I am right there with you

instead of a brain in the subway mila kunis going down on you (silby), Tuesday, 1 March 2011 05:16 (fourteen years ago)

This ran for 220 episodes?!

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 1 March 2011 05:24 (fourteen years ago)

Colin Mochrie

corey, Tuesday, 1 March 2011 05:43 (fourteen years ago)

Oh yeah. When it looked like there was gonna be an actors strike around 2001-2002, ABC got the company together for a few weeks and stockpiled dozens upon dozens of eps to fill holes in the schedule that ultimately didn't happen because the strike was averted. So they ended up running off double shots of these eps every week and they still kept filming more. IIRC, this was one of the cheapest to make non-reality shows at the time.

i'm just gonna vote for wayne brady

pop the s1ock (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 1 March 2011 06:14 (fourteen years ago)

You disparage Taco Bell and then vote for Wayne Brady? lol

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 1 March 2011 06:19 (fourteen years ago)

everyone on this show is a massive tool, i don't see how wayne is better or worse than any of them

pop the s1ock (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 1 March 2011 06:20 (fourteen years ago)

colin mochre is my least favorite

pop the s1ock (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 1 March 2011 06:21 (fourteen years ago)

For me it's between Colin and Proops, though I can't deny the toolishness of the entire enterprise.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 1 March 2011 06:23 (fourteen years ago)

I always kind of wondered what it was like to go to a taping of this. I mean, the regular bits are funny but I have no idea how they improvise those songs; like, you have to rhyme, you have to sing it in a certain style, hit a certain number of syllables per line...are they really talented enough to come up with that on the spot? Or do they get a minute or two? BTW I used to love this show when I was 16...haven't seen it much since. Can't believe there have been 220 episodes.

frogbs, Tuesday, 1 March 2011 14:31 (fourteen years ago)

yeah it may be uncool to give Wayne Brady props (and not in the way Drew Carey gave him props), but it was very clear like the moment he showed on Whose Line that he was one of the best at it that either version of the show's ever had and that he was gonna get famous pretty quickly.

some dude, Tuesday, 1 March 2011 14:34 (fourteen years ago)

thought about voting Ryan Stiles cuz I always liked his (lol) style/character/personality the most, but some dude convinced me to vote for Wayne Brady cuz he was undeniably very very talented and brought me and my family tons of lolz

odd future wolves GM trade them all (bernard snowy), Tuesday, 1 March 2011 14:37 (fourteen years ago)

(and not in the way Drew Carey gave him props)

What does this mean?

Tom D (Tom D.), Tuesday, 1 March 2011 14:39 (fourteen years ago)

many of the routines in the show involved the host giving the performers comedy props to come up with amusing scenarios for. i was making a dad joke playing off of the phrase "giving props," as in giving someone their proper respect.

some dude, Tuesday, 1 March 2011 14:41 (fourteen years ago)

Stiles or Proops.

Would say the British version was better, but we had to put up with the god-awful Tony Slattery.

emil.y, Tuesday, 1 March 2011 14:41 (fourteen years ago)

Ah, right, get you now, thought there might have been some salacious sexual gossip to be had (xp)

Tom D (Tom D.), Tuesday, 1 March 2011 14:42 (fourteen years ago)

Anyway, this was on Channel Five US (or whatever it's called)... in fact, scratch that this WAS Channel Five US for about 5 years solid, I hardly watched anything else on television but this

Tom D (Tom D.), Tuesday, 1 March 2011 14:45 (fourteen years ago)

i loved the UK version for years before the Drew Carey version came on here (I think they ran it on PBS here?), always kinda wished the US version brought in more of the British guys from the original instead of mainly reusing the token Americans/Canadians.

some dude, Tuesday, 1 March 2011 15:27 (fourteen years ago)

Americanucks eventually took over the UK version because they were just so much better at it

Tom D (Tom D.), Tuesday, 1 March 2011 15:29 (fourteen years ago)

1. proops 2. stiles 3. mochrie

a nan, a bal, an anal ― (abanana), Tuesday, 1 March 2011 15:31 (fourteen years ago)

but is wayne brady really that famous?? he's famous for this show and the dave chappelle thing...afaik his own show kind of tanked. or is he still famous?

frogbs, Tuesday, 1 March 2011 15:32 (fourteen years ago)

Voted Stiles

Tom D (Tom D.), Tuesday, 1 March 2011 15:39 (fourteen years ago)

this show was a giant scam because they basically just did standard improv exercises that any performer in any troupe can do yet these guys were treated like geniuses

but is wayne brady really that famous?? he's famous for this show and the dave chappelle thing...afaik his own show kind of tanked. or is he still famous?

― frogbs, Tuesday, March 1, 2011 10:32 AM (4 minutes ago) Bookmark

wayne brady was definitely the guy who got the most shine off whose line, led to him getting other hosting gigs and briefly being beloved by white middle americans... i have no idea what hes doing now though

ℳℴℯ ❤\(◕‿◕✿ (Princess TamTam), Tuesday, 1 March 2011 15:46 (fourteen years ago)

... he's in a new improv comedy thing in the UK

Tom D (Tom D.), Tuesday, 1 March 2011 15:48 (fourteen years ago)

yeah obv brady is not some huge star but when the US version became a hit he was kind of anointed the breakout star and at least has a higher profile than just about anyone else from it besides Carey and maybe Stiles -- i mean he was famous enough to be parodied in that Chappelle's Show bit

some dude, Tuesday, 1 March 2011 15:49 (fourteen years ago)

... apparently so bad the BBC won't have it on its website

Tom D (Tom D.), Tuesday, 1 March 2011 15:50 (fourteen years ago)

Wayne Brady hosts (hosted?) an updated version of Let's Make a Deal that airs in syndication on US tv now...though I haven't seen it in a while, so it may already be gone.

He's no Monty Hall.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 1 March 2011 15:51 (fourteen years ago)

Ha! Poor Wayne.

As of 2011, it is one of only two CBS network programs not yet broadcast in HDTV, instead broadcasting solely in standard-definition 480i.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 1 March 2011 15:53 (fourteen years ago)

Yeah I saw his Let's Make a Deal one or two times. He seemed…bored. Which is too bad, because Let's Make a Deal is an inherently enjoyable format. It's giving things away to people for unclear reasons! Preference ordering! Expected value! What's not to love?

instead of a brain in the subway mila kunis going down on you (silby), Tuesday, 1 March 2011 17:39 (fourteen years ago)

who was treating these guys as geniuses?

mizzell, Tuesday, 1 March 2011 17:43 (fourteen years ago)

Ryan. Ryan and Colin will be tied.

Proops talked a bit about how he got Whose Line on the Nerdist podcast. Apparently the audition process was brutal.

reggaeton for the painfully alone (polyphonic), Wednesday, 2 March 2011 23:09 (fourteen years ago)

Mochrie, just because of the green screen stuff. Ryan was probably the most consistently decent.

EZ Snappin, Wednesday, 2 March 2011 23:12 (fourteen years ago)

Actually not sure if I've ever seen the US version or just the UK one, since Mochrie, Stiles, Proops were fixtures on that too when I watched. Voting Stiles based on those.

Mochrie or Stiles. My favorite moment on the show came in one of the "superhero" sketches, in which Stiles is dubbed "Panicky Ski Jump Puppet Man."

they basically just did standard improv exercises that any performer in any troupe can do

If so, then all the members of the Whose Line cast should have been equally as funny as one another, too. But there was clearly a drop off in quality when they cycled in most of the new faces, aside from the top three or four in the list (excluding Drew Carey, who was barely average).

Aimless, Thursday, 3 March 2011 01:33 (fourteen years ago)

This is basically just a 4 man race depending on who you like better: Greg or Brad

CaptainLorax, Thursday, 3 March 2011 01:39 (fourteen years ago)

in which case Greg wins the UK vote

three weeks pass...

So when does the new improv show start? I'd check but I'm on my phone. I saw a commercial for it on Game Show Network a little while ago. Colin, Ryan, Drew and Wayne were there

Drew Carey's Improv-A Ganza shines with Proops, Stiles, Mangum, Kinney, Mochrie, Davis
“Drew Carey’s Improv-A-Ganza” the Perfect Successor to “Whose Line is it Anyway?”
“Drew Carey’s Improv-A-Ganza” Advance Review

" Seriously, you’ve seen most of these people before. Aside from Carey, the cast includes Whose Line regulars Jeff Davis, Chip Esten, Greg Proops, Brad Sherwood, Colin Mochrie and Ryan Stiles. They’re joined by Carey’s Drew Carey Show colleague Kathy Kinney, who guested on Whose Line, and Jonathan Mangum, who appeared on Carey’s last improv TV series, Drew Carey’s Green Screen Show. The lineup is rounded out by MadTV alum Heather Anne Campbell, and Wayne Brady, who is set to appear as a recurring “special guest.” As far as improvisational comedy goes, this is a pretty well-known troupe – the closest we’ll ever get to a revival of Whose Line. "

The show airs every weeknight starting on Monday April 11th

cold hands of monkeys on my heart (CaptainLorax), Tuesday, 5 April 2011 20:12 (fourteen years ago)

colin should walk out with a cane and do the willy wonka gag and then when he comes up from the somersault he should pretend like he put his back out. okay, my mind is racing because I haven't had any sleep. my horoscope otm for today

there's a weird Single White Female thing going on where Drew Carey is gradually looking more and more like Greg Proops
