mark s, Thursday, 15 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

katie, Thursday, 15 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

katie, Thursday, 15 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

I went to collect some photographs from the developer's last week, and when they asked what my name was, I gave them the online nic I use on another MB. Doh.

C J, Thursday, 15 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

*ribbit*

jel --, Thursday, 15 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

when i first got on the net in like '97 or something and spent hours and hours and hours a day on IRC, i'd frequently catch myself about to say "lol" while talking to friends. that always freaked me out.

g-kit, Thursday, 15 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Seriously, what is so odd about saying haha?

N., Thursday, 15 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Has anyone started pronouncing things funny (like trying to say "bngbss") to save themselves from being googled yet?

Martin Skidmore, Thursday, 15 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

ha ha, i was going to mock up a google front pages with "Web" "Images" "Groups" "Real Life" but you get the idea.

Alan Trewartha, Thursday, 15 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

for a while i was thinking "haha..." a lot but i don't think it ever actually went verbal.

Ron, Thursday, 15 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

I use hax0r and rox0r on a daily basis (even though I know it's not pronounced "hacksaw" I say it that way regardless)

electric sound of jim, Thursday, 15 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

haha mark s.

rainy, Thursday, 15 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

answer that question! why is it weird to preface remarks about something funny with "haha"? or do you mean yo weren't even talkin about something funny. or what. i don't get it.

unknown or illegal user, Friday, 16 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

I think the 'ha ha' that prefaces posts here is a formalised tic, a concentrated expression of 'that was funny; guess what, this is quite funny too; I'm laughing at myself pretty much, in case you needed to know'. It's not the laughing that might precede something you say (which surely couldn't be transcribed 'ha ha'? Wouldn't that be more like an Ally-style 'pffft' or a kind of 'hnnh'? It's not even a word, goddamit, unless my laugh is particularly weird).

See what I just did there? I ruined a perfectly good meme w/ overexplanation. This is my destiny and my curse.

Ellie, Friday, 16 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

One day in the midst of intense multiplayer X-box competition I caught two friends calling the rest of the group "fux0rs" after tag- team rocket-launcher slaughters. I asked where they'd picked that up, and it turns out I've been muttering "fux0rs" under my breath whenever someone nails me with the sniper rifle / sneaks up behind me with the shotgun / knocks my head off with the hovercraft / throws a grenade under my tank.

nabisco, Friday, 16 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

I often think "rofl" and "imho".

"rofl" reminds me a bit of "rumba rumba snort rip" which Garfield used to say and my friends and I used to imitate.

toraneko, Friday, 16 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Oy vey, yes. Things like ChiXOrs and rOXors have permeated real life. As has saying "equals" intead of is. As in, "Oh my god, Andrew Scott equals HOT!!!"

kate, Friday, 16 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

I love the sound of RoXoR, everyone around me just thinks Im wierd.

mr noodles, Friday, 16 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

crikey toraneko, i remember when i first read "rumba rumba snort rip" in garfield and lauged so hard i thought i'd rupture something. there was a brief phase of running around the house yelling it and collapsing in a mirthful heap, but no-one got it, so i stopped. i'm glad someone else found it amusing also!

katie, Friday, 16 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

no ellie people do say Ha ha as opposed to just laffing Ha ha. it's just normal!

unknown or illegal user, Friday, 16 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

I only know of this as an ironic or tired 'ha ha', like if someone tells you a really old joke that, yeh, is still funny but now only in principle. But duane I am glad that otherpeople say 'ha ha' with enthusiam and sincerity.

Ellie, Friday, 16 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

whenever i'm having trouble remembering what words are (it happens all the time with short easy words and it's sad) i sometimes say internet things, especially "equals". (and i've said "oh no fite!" a few times but i get looked at oddly.)

Maria, Friday, 16 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

"Dud" has crept into my vocab b/c of ILM. Instead of saying something sucks now, I go with "oh yeah, it's a total fucking dud." Also because of the Brits: "ace."

bnw, Saturday, 17 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

haha = nelson muntz = mark sinker. btw, i already say "IRL" IRL.

di, Saturday, 17 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

the real bad infl. of the internet is now i use lots of dumm american slang like saying "i'm all about [bla bla]" or shit like that. fucking imperialist internet!

unknown or illegal user, Saturday, 17 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

you know i've been using "obv." in spoken speech since like 1978? my high school buddy phil howe made that up.

duane, Saturday, 17 August 2002 23:30 (twenty-two years ago)

haha!!

hey!!

mark s (mark s), Saturday, 17 August 2002 23:35 (twenty-two years ago)

K blimey, my language now = much ILxOr speech, oh no! Memes Oh no! Try to explain to someone in real life why this is grebt and they will think you=cockfarmer which is rubb. I ph34r it. Well, I mean it's just this thing really. Hein?

Anna, Sunday, 18 August 2002 13:26 (twenty-two years ago)

It's almost true. I pick up new words very easily. A goal scored past me whilst playing table football "K.blimey Joe!" A heated work arguement: "Of course it's bloody libelous, you're just acting like a cockfarmer." (This actually cooled things down. "Did you just call me a 'cockfarmer' Anna?" "Um, yes, sorry." "What a great insult, I'm going to start using that.")

A side issue: I was reading a book where one ofthe characters was called Ellie. I was convinced the character's last name was Planchet, it actually turned out to be something else entirely.

Anna, Sunday, 18 August 2002 13:33 (twenty-two years ago)

"funny in principle" = brill

nabisco (nabisco), Sunday, 18 August 2002 15:42 (twenty-two years ago)

four months pass...
So has no-one else noticed the Las Vegas temple to LuXoR? (not at all relevant, but I have to get that joke out of my head).

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 8 January 2003 17:19 (twenty-two years ago)

I made a LuXor joke once, but nobody liked it.

Tim (Tim), Wednesday, 8 January 2003 17:38 (twenty-two years ago)

including the archive machine.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 8 January 2003 17:44 (twenty-two years ago)

The other day, somebody said something funny and I said out loud "LOL". Geez I couldn't get any dorkier.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 8 January 2003 17:44 (twenty-two years ago)

LOLOL

Alan (Alan), Wednesday, 8 January 2003 17:45 (twenty-two years ago)

I find inappropriate jokes about Egypt come at the worst times.

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 8 January 2003 17:52 (twenty-two years ago)

(having phone convo with friend and ILX lurker)

Me: "haha, (something I don't remember anymore) to conversation!"

Him: "dude, ILX has so influenced you."

(this convo also included talk about Killing Joke, rockism, as well as him checking out that "answer a picture with a picture" thread; also, some whining on how hard it is to get a grasp on all the diferent regulars, especially when they all share names, followed by much fear at realisation that we had reached whole new levels of geekyness. Then we went back to talking about The Onion and how anime is useless, and all was right with the world again.)

Daniel_Rf (Daniel_Rf), Thursday, 9 January 2003 02:25 (twenty-two years ago)

how do you pronounce LOL? Is it like "loll" or with letters, "el oh el"?

That Girl (thatgirl), Thursday, 9 January 2003 02:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Probably like Lol Tolhurst.

Nicole (Nicole), Thursday, 9 January 2003 02:36 (twenty-two years ago)

In which case it would be very drunkenly pronounced.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 9 January 2003 02:40 (twenty-two years ago)

the other day i sighed "aww this thread is boring" at something. i managed to get away with being poetic uhh tapestry of life?, but they look at me funnier now they do

zemko (bob), Thursday, 9 January 2003 12:28 (twenty-two years ago)

minna (minna), Thursday, 9 January 2003 12:56 (twenty-two years ago)
