Good Samaritan Laws -- Yay or Nay

what are our thoughts on laws that either fine or place people in jail/probation for failing to act when someone is being attacked?

I've always been iffy at a law that requires someone to put themselves in harm's way (especially because if they get killed in the process, it implies their life was less valuable than the original person being attacked).

granted I do find it morally reprehensible if someone sits idly by while someone is in need, but is that enough to charge and arrest someone?
