as maresnest puts the finishing touches on the sc1en0 comp, a new idea is birthed.

pan loco y salsa loca (get bent), Monday, 18 April 2011 19:56 (fourteen years ago)

i might have to take on "e.t."

pan loco y salsa loca (get bent), Monday, 18 April 2011 19:58 (fourteen years ago)

Guideline as to what constitutes a "pop hit"? As in, "it has to have been in the Top 40 between <x date> and <y date>"?

grill 'em bake 'em fry 'em burn 'em (snoball), Monday, 18 April 2011 20:00 (fourteen years ago)

something that's been playing on the radio or been a viral/youtube hit within the past year-ish. all genres considered as long as the song is a "hit."

pan loco y salsa loca (get bent), Monday, 18 April 2011 20:03 (fourteen years ago)

buzzband sensations with npr/starbucks mojo, etc.

pan loco y salsa loca (get bent), Monday, 18 April 2011 20:08 (fourteen years ago)

OK, I would like to do this.

jaymc, Monday, 18 April 2011 20:15 (fourteen years ago)

jaymc maybe we can collabo on something if you're interested, this sounds fun but i am very very out of touch with the pop hits of the day.

congratulations (n/a), Monday, 18 April 2011 20:16 (fourteen years ago)

or you can just tell me which song i should do

congratulations (n/a), Monday, 18 April 2011 20:16 (fourteen years ago)

There's this little song called "Friday" you might be interested in.

That's why they call me (Johnny Fever), Monday, 18 April 2011 20:17 (fourteen years ago)

Hmmm, maybe! I need to think about what kind of cover I would even want to do.

jaymc, Monday, 18 April 2011 20:17 (fourteen years ago)

I was wondering who would be the first to call Friday

bRon To Run (MaresNest), Monday, 18 April 2011 20:18 (fourteen years ago)

nelly had a top 10 hit in 2010?!?!?

congratulations (n/a), Monday, 18 April 2011 20:22 (fourteen years ago)

i had no idea

congratulations (n/a), Monday, 18 April 2011 20:22 (fourteen years ago)

it wasn't very good

fat fat fat fat Usher (DJP), Monday, 18 April 2011 20:24 (fourteen years ago)

i always underestimate how many big hits i know, most of those seem at least superficially familiar

congratulations (n/a), Monday, 18 April 2011 20:27 (fourteen years ago)

There's a lot of overlap with the US charts but anyway:

grill 'em bake 'em fry 'em burn 'em (snoball), Monday, 18 April 2011 20:36 (fourteen years ago)

Right now I am leaning toward a klezmer interpretation of "DJ Got Us Falling in Love."

jaymc, Monday, 18 April 2011 20:39 (fourteen years ago)

you're on your own, buddy

congratulations (n/a), Monday, 18 April 2011 20:41 (fourteen years ago)

I'm calling Rihanna's 'S&M'.

grill 'em bake 'em fry 'em burn 'em (snoball), Monday, 18 April 2011 20:46 (fourteen years ago)

I think if I tried most of these songs I would come off like a poor man's Pomplamoose.

reggaeton for the painfully alone (polyphonic), Monday, 18 April 2011 20:47 (fourteen years ago)

OR those white people who did the "Boyz N the Hood" cover.

Pleasant Plains, Monday, 18 April 2011 20:50 (fourteen years ago)

i'm considering doing this

goole, Monday, 18 April 2011 21:01 (fourteen years ago)

Quick way out of this would be to grab the Amen break off the net, spend 3 mins on Garageband and do a Pendulum cover.

bRon To Run (MaresNest), Monday, 18 April 2011 22:27 (fourteen years ago)

i might have to take on "e.t."

or the "keep on dancing 'til the world ends" song from the new britney album. feelin' a pre-apocalyptic/cross-planetary voib.

pan loco y salsa loca (get bent), Tuesday, 19 April 2011 02:16 (fourteen years ago)

also i know "stereo love" is from 2009 but it's getting HELLA radio play in my neck of the woods. someone please do it, for meee?

pan loco y salsa loca (get bent), Tuesday, 19 April 2011 02:19 (fourteen years ago)

If I had any skills at all, I would do "I Like It". Call Barack and Michelle let 'em know that it's on.

housedress? maxidress! (La Lechera), Tuesday, 19 April 2011 02:47 (fourteen years ago)

xp Yeah, I think that should count. It peaked in the U.S. in January 2011.

jaymc, Tuesday, 19 April 2011 04:47 (fourteen years ago)

dibs on "Like A G6"

beyond custos (absolutely clean glasses), Tuesday, 19 April 2011 09:56 (fourteen years ago)

I'm gonna regret this, but I'm calling one of the Katy B singles.

Think I'm going to go for "Broken Record" rather than "Lights On" for the simple reason that, um, I can't toast to save my life. Unless someone else wants to do the Ms Dynamite bits for me as a collaboration?

(Kareny B. Tregaskin?)

The Analords of Acid (Karen D. Tregaskin), Tuesday, 19 April 2011 10:05 (fourteen years ago)

You'd do a pretty good 'Broken Record' I think! Or for that matter most of them, but yeah maybe not 'Lights On'.

Looking forward to hearing this. Unless someone does 'Do It Like A Dude'.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 19 April 2011 10:10 (fourteen years ago)

...unless I got Ned to do the toasting bits on Lights On! ha hahaha.

The Analords of Acid (Karen D. Tregaskin), Tuesday, 19 April 2011 10:14 (fourteen years ago)

omg please yes

beyond custos (absolutely clean glasses), Tuesday, 19 April 2011 10:31 (fourteen years ago)

Nedding with the lights on

grill 'em bake 'em fry 'em burn 'em (snoball), Tuesday, 19 April 2011 10:40 (fourteen years ago)

Ragga Raggett toasting

grill 'em bake 'em fry 'em burn 'em (snoball), Tuesday, 19 April 2011 11:03 (fourteen years ago)

kinda want to do "firework" cuz I think those absurdly terrible lyrics would be fun to sing, but I dunno if I actually have the range for it

bernard snowy, Tuesday, 19 April 2011 12:03 (fourteen years ago)

(then again, neither does katy perry)

bernard snowy, Tuesday, 19 April 2011 12:03 (fourteen years ago)

excellent point.

pan loco y salsa loca (get bent), Tuesday, 19 April 2011 12:05 (fourteen years ago)

xp All you'd have to really do is shout.

grill 'em bake 'em fry 'em burn 'em (snoball), Tuesday, 19 April 2011 12:15 (fourteen years ago)

oh, speaking of the dreaded pomplamoose (upthread), who's going to do the hyundai jingle?

pan loco y salsa loca (get bent), Tuesday, 19 April 2011 12:22 (fourteen years ago)

nobody doing "being a dickhead's cool"?

Jlloyd, I'm ready to be heartbroken (ken c), Tuesday, 19 April 2011 12:32 (fourteen years ago)

looks like we filled that slot actually

bernard snowy, Tuesday, 19 April 2011 12:38 (fourteen years ago)

ah ok.

Jlloyd, I'm ready to be heartbroken (ken c), Tuesday, 19 April 2011 12:40 (fourteen years ago)

maybe i could actually finish the 'rolling in the deep' remix i started for this

ˆᴥˆ (blueski), Tuesday, 19 April 2011 12:46 (fourteen years ago)

What's the deadline, gbjbr?

Pleasant Plains, Tuesday, 19 April 2011 13:57 (fourteen years ago)

oy. weekend after memorial day?

pan loco y salsa loca (get bent), Tuesday, 19 April 2011 14:04 (fourteen years ago)

Translation into English, please?

The Analords of Acid (Karen D. Tregaskin), Tuesday, 19 April 2011 14:05 (fourteen years ago)

june 5?

pan loco y salsa loca (get bent), Tuesday, 19 April 2011 14:06 (fourteen years ago)

Soft deadline, with hard deadline St Swithin's Day?

The Analords of Acid (Karen D. Tregaskin), Tuesday, 19 April 2011 14:10 (fourteen years ago)

After much anguish, mine was sent and received.

jaymc, Sunday, 24 July 2011 22:47 (fourteen years ago)

hi guys my mac exploded last week and together with my recording on garageband. i can do it again but it'll take a couple of weeks (and try and find a good PC program to record on my laptop), so don't wait for me if you're all ready :(

Gary Numan, or Gary Fletcher (ken c), Monday, 25 July 2011 13:54 (fourteen years ago)

sent my track

spent days trying to fix a digital glitch in best take of main vocal track, if you hear it just smile and pretend you didn't

big triffid in my backyard (Edward III), Monday, 1 August 2011 15:10 (fourteen years ago)

got it!

who else is still in for this? my track is done.

orinoco flowbee (get bent), Monday, 1 August 2011 21:17 (fourteen years ago)

would love to have at least 10 songs; we have 7 right now.

orinoco flowbee (get bent), Monday, 1 August 2011 21:22 (fourteen years ago)

oh dang I completely slept on this. I can bang something out tomorrow, so count me in!

swaguirre, the wrath of basedgod (bernard snowy), Monday, 1 August 2011 22:29 (fourteen years ago)

I can do another song if you like, but you gotta give me another weekend. I was thinking about doing a Britney track next, though it's one of the album tracks off the latest album so I don't know if that counts within the remit tho I'm sure the album sold a bazillion copies even if it wasn't a single?

Aphex Twin … in my vagina? (Karen D. Tregaskin), Tuesday, 2 August 2011 09:30 (fourteen years ago)

OMG, someone just gave me the idea of doing a Britney song in Cornish...

http://audioboo.fm/boos/428062

I mean, obviously not that track (and I'd like to think I can sing slightly better than that) but as a concept! Do want!

Aphex Twin … in my vagina? (Karen D. Tregaskin), Tuesday, 2 August 2011 10:36 (fourteen years ago)

if i can get some kind of recording set up working, I will do this for 21st Aug.

Gary Numan, or Gary Fletcher (ken c), Tuesday, 2 August 2011 10:51 (fourteen years ago)

sure, do an album track. "singles" are slippery concept these days.

orinoco flowbee (get bent), Tuesday, 2 August 2011 15:32 (fourteen years ago)

Cool, thanks, will do.

Aphex Twin … in my vagina? (Karen D. Tregaskin), Tuesday, 2 August 2011 16:07 (fourteen years ago)

my contribution: http://ifile.it/qjlz3ev

swaguirre, the wrath of basedgod (bernard snowy), Tuesday, 2 August 2011 16:14 (fourteen years ago)

I'm down to do another, what's been taken?

dutty whiney (The Reverend), Tuesday, 2 August 2011 20:30 (fourteen years ago)

i've received "s&m," "tik tok," "till the world ends," "dj got us fallin in love," "firework," "unthinkable," "6 foot 7 foot" -- other track ideas are purely conceptual at this point.

orinoco flowbee (get bent), Tuesday, 2 August 2011 21:25 (fourteen years ago)

received "broken record" too.

orinoco flowbee (get bent), Tuesday, 2 August 2011 21:25 (fourteen years ago)

two weeks pass...

Sorry, I've bitten off more than I can chew this month, and I'm not going to get a chance to contribute any more tracks.

Aphex Twin … in my vagina? (Karen D. Tregaskin), Wednesday, 17 August 2011 14:00 (fourteen years ago)

I guess I'll send in my "Sure Thing" remix when I have time.

The Reverend, Wednesday, 17 August 2011 23:22 (fourteen years ago)

can we wrap this up around labor day? last call for submissions/completions.

chavo pendergrass (get bent), Thursday, 18 August 2011 02:52 (fourteen years ago)

chavo pendergrass (get bent), Thursday, 18 August 2011 02:53 (fourteen years ago)

skrillex pretend (The Reverend), Monday, 19 September 2011 02:42 (fourteen years ago)

debenture banhart (get bent), Monday, 19 September 2011 03:02 (fourteen years ago)

the tyrone power mixtape (get bent), Tuesday, 20 September 2011 16:39 (fourteen years ago)

I'll explain:

I recorded a bunch of Kraftwerk tracks onto minidisc from Spotify, back when I didn't have the Premium service. On playback, I had to edit out all the damn commercials. One of which was Ke$ha's "tik tok" featuring that very segment.

Mark G, Wednesday, 21 September 2011 01:15 (fourteen years ago)

Good album, wd everyone! Gonna single out Scare Quotes's contribution as particularly +. :)
