this exhibit at MOMA sounds good, you could check out the Abstract Expressionist show too, and grab some lunch from the halal cart on the corner of 6th & 53rd.

check out the listings for Film Forum, BAM and Anthology Film Archives for starters.
my 'show tourists' routine has basically become: high line, inwood, jackson heights, brownstoney brooklyn
you should just walk around for hours though, that's the best thing anywhere
― iatee, Saturday, 5 March 2011 22:15 (fourteen years ago)
i suggest you check out gimme records on 5th street between 1st & 2nd ave.

out of curiosity, which good record stores that were around ca. 2001–2 are still there?

languorous walk from greenpoint to to williamsburg through its mainly jewish area to fort greene to atlantic ave is one of my faves, so you're well situated. it sounds kinda inventoried laid out like that but it's just a drift. walking through new york is the greatest, the shifts in landscape/built environment are super pleasing.

Also, when's the last time anyone set foot in Rockit Scientist?
― ilxor astro-ilx? (James Redd and the Blecchs), Sunday, 6 March 2011 18:58 (fourteen years ago)
rockit scientist, as nice as john is, is still sort of overpriced. but you can occasionally find cool stuff there.

Come to museum of the moving image in Astoria, and maybe ps1 while you're in queens.
Let's meet up. I'm imagining your gf looks like Anna karina for some reason.
― Virginia Plain, Sunday, 6 March 2011 19:26 (fourteen years ago)

This means the vinyl Academy store BTW, the one on 18th St btw 6th and 5th is still in the same place and is mecca if you have any interest in Classical or Jazz on CD or Classical on vinyl.
