more than six.

Mordy, Saturday, 2 April 2011 15:17 (fourteen years ago)

i had more than six, but i lost one or two along the way, so now i just have five, but maybe more are hiding out in the closets?? some of them were freebies with conferences or with products. a couple of them were purchased, like my arty high-colour silhouettes Strand bookstore bag and the teal one i got at target in long island once because it has a neat photo of a bike on an nyc street on it. right now my fave tote is the academy records one :)

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Saturday, 2 April 2011 15:20 (fourteen years ago)

i think like half of ours are fairway/trader joes bags

Mordy, Saturday, 2 April 2011 15:21 (fourteen years ago)

i have a great one from the 2005 Cdn federati0n for the humanities and s0cial sciences congress that perfectly fits a box of arm&hammer cat litter and then still fits over my shoulder. i also love my tofino co-op bag bc it is from my mom and bc it's just black with white letters.

oh i forgot 'zero'! i'm sorry

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Saturday, 2 April 2011 15:27 (fourteen years ago)

you should probably go find a tote bag so you can vote in this poll

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Saturday, 2 April 2011 15:28 (fourteen years ago)

B-b-but then this poll would be encouraging consumerism!

did you notice "you spin me round" was playing in the background? (snoball), Saturday, 2 April 2011 15:32 (fourteen years ago)

I think on the contrary. We only own bags so that we don't waste plastic when we go to the supermarket

Mordy, Saturday, 2 April 2011 15:33 (fourteen years ago)

Actually I just realised that I have a couple of those 'free supermarket bag for life' things.

did you notice "you spin me round" was playing in the background? (snoball), Saturday, 2 April 2011 15:33 (fourteen years ago)

xp If you never bought anything, you'd never need a bag

Mordy, Saturday, 2 April 2011 15:40 (fourteen years ago)

I have a special place in my heart for muslin tote bags and have finally trained myself to use them for lugging my shopping back home. Amongst them, I've got:

Gucci pop-up store tote, YSL tote, black tote from MODERN ART gallery given out at Frieze Art Fair, Frieze Art Fair tote, Hackney recycling tote, 50% Normal/50% Designer tote, hot pink support-local-shops Lamb's Conduit Street tote...

Since I fucking LOATHE the cult of the handbag, I love to take them out to openings and parties instead of a massive fucking ladypurse. Bonus: apart from the local bag, all were lovely freebies and they beat the hell out of promo t-shirts.

nights of d. cameron (suzy), Saturday, 2 April 2011 15:41 (fourteen years ago)

have a couple from the chicago library, one from stanley's (produce store in town), one from IGA that was a leftover from another roommate, and another I don't know where from.

corey, Saturday, 2 April 2011 15:45 (fourteen years ago)

totes! i was a band/promo t-shirt girl in my 20s but now i'm a tote girl with more refined fashion sense (lolll)
oh i forgot about the rad day-glo orange promo one from the canadian centre for architecture!

tehresa, Sunday, 3 April 2011 04:31 (fourteen years ago)

Let's see, a cool one from Drawn Quarterly, a Food Bank bag, one of those standard green eco totes, two from trader joes and two from this synagogue where my wife briefly worked so I guess that'd be more than six.

I have like 1000 tote bags because
1) I am a teacher/professor/instructor of people
2) I like to have a bag for every occasion (big grocery run, small grocery run, coupla folders, books/folders, records, records and folders, records/snacks/folders, etc)
3) Not only am I a teacher, I have different bags for office days and teaching days, so
4) I am the sort of person who likes to have all things on hand at all times, so I always have a stapler AND extra staples...in my tote bag

Lots and lots of tote bags

Ralpharina (La Lechera), Sunday, 3 April 2011 04:45 (fourteen years ago)

My favorite is my Boxcar Children grocery bag or my orange Poetry Month bag with the unicorn on it

Ralpharina (La Lechera), Sunday, 3 April 2011 04:47 (fourteen years ago)

I forgot that I also have this tote of an "evil cupcake" that I won in a trivia contest. I keep my current knitting projects in it.

Publicidad de Sexo (Abbbottt), Sunday, 3 April 2011 06:03 (fourteen years ago)

Boxcar Children grocery bag

boxcar children as in the poor orphans who lived in a boxcar and scavenged at the dump for tin cups to drink out of and kept their milk refrigerated behind a rock down by the creek? because if so i want one.

major fashion inspiration (reddening), Sunday, 3 April 2011 06:39 (fourteen years ago)

I have a London 2012 tote bag I keep meaning to sell on eBay.

James Mitchell, Sunday, 3 April 2011 06:42 (fourteen years ago)

Loads. My wife hoards them.

lol sickmouthy (Scik Mouthy), Sunday, 3 April 2011 08:29 (fourteen years ago)

I used to have loads, but now I just go the giant handbag route, with some of those sturdy jute bags from Tesco for actual grocery shopping.

trishyb, Sunday, 3 April 2011 09:26 (fourteen years ago)

I have at least five even though I hardly ever use them, which is a bit stupid really. They're mostly quite small - maybe I'd use them more if they were bigger and could hold the excessive amounts of shopping I tend to buy. (Then again, one is a giant sturdy sack-like thing which just slides off my shoulders, so something in between would be nicer.)

Most of them were free or free with purchases over a certain amount, but there were also the times I was at Oxfam buying an armful of books and then realised they don't do plastic bags any more but I could buy a tote, or when I saw Nisennenmondai and bought CDs from the merch desk and was drunk enough to think their shitty overpriced printed tote was a better way to carry them home than using my hands, etc.

dimension hatris (a passing spacecadet), Sunday, 3 April 2011 09:46 (fourteen years ago)

I have more than six, but never remember to take them to the grocery store with me (That's going to change this morning, I swear). I've been using one that I got at a conference as a temporary briefcase/lunch bag and it's pretty embarrassing.

Have a bunch, but don't use them. I need the plastic bags to put cat poop in.
