At 12 noon today we'll be stopping the 'post new question' format on I Love Everything and the boards will move from www.greenspun.com to www.ilxor.com.

Sorry that was gibberish - "the 'post new question' format" should read "the 'ask a question' function". Anyway no new questions here as of tomorrow noon.

Will we be able to post new questions straight away? And who is going to join me in the mad scramble to post the last question on Planet Greenspun?

I think the 'post a question' function on ilxor should be turned back on as soon as Graham can do this.

I cant go through 12ft lizard channels today cos of browser arsery at work.

I was planning on passwording the whole thing while we download the message archive. Is this OK?

I'll be batch posting "We've moved, this thread continues here ect" posts to every thread on the new answers page (can't do every thread at once because they'll end up on the new answers page ahem).

Graham, Friday, 16 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah - can you password it at around 12 noon? Make the password the same as the admin one so I can post the 'closedown' thread if it's not been done before?

Tom, Friday, 16 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

old-ilx I mean. I'll probably unlock Ask a question on nu-ilx last thing tonight and unlock all the old threads when this week's messages have been posted.

Graham, Friday, 16 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah I meant old-ILX. Ideally we want there to be no time when this bunch of junkies our valued users cannot post.

Tom, Friday, 16 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

graham 12 noon bst or thereabouts is fine for me but can you re-email with the instructions including what tom is doing so i don't get in among him by mistake?

mark s, Friday, 16 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

i think the final downloads will take abt 40 mins max per board? (guesswork: but the initial connection takes20-25 mins irrespective of size of thing downloaded afaics)

mark s, Friday, 16 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

I abused my admin priveleges again.

Graham, Friday, 16 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

hmm. i gotit! the initial connect takes forevah b/c the backend compiles the whole file before sending it on, which seems v. inefficient. why oh why didn't i get this earler?
