CommonWealth Song Contest

I should say first of all that this is the inspired idea of (and copyright to) Tim Hopkins. He pointed out that it would be better than the Commonwealth Games or the Eurovision Song Contest. So who are the contenders? There are 54 members of the Commonwealth. Obviously the UK would be a contender every year, Jamaica would be winning a medal of some kind every time, but who else? India, if we can find judges who don't only like Western music. Several strong African countries, particularly Zimbabwe, Zambia and South Africa, plus lots of strong small Caribbean nations - Trinidad & Tobago, but I think the fanciable dark horses might be Barbados, as they make lovely soca music and take their annual contests (Cropover, sometime soon now, is huge) very seriously indeed. Who else? Are Nauru or Kiribati major musical nations?

is this some ploy to lure us back into the Commonwealth so we can WHUP YOUR ASS in the song contest?

big problem - if you do the phone in voting thing, countries which are awake at the same time as the host country have a massive unfair advantage.

no wait... not an unfair advantage, but an unfair influence.

Er yeah I wasn't thinking it could be exactly like the Eurovision SC, for reasons of time and expense. But I was watching the Commonwealth Games with not much interest and thinking how much greater it would be if I could hear some of the music made in these places rather than watch their triple jumpers...

Also, never mind Ireland, I want the USA to join the Commonwealth.

Grenada all the way. An amazing calypso nation, and that amazing "big drum" music.

oops sorry Mark. Danger then.
