here is my 'pringles story'

i was doing my first ultramarathon last year, a 37 mile footrace in 85 degree texas weather on a rocky/hilly trail that started at 7pm and went overnight (i finished close to 5-6am). i was close to mile 30, absolutely fucking wiped out and weak and felt like i was gonna die, and sat down at an aid station and this lady goes "you have to go on... you're almost there! here, eat these, they help" and she handed me like 12-15 pringles and i ate them all. perfect runners' food for ultramarathons-- super salty, super carbohydrate packed, high calorie to low mass ratio, and you dont even have to fucking chew them, you just smash them against the roof of your mouth with your tongue and they shatter and you can swallow them. trust me, it sounds stupid but it gets really hard to chew/swallow once your body realizes you've been running for 9 fucking hours and basically shuts down your digestive system to focus on other maintenance. anyway, i ate all the pringles, washed them down with a cup of coca-cola (i havent had soda in about a decade, ever, other than a blanket exception for long trail runs; that shit also works wonders out there), changed socks and shirt, and after about 5 minutes suddenly i felt fucking incredible. got up, shuffled around the trails for another hour and a half at like 5:00am and BOOM-- THIRTY SEVEN FUCKING MILES.

they were original pringles btw, so i voted original.

and i dont normally eat pringles, or soda like i said, but ill eat or drink anything on a run so long as it keeps me moving

Does anyone have any information on why those ones were recalled? Poisonous?

Cheeseburger and "Taco Night" were recalled in March 2010 as a safety precaution after salmonella was found in a Basic Food Flavors plant which produces the "flavor-enhancing hydrolyzed vegetable protein"(?!) used in those flavors.

whaa? i don't recall ever seeing them offered by a LEGITIMATE grocer. maybe a save-a-lot or aldi-type place... mostly i've just seen them at skeevier gas stations, vending machines of seedy motels, severely understocked bodegas that are fronts for drug businesses, that sort of thing. it's not so much that they're downmarket, even...they're just sort of, well, sleazy. compared to something more on the chaste spectrum, y'know, like a ruffle or a pringle... or even a tostito.

I know the class of snack of which you speak, but Bugles are a different scene. I've literally only bought them in Dominick's (Chicago), Stop & Shop (Mass), and Price Chopper (upstate NY), all reputable chain grocery stores. I have seen them in gas stations, but in the massive mini-marts in those stations, not in a vending-machine-in-the-service-bay kind of place.

My defense of Bugles stops, however, at their changeover from box to bag. Too many crushed corn trumpets.

I've since experienced cheese and barbecue. BBQ definitely = smoked cigarettes, cheese are good but more than 5 gives me regret.

their Salt and Vinegar is like chemical warfare, I don't understand why they would do that to a chip. It's like an OTT wasabi sensation, too painful for snackfoods imo. and I usually love vinegar.

Pringles is owned by Procter & Gamble, and thus like every other P&G product must have its logo mucked with every decade or so, always winding up boldfaced, italicized, 3-dimentional, and slanted upwards in a misguided effort to keep the "brand" looking contemporary.
