i like how you have unanswered at the bottom of new answers. i just noticed that the login redirects back to where i was before logging in, i likes. graham, you rule. any chance of making the settings change page redirect back to wherever you were at prior? just noticed that if i hit 'show message extras' while composing a message, i lose the message i've typed, unless i hit "back". this is not a big deal though. to reiterate, you rule.

ron (ron), Wednesday, 7 August 2002 23:50 (twenty-two years ago)

also, if new answers is updating in real time, that is soooo awesome. i really hate how greenspun does it (dunno?) every 5 mins or so.

ron (ron), Wednesday, 7 August 2002 23:52 (twenty-two years ago)

maybe a couple other links would be handy on the success page. like back to new answers (bonus points if it will be a fresh page, with your answer counted as new). and i guess might as well have a link back to other spots too, like boards page, new questions, etc. just ideas...

ron (ron), Wednesday, 7 August 2002 23:55 (twenty-two years ago)

haha ron before you arrived, greenspun sometimes used to "downdate" eg you'd refresh and stuff would disappear for a while!!

mark s (mark s), Thursday, 8 August 2002 00:05 (twenty-two years ago)

The new answers page generates once a minute right now (it can't be regenerated every time you load it cos it's relatively complex to generate, but more to the point 50 people clicking reload every 5 seconds magnifies this enormously).

Show extras essentially reloads the page, which does lose your message - there is a workaround I can do but, erm... I'll think about it. The Success page does link back to boards and new questions (at the top), but new answers would be good too. I'll stop the dead ends in other places as well.

Graham (graham), Thursday, 8 August 2002 00:13 (twenty-two years ago)

ooh, downgrade that doesn's sound too good

ron (ron), Thursday, 8 August 2002 00:22 (twenty-two years ago)

oh, yes i wasn't thinking too clearly, i see those links now. new answers would be nice, but not a huge deal.

yeah, it's not like anybody is going to spend lots of time clicking on 'show extras' - i wouldn't worry about it then.

as for new answers update, one minute is light years better than before, so groovy groovy

thanks graham. i always feel a bit dumb after making suggestions about this :-(

ron (ron), Thursday, 8 August 2002 00:26 (twenty-two years ago)

thank you for making double returns into paragraph breaks, that is very handy

ron (ron), Thursday, 8 August 2002 00:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Random idea: I know lots of you read ILX from shared computers/internet cafes/whatever, and visit here whenever you\'re there - so: Would people like the idea of being able to store bookmarks to whatever other sites they visit every day with their user settings? So when you login you get a list of links, and they\'d also be on the Settings page and maybe at the bottom of the new answers page too?

Would anyone use this?

Graham (graham), Thursday, 8 August 2002 00:27 (twenty-two years ago)

i love how the lycos ads say "this ad will be displayed once a day" when they seem to pop up about once a minute. oh, wait... i don't love it.

Can we run ads just like Popbitch? Everyone loves banner ads, go ON. It was so much better on the lycos site with pop ups and stuff. PLEASE? (NB, I'M BEING SARCASTIC.)

Remember, good people -- the server is in Australia. Where it is now the 14th. :-)

Remember, good people -- the server is in Australia. Where it is now the 14th. :-)
