I'm not buying the story about ya'll. It seems farfetched at best. After living in Texas for the past 11 years, the one thing I've learned is that y'all is the correct choice.

I'm kinda wondering if anyone will turn up to defend ya'll. Seems unlikely to me.

thing is, y'all could still be ya all, so there's really no excuse for the ya'll if the "ya don't understand us ppl we say ya not YOU" is your strongest argument

btw even if I accept that "ya" is an acceptable pronoun from which to form contractions, "ya'll" would still clearly mean "ya will"

for a board filled with people who confuse "less" with "fewer" and, worse, use "begging the question" to mean "raising the question," ya'll are pretty intense about the placement of inverted commas

I believe an inverted comma is a single quotation mark. What we're talking about here is an apostrophe.

earlier today I typed "the moment y'all been waiting for" and didn't correct it, my totally faulty reasoning being that it's serving as a contraction of "you've all"

the thing is where I come from the ppl who say "y'all" do not say "ya." my grandparents say "yeew" so my understanding of the "y'all" contraction has always been that it goes like this: you all -> yeew all -> ye'all -> y'all
