First Liz dies, now this -- what a stupid day.

goddammit, this means my Happiest Baby On The Block script is sunk!

I was really hoping this was some type of extended "mountain out of a molehill"-type idiom

ancient, but very sexy (DJP), Wednesday, 23 March 2011 18:38 (fourteen years ago)

Ugh, this book. Someone gave it to me when I was pregnant, and it was filled with some of the most wtf advice. Granted it was an older edition of the book, but it was filled with advice like "don't drink heavily when you are pregnant" (duh) and also some really sexist information. Maybe the newer editions are not as awful, but I can't see making a movie out of it.

its still the same crapola nicole.

we have these books, and found them to be ok as a reference. what's the sexist stuff? i haven't really read it cover to cover.

My wife has been reading this and wasn't really bothered about it until she bought me an "expectant father" book that went into finances, costs, and savings stuff; then she was, rightfully, super pissed that none of the books aimed at women even delve into that side of things. As if to say, "just take care of your body honey, the money is the man's worry".

I don't think they actually are, they're just buying the name recognition associated with the title.

i kind of find the woman on the cover a little bit creepy looking

It's been a while so I don't remember much of it, but there was just a lot of assumptions about the expectant mother being in a hetero marriage and having to rely on her husband for support. I think the one I had was late 80s/early 90s.

Peyton Flanders (Nicole), Wednesday, 23 March 2011 19:09 (fourteen years ago)

we have an early 90's edition of the toddler book and it's really dated in regards to gender roles and attitudes

in my exp women read obsess on "what to expect" while they're pregnant & then instantly forget all about it once the baby's delivered.
