There have been "studies" before that show that finger length is related to sexual orientation. Gay men tend to have longer index fingers iirc.

i remember a particularly rowdy late-period 7th grade class in which a group of broey dudes had caught wind of this irrefutable scientific evidence and took it upon themselves to force a mandatory poll on all male peers. their conclusions apparently indicated that a number of the participants were fags. then the bell rang.

this is misleading because the finger that extends the farthest isn't necessary the longest finger. what you really have to do is measure the fingers from bottom of crease to the tip and then divide index finger length by ring finger length. then compare the figure to the chart here and go "hmmmmm..."

except wikipedia sez, "most studies find no differences in digit ratio between gay and straight men. Some studies correlate male homosexuality and 2D:4D (i.e. ratio of index finger to ring finger) positively, others negatively." that's no fun.

fwiw I have HUUUUGE index finger. my index finger:ring finger ratio = 1.094 if I measured it right.

if i hold my palm up in what i think of as a "standard position," the index finger is significantly longer (NO, THANKS).
if i lay my palm down on a table, as in phil d's pic above, the ring finger is longer - like, a lot longer (STUD).
if i make sure my wrist is exactly perpendicular to my forearm, fingers parallel, they're both the same (SO-SO).
