I wouldn't be totally surprised as I am the only person I know who orders them but then again I don't get into do you like this kind of bagel y/n discussions v. often & haven't made a habit of asking ppl if they think salt bagels are gross

what does a salt bagel even entail - I am just imagining a giant salt crystal, grown in a lab, in the shape of a bagel

salt bagel - it's a concept - and a feeling - just a chill vibe that people can share together - or just trip out on by themselves - kind of a salty feeling that makes us all remember - we are children of the universe and we are special

man this thread gives me depressing memories, because my parents love bagels but they also love saving money, so our house would always be stocked with shoprite frozen bagels, more like frozen nagls

oh man I have never heard of lenders bagels, but apparently they are a frozen bagel innovator? I wonder if shoprite bagels are just rebranded lenders bagels

i said this on an old rrrobyn thread already, but a true Everything bagel should be identical to the universe, and its hole should be absolutely terrifying.

hey cory. did gr8080 call you a bunch of times to say aloha when you asked people to leave voicemails for you?

gr8080, i want to go to that one too. i love sleek modern building to an irrational degree.

also, bagels. we went to vancouver last weekend but somehow couldn't find a convenient tim horton's at which to buy pretzel bagels; they are shockingly good.

To celebrate with their sales reps, Murray and Marvin Lender, two of Harry’s sons, walked Len, an eight-foot-tall Lender’s bagel, down the aisle to meet Phyl, his Kraft Philadelphia cream cheese bride.

I was in SF recently and while I didn't bother looking for a good bagel the Burmese food is the best I've had in the states, so keep ya head up

usic ally (k3vin k.), Thursday, 23 July 2015 22:47 (ten years ago)

most of the food here is more awesome than food elsewhere in the country, with bagels being one of the most glaring exceptions

sarahell, Thursday, 23 July 2015 22:48 (ten years ago)

no argument!

Οὖτις, Thursday, 23 July 2015 23:17 (ten years ago)

I am so sad when I go to other states and witness the appalling state of vegetables served etc.

Οὖτις, Thursday, 23 July 2015 23:18 (ten years ago)

the summer I lived in the midwest, that was very true, apart from the corn and tomatoes. but for a lot of my youth, i grew up in a literal farm-to-table household so i just didn't understand why people bought canned and frozen fruit and vegetables.

sarahell, Thursday, 23 July 2015 23:40 (ten years ago)

shakey we went to burma superstar on clement. my gf's parents are from burma, and i lived on the burmese border for a few months, so we had high expectations but the place was pretty great

usic ally (k3vin k.), Thursday, 23 July 2015 23:42 (ten years ago)

Yeah that place is good, no idea how "authentic" it is

Οὖτις, Thursday, 23 July 2015 23:44 (ten years ago)

burma superstar is really good! after years of assuming it was just another over-rated place for white ppl, i actually ate there, (the one in Oakland). I've also had cheaper burmese food in East Oakland that was just as good, but that doesn't make burma superstar less good. Just higher overhead.

sarahell, Thursday, 23 July 2015 23:45 (ten years ago)

there are definitely some white ppl "fusion" items on the menu, but they mark the authentic cuisine so you can seek those out if you want them. we ordered a bunch of the authentic items and it was pretty comparable to what we'd had in that part of the world

i was a little surprised that they gave everyone chopsticks tho because generally burmese people don't use chopsticks, except maybe for noodle dishes

usic ally (k3vin k.), Thursday, 23 July 2015 23:57 (ten years ago)

yah 540 club is a good dive too. all in all an a+ block in sf imo.

chaki (kurt schwitterz), Friday, 24 July 2015 20:14 (ten years ago)

I will only give that block an A+ if the Rockit Room is gone

Οὖτις, Friday, 24 July 2015 20:15 (ten years ago)

is that the Quickly that that SF Supervisor got prosecuted for?

sarahell, Friday, 24 July 2015 20:25 (ten years ago)

like sub-Russian mafia guys with bluetooth earpieces that act like they're running some hotshit top dollar nightclub.

I put my unfinished beer down on a table to go onstage and soundcheck, when I get offstage a couple minutes later my beer has been "bussed" - "oh that was the last of your drink tickets? another beer will be $8" We were also told that no one who was not in the band (ie our friends, significant others) was allowed in the "green room" area.

They just treat the performers like shit.

xp

Οὖτις, Friday, 24 July 2015 21:13 (ten years ago)

what is a sub-Russian? Ukrainian? Georgian?

sarahell, Friday, 24 July 2015 21:14 (ten years ago)

haha perhaps confusing my ethnic signifiers there - I meant guys that act/look like they're in the Russian mafia (maybe they are, who knows)
