he's pretty good in the Anthony Mann noir Side Street which has some great NYC location footage circa 1950

from a towleroad commenter:
In his memoir "Include Me Out" Granger writes abot that film in great detail, including dishy details about Franco Zefferelli's hysterical jealousy. Visconti was breaking up with Zefferelli at the time and Zefferelli was convinced that Visconti had tossed him aside for Granger. Granger says this was in no way true. He does however offer cionsiderable insight into Visconti's working methods.
He also says Leonard Bernstein was teriffic in bed.
Arthur Laurents in his memoir "Original Story By" recalls his affair with Granger quite differently than Granger does, needless to say. Granger was the inspiration for Robert Redford's charactewr in "The Wa We Were." (Babs, needless to say, was Arthur.)

Goodbye you beautiful thing.
And let's not forget his turn in Vincente Minnelli's segment of the underappreciated The Story of Three Loves (recently out on WB Archive) where Ricky Nelson becomes Granger (!).

Rest well. "They Live By Night" is a stone classic. As is "Side Street".

"Cat and the mouse cat and the mouse...."
RIP. I first heard of him in a Judy Blume book (one of the "Fudge" ones).

Oh yeah! And Small Town Girl! Not exactly a Farley showcase (despite playing the lead) but Bobby Van's hopping extravaganza remains one of the most exuberant classical Hollywood musical numbers I've ever seen.
