President Keyes, Thursday, 31 March 2011 22:17 (fourteen years ago)

You Look Nice Today is the only one of these I listen to, and I like it a lot, so YLNT

markers, Thursday, 31 March 2011 22:25 (fourteen years ago)

WTF is the best, CDR is the funniest, Best Show Gems gets lifetime achievement.

Neo Tony (sic), Thursday, 31 March 2011 22:44 (fourteen years ago)

WTF for all tiiiiiiime

VegemiteGrrl, Thursday, 31 March 2011 23:19 (fourteen years ago)

my second : Bugle
my third fave: Walking The Room for disgusting lols

VegemiteGrrl, Thursday, 31 March 2011 23:21 (fourteen years ago)

I like a lot of these but anything other than the Bugle seems crazy.

President Keyes, Friday, 1 April 2011 13:17 (fourteen years ago)

ℳℴℯ ❤\(◕‿◕✿ (Princess TamTam), Friday, 1 April 2011 13:25 (fourteen years ago)

if this was 2 months ago id say maron in a heartbeat but im a bit burnt out on it tbh

am probably enjoying doug loves movies & never not funny the most right now, also like comedy & everything else

lots of these ive never listened to tho

johnny crunch, Friday, 1 April 2011 13:30 (fourteen years ago)

I've tried to listen to a lot of these but they usually front load the shows with endorsements and babble so I give up.

President Keyes, Friday, 1 April 2011 14:52 (fourteen years ago)

WTF is good but I like listening to Doug Loves Movies more because I'm a dork and like to play along with the Leonard Maltin game. Last year Grady posted a bunch of uh yeah dude clips and I spent a couple days watching/listening to everything I could find by those guys and loving it but then totally forgot about them.

ENBB, Friday, 1 April 2011 14:56 (fourteen years ago)

cosign w Keyes. just because you CAN make a podcast endless doesn't mean you should.

strongly recommend. unless you're a bitch (mayor jingleberries), Friday, 1 April 2011 15:01 (fourteen years ago)

Voted Bugle. I love WTF but can't bring myself to voted Maron. Underrated: Keith & The Girl but its daily and who the fuck has the time to listen to an hour a day?

Nult AGL (a hoy hoy), Friday, 1 April 2011 15:05 (fourteen years ago)

i listen to music

i don't remember if i responded to this the last time you and some dude said you don't listen to podcasts, but podcasts are really designed for people who commute to work, and i assume that you guys aren't really commuting anywhere

congratulations (n/a), Friday, 1 April 2011 15:10 (fourteen years ago)

"i listen to music" vs "i have a real job"

adult music person (Jordan), Friday, 1 April 2011 15:16 (fourteen years ago)

I don't listen to a lot of podcasts on my commute, b/c it takes away from reading time, but I do listen to them at the gym.

jaymc, Friday, 1 April 2011 15:27 (fourteen years ago)

Been listening to the Best Show for a couple of months but it's finally sunk in and it is the most hilarious thing I'm currently regularly tuning into.

James Mitchell, Friday, 1 April 2011 15:32 (fourteen years ago)

Mouse wearing a cape, etc.

James Mitchell, Friday, 1 April 2011 15:33 (fourteen years ago)

the jon wurster calls are brilliant

President Keyes, Friday, 1 April 2011 15:36 (fourteen years ago)

The one where he comes into the studio as the bandmate of "Buzz" Obama and tells all the former presidents' secrets for about 45 minutes was absolutely relentless.

James Mitchell, Friday, 1 April 2011 16:32 (fourteen years ago)

I enjoy Best Show a lot...maybe that's my #4 favorite.

VegemiteGrrl, Friday, 1 April 2011 17:17 (fourteen years ago)

Of these I listen to:
The Bugle (definitely the one I will be voting for)
Judge John Hodgman (about to give up on this, the funny moments don't make up for the absolute smugness of the callers)
SModcast (very hit or miss, but I'm not getting into more Kevin Smith arguments on the internet)
Best Show Gems (love this, plan to start listening to the full show, but its hard for me commit that much time to podcast listening in one go)

'what are you, the Hymen Protection League of America?' (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Friday, 1 April 2011 17:23 (fourteen years ago)

Can someone make maybe a compilation of representative bits from each of these podcasts -- kind of like academy award screeners, but maybe 2-5 minutes long each? One thing I've always hated about polls is the lack of handicapping for the less popular choices, and it'd be great to hear a sampler anyway.

Philip Nunez, Friday, 1 April 2011 17:34 (fourteen years ago)

Lesser known ones worth checking out--

Thrilling Adventure Hour (old time radio parody with revolving cast--Paul F. Tompkins, Aubrey Plaza, etc.)
Superego (scripted sketch comedy)
Mike Detective (Rob Huebel and others--written by Scott Aukerman)

President Keyes, Friday, 1 April 2011 17:35 (fourteen years ago)

Could you make some excerpts of those?

Philip Nunez, Friday, 1 April 2011 17:41 (fourteen years ago)

Are you serious? Just download one and listen.

ℳℴℯ ❤\(◕‿◕✿ (Princess TamTam), Friday, 1 April 2011 17:45 (fourteen years ago)

Unfortunately with a lot of these it would be really tough to gauge through just 2-5 minutes. I mean, a lot of the best stuff from Best Show require lots of context to really hit home with the humor.

'what are you, the Hymen Protection League of America?' (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Friday, 1 April 2011 17:46 (fourteen years ago)

The Mike Detective episodes are only 5 minutes apiece anyway

President Keyes, Friday, 1 April 2011 17:48 (fourteen years ago)

Some of these I separate from straight comedy shows. Like, WTF and Nerdist or even NNF are far more about the interaction/conversation with the guest, as opposed to stuff like Sklarbros or CDR or DLM which is built on bits.

And then you have shows like UYD or Bill Burr or even Greg Fitzsimmons where it's just the guy and maybe a buddy talking directly at you, emptying their head.

Crazed Mister Handy (kingfish), Friday, 1 April 2011 18:04 (fourteen years ago)

"lot of the best stuff from Best Show require lots of context to really hit home with the humor."

i've listened to hours of this and i'm thinking a fan who has listened to far more hours could figure out which select five minutes could do a better job of selling it than the hours I listened to.

also downloading each individual podcast, even if they are only 5 minutes long themselves, is actually too much to ask of anyone. for example, how many people here have heard every one of the poll choices?

Philip Nunez, Friday, 1 April 2011 18:18 (fourteen years ago)

go listen to music

jeff, Friday, 1 April 2011 18:19 (fourteen years ago)

A lot of these podcasts have "Best of 2010" or whatever episodes so those may be good starting points.

President Keyes, Friday, 1 April 2011 18:20 (fourteen years ago)

also downloading each individual podcast, even if they are only 5 minutes long themselves, is actually too much to ask of anyone.

This is just a poll on ILE you know.

President Keyes, Friday, 1 April 2011 18:21 (fourteen years ago)

this poll still matters more than the comedy grammys

Philip Nunez, Friday, 1 April 2011 18:22 (fourteen years ago)

Phillip: I listen to a few podcasts, I have by no means listened to all of the podcasts listed here but know of most of them, have tried listening to quite a few of them and given up, but I feel okay in voting for WTF as my favorite.

It's not an SAT. No-one's going to ask you to write 500 words on what you know about each one of them. Relax :)

VegemiteGrrl, Friday, 1 April 2011 18:23 (fourteen years ago)

(unless I missed the essay portion of this poll in which case I'm totally screwed)

VegemiteGrrl, Friday, 1 April 2011 18:24 (fourteen years ago)

haha i wish there was an exam portion. if you haven't heard some threshold number of different podcasts, and you end up voting for the most popular ones, the vote should be weighted less, because those guys have an unfair advantage. like that weird canadian rule that forces music videos to be 50% canadian.

Philip Nunez, Friday, 1 April 2011 18:30 (fourteen years ago)

I fear there's no saving you from yourself, Philip

VegemiteGrrl, Friday, 1 April 2011 18:31 (fourteen years ago)

how about this, I'll put together a sampler of the ones I'm familiar with (which are unfortunately the most popular ones) and we can collectively add more until there's a full set?

Philip Nunez, Friday, 1 April 2011 18:31 (fourteen years ago)

OK I just made some to start off:
http://www.sendspace.com/file/gzj74d

Excerpts from:
The Best Show (Tom vs. Rick from Poster Children)
WTF (Maron vs Tom from Best Show)

Philip Nunez, Friday, 1 April 2011 21:26 (fourteen years ago)

The one where he comes into the studio as the bandmate of "Buzz" Obama and tells all the former presidents' secrets for about 45 minutes was absolutely relentless.

yes, this was amazing, such a different vibe when Wurster's in the studio instead of on the phone

Neo Tony (sic), Friday, 1 April 2011 23:15 (fourteen years ago)

a few others that I enjoy from time to time:

Am I Right
The Biggest Mistake
Eardrop
Totally Laime Podcast
Pop My Culture

jeff, Friday, 1 April 2011 23:33 (fourteen years ago)

http://www.sendspace.com/file/comdez

another "best-of" podcasts pack:
-the best joke from this one mike detective podcast I downloaded (there is probably a better joke, but this is the only episode I heard)
-jesse thorn asks ian mackaye about todd barry's fugazi joke (I spliced in todd barry's fugazi joke in place of jesse's paraphrasing)
-terry gross fights gene simmons
-al franken tells terry gross his gene simmons tennis story

ENBB, Thursday, 7 April 2011 00:30 (fourteen years ago)

My faves are basically:

1. The Bugle
2. Comedy Death Ray
3. The Pod F. Tompkast
4. The Best Show Gems
5. Mike Detective
6. Superego
7. Thrilling Adventure Hour
8. WTF

Who were the 3 votes for Adam Corolla?

President Keyes, Thursday, 7 April 2011 00:43 (fourteen years ago)

Dave Matthews Band of comedy

President Keyes, Thursday, 7 April 2011 00:44 (fourteen years ago)

jeff, Thursday, 7 April 2011 22:46 (fourteen years ago)

Yeah, I've been listening through the Comedy Death Ray catalog this week--Jesus Christ: Bob Ducca, Don Dimelo, the I-Brain story, Marisa Wompler, Jesse Ventura, Bill Cosby Bukowski, Huell Howser, Ice-T. Amazing.

President Keyes, Friday, 8 April 2011 01:20 (fourteen years ago)

Listened to a bunch of Comedy Death Ray yesterday while driving home from work. Oh my god. I was laughing so hard that I probably should have pulled over.

the best reggae summer club there used to be in Helsinki (kkvgz), Friday, 8 April 2011 15:03 (fourteen years ago)

I like the WTF interviews, but it's the episodes I've heard have not been overbearingly chucklicious, and if they were, it was the guests who made them that way, not Maron.

the best reggae summer club there used to be in Helsinki (kkvgz), Friday, 8 April 2011 15:18 (fourteen years ago)

WTF isn't very funny ime. I mean, that's okay, it's not why I listen to it, but there are definitely funnier podcasts out there.

cum dude (Princess TamTam), Friday, 8 April 2011 15:41 (fourteen years ago)

it's definite a podcast about comedy, not a comedy podcast

listened to a little bit of doug loves movies yesterday, it was amusing but didn't seem that special

congratulations (n/a), Friday, 8 April 2011 15:44 (fourteen years ago)

the live WTFs are funnier, if that's what you're looking for

congratulations (n/a), Friday, 8 April 2011 15:44 (fourteen years ago)

I didn't vote on this poll at all. I stopped listening to Carolla months ago when he shifted formats away from the interviews, which were far more compelling than adapted morning zoo shows.

I think it was his show with Adam Curry last year which I was finally fed up with him. You had on a guy who Adam could have easily gotten 90-120 mins of interesting, compelling stuff out of(shared history and whatnot), and they talked for 20 minutes before moving to another bit.

Crazed Mister Handy (kingfish), Friday, 8 April 2011 15:53 (fourteen years ago)
