this is kinda tough to answer because a) i cover concerts for work but definitely consider that 'going out' and b) i'm kinda transitioning into doing that less often where usually it'd be once a week but now it's less often. i guess i'll say once a week.

some dude, Thursday, 17 March 2011 03:33 (fourteen years ago)

does going places w/ sig other count? if so, like 4. if not, like once a month maybe.

iatee, Thursday, 17 March 2011 03:37 (fourteen years ago)

yah of course going out w/your partner counts

iatee, Thursday, 17 March 2011 03:45 (fourteen years ago)

"went out" five nights in a row last week, but three of these I went out straight from work, and the fourth I only went home because my house is between work and the theatre, and left before 8, and the fifth was a gig fifteen minutes walk away and I was home by midnight, having been out for five hours during the day already, so: 0

i used to go to pub quiz a lot but then one of the guys i went to pub quiz with dated one of the girls i went to pub quiz with and then had this horrifically messy breakup in which i think but am not sure there may have been an abortion involved, and then everyone stopped going to pub quiz.

I'm loathe to consider a solo trip to the grocer and/or pharmacy to be "going out", so I only included outgoing activities that include at least one other person. 5 days for me this week - Mon (health club), Wed (taking out friend for b-day party), Fri/Sat/Sun (leaving home for a visit). Staying @home is depressing, I'd rather be anywhere else.

Four or five, though that makes me life sound more exciting than it is. I may well be at the cinema on my own. Watch films more than I watch TV.

Alba, Thursday, 17 March 2011 07:54 (fourteen years ago)

does going to the health club really count though? In terms of the spirit of the thread? I didn't count going grocery shopping/practicing at practice space/running dumb errands -- only like the social going out.

sarahel, Thursday, 17 March 2011 07:57 (fourteen years ago)

varies so much between like 1-5 i guess. depends what's going on and how much work i have on. i haven't ~gone out~ since fri but i'll be ~going out for the next 3, maybe 4 nights. friday friday getting down on friday

Can't separate "going out" from work. Go to 2/3 gigs a week for work, and after that I have very little desire to go out for any other reason.

Alan Partridge Project (ithappens), Thursday, 17 March 2011 09:59 (fourteen years ago)

I don't go out at all anymore. Lol. Zero gigs. Once I think it was a couple of times a week. Then I married, had children and settled down. hihi

Nathalie (stevienixed), Thursday, 17 March 2011 10:37 (fourteen years ago)

Two, I usually try to get in one gig or club night in, and get another night out for a dinner and trip to the pub. I'm not always successful in this, although in the week after I get paid I can find myself out four or five nights in a row if I'm lucky.

What nights do people go out on? Most of my friends don't work a Mon-Fri 9-5 so the weekend never really means that much to us.

o0o00h really? (boxedjoy), Thursday, 17 March 2011 11:38 (fourteen years ago)

Haha, once a month possibly. It's a bit harder with a toddler to get out.

Two on average, sometimes three. Until a few years ago four.

Rich Lolwry (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 17 March 2011 12:18 (fourteen years ago)

3 or 4 average.tho sometimes as little as once.

tending tropics (jim in glasgow), Thursday, 17 March 2011 13:00 (fourteen years ago)

I'll say two. Pretty much always once on the weekend, and then either a weeknight or another weekend night. Sometimes both.

This week, for instance:
1. Went out Tuesday for pub quiz.
2. Going out Saturday for my brother's girlfriend's birthday.

Might do something with my girlfriend tomorrow night, but we haven't decided on anything yet, which means that we'll probably just stay in.

Although lately I have been going to the gym and to yoga and tai-chi classes some weeknight evenings, so I feel like my evenings are often full, even if I'm not doing fun/social things.

Joseph Beuys II Men (jaymc), Thursday, 17 March 2011 13:15 (fourteen years ago)

One. Maybe two.

ENBB, Thursday, 17 March 2011 13:23 (fourteen years ago)

^^basically the same. should get out more but most my friends live in other places atm, so it's more of a hassle to get together.

sonderangerbot, Thursday, 17 March 2011 13:30 (fourteen years ago)

^^^ Me three. On average, anyway.

Ian Curtis danced like a tortured chicken DO U SEE (Phil D.), Thursday, 17 March 2011 13:31 (fourteen years ago)

Gonna vote 1 since I can't bring myself to vote 0, even though the answer is probably like 0.1.

Most of what little "going out" happens is either for meals and finishes in under 3h or starts right after work and finishes by 9pm or so, and neither scenario fits the rules of the thread.

dimension hatris (a passing spacecadet), Thursday, 17 March 2011 13:32 (fourteen years ago)

last night we travelled 300kms so my gf's friend could steal a street-sign which bore his gf's name, that's gotta count right

Have always wanted someone to do this for me. Even suggested it to an ex as we were PASSING said sign. No joy.

Joseph Beuys II Men (jaymc), Thursday, 17 March 2011 13:36 (fourteen years ago)

3, probably, on average. Tends to swing wildly between 0-1 ('oh god not another night in i am so bored') and 6-7 ('jesus can i not get a quiet night in just for once').

probably directly attributable to three things:

1) living somewhere without a car where it's much easier to get to stuff if you have one
2) having less friends here
3) just generally wanting to stay in and cook and watch tv instead of blowing paycheck on booze

I just realized that I haven't really gone out in what, in two days, will be 2 months. :(

I will certainly ramify this as of April 2nd, but even still, I feel like this is the longest I've gone without going out since I started going out in the first place.

EDB, Friday, 18 March 2011 00:14 (fourteen years ago)

Also for reference, I am a 22 year old student with loads of disposable income and no serious obligations that would prevent me from going out. In spite of that though, I am very much a 75 year old man at heart.

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

System, Wednesday, 23 March 2011 00:01 (fourteen years ago)

While it's not exactly zero, it's close enough when you average it out, and infrequent enough that every time I do I barely have time to get over the nervous awkwardness and actually have any fun. Going out tomorrow night for the most low-pressure activity imaginable (a "reading party," in which a bunch of strangers sit around and read and, in my case, drink until they're no longer able to spell "social anxiety," or you know read) and I'm probably still going to fuck it up.

Rich Lolwry (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 24 March 2011 01:33 (fourteen years ago)

If I am going out post 8pm it'll def involve drinking/red bull/jenkem so I try my best to avoid anything on weekdays. Getting to sleep when getting home at 3am is an impossibility.

That said, dunno if this is like industry-standard amongst colleges, but of the 2 I've been to the week ends on a Thursday.. meaning I p much have Th. night, Fri night, Sat night for conquests. So I guess 2-3/wk.

some dude, Thursday, 24 March 2011 02:11 (fourteen years ago)

(hey me again)

my old roommate, who was a p popular dude, went out at least 5x/wk. if it wasn't a concert or rave, somebody just invited him to go ~get high~ w/ them. that said, i didn't really envy him b/c it never seem like he accomplished much every time he came back. wasted $30 on booze and didn't score a bit. i guess regulating everything on the scale of "score: y/n" seems a bit shallow, but i really try to make the absolute most of the few times i actually do go out. quality over quantity? iono.

Radical Adults Lick Based God Style (kelpolaris), Thursday, 24 March 2011 02:11 (fourteen years ago)

i wonder if there's some correlation between the results of this thread and the recent 'how old are you' thread -- would imagine the large number of 30ish people compared to 20ish people is similar to how many people go out 1-2 nights a week vs. 4-7 nights a week

some dude, Thursday, 24 March 2011 02:13 (fourteen years ago)

ha i wonder how many people define "going out" as just going to someone else's place and watching TV and getting high or whatever they'd be doing in their own home

some dude, Thursday, 24 March 2011 02:13 (fourteen years ago)

hanging out w/ friends at their place isnt really that different from hanging out w/ the same friends @ a bar or w/e really

i do think the age thing is a factor, thats part of the reason i wanted to poll this on ilx since i know it skews slightly older i guess i just figured for ppl in the 30s/40s w/ jobs/kids/'real lives' that 2 or 3 times a week was the 'norm'

♞/♘ (Lamp), Thursday, 24 March 2011 02:18 (fourteen years ago)

The reading party sucked as expected. Sat alone, reread V. for a couple of hours, didn't buy any drinks because I'm overdrawn til payday, got a water and immediately felt guilty because I wasn't going to be spending any money; noticed that pretty much everyone had stopped reading and coalesced over at one end of the place without bothering to gather the new guy. Took that as my cue to leave, and on my way out knocked over my glass with my headphone cord. But it didn't break! AWESOME

I don't know why I fucking bother anymore.

I'm heading for my mid-30s and I love to go out! Rrrrobyn otm! And even going to someone's apt to hang out and watch tv can qualify as "going out" if it takes you 30mins to an hour to get there, and the same to get home. Travel time kills me way more than actual socialization.
