers in rotary areas to still use push-button phones. When will they finally stop making those, I don't know, but I've still got one.

At my old job we had to take an imprint of every card used.

We also used the fax machine regularly. If you wanted to do a phone order you had to fax a copy of your credit card and driver’s license.

About once every 18-24 months, I dash through my hard drive looking for the cover sheet that I used last time. Something so odd about editing text in Acrobat, printing it off and then faxing it through our photocopier. Definitely feels like I'm living inside a prediction made in 1976 of the year 2021.
