Best Movie STARRING Ben Affleck 1998-2004

I saw most of Paycheck last night because it was leaving Netflix Instant and I was curious about Paycheck. I left out blatant ensemble work like 200 Cigarettes, because this is about movies that depend on Ben Affleck to help carry the film, not just give it a little Affleckian boost.

in hindsight, i probably should have excluded it - Willis is the bigger star, plenty of ensemble action. Not a Ben Affleck Vehicle

da croupier, Thursday, 28 April 2011 11:36 (fourteen years ago)

prob prefer daredevil to anything else

Its shocking to see just how shit that string of movies is. His cameo in Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back was the best thing he did during this run, but since its not an option... I'm going to have to vote Jersey Girl just because I will lol when I see the 1 vote it gets.

His cameo in Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back was the best thing he did during this run, but since its not an option... he was the bomb in Phantoms yo.

hong does your geirden gro (some dude), Thursday, 28 April 2011 13:15 (fourteen years ago)

I seem to remember I really enjoyed Changing Lanes, though I haven't thought about it in years.

justfanoe (Greg Fanoe), Tuesday, 3 May 2011 00:35 (fourteen years ago)

^^ yeah that

I couldn't tell you what the movie was about except that there was a car crash and multiple stories? but I remember enjoying it

iatee, Tuesday, 3 May 2011 00:37 (fourteen years ago)

i liked changing lanes as well, though i also remember little of it

armageddon owns

cum dude (Princess TamTam), Tuesday, 3 May 2011 00:45 (fourteen years ago)

I think I've only seen Jersey Girl. Weird.

\(^o\) (/o^)/ (ENBB), Tuesday, 3 May 2011 01:16 (fourteen years ago)

Reindeer Games is the best of this list that I've actually seen.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 3 May 2011 01:17 (fourteen years ago)

armaggedon, reindeer games or the sum of all fears

ban drake (the rapper) (max), Tuesday, 3 May 2011 01:20 (fourteen years ago)

okay i haven't seen it, but how can reindeer games be good?

horseshoe, Tuesday, 3 May 2011 01:24 (fourteen years ago)

its john frankenheimer!

ban drake (the rapper) (max), Tuesday, 3 May 2011 01:24 (fourteen years ago)

gary sinise is in it!

ban drake (the rapper) (max), Tuesday, 3 May 2011 01:25 (fourteen years ago)

its john frankenheimer!

Correct! Also, Charlize Theron before she became Charlize Theron-bot.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 3 May 2011 01:27 (fourteen years ago)

Huh?

\(^o\) (/o^)/ (ENBB), Tuesday, 3 May 2011 01:31 (fourteen years ago)

reindeer games is really bad

cum dude (Princess TamTam), Tuesday, 3 May 2011 01:35 (fourteen years ago)

i saw it when it came out being all like 'frankenheimer! sinise!' too but afterwards i was just like :|

cum dude (Princess TamTam), Tuesday, 3 May 2011 01:36 (fourteen years ago)

Where's Boiler Room? That one's horribly amazing.

^^would've voted for this. jeez these are some terrible movies - I have seen reindeer games and jersey girl and remember absolutely nothing about them.

i've also seen gigli, daredevil and pearl harbor and wish i could remember absolutely nothing about them.

Roz, Tuesday, 3 May 2011 01:43 (fourteen years ago)

Huh?

It was during the brief time her career was on the rise, before she was being cast in five out of every ten films being made playing essentially the same character, and well before she stepped back and started choosing her roles carefully. So pre-ubiquity and pre-pre-awards.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 3 May 2011 01:49 (fourteen years ago)

Yeah, I don't really ever remember thinking of her being in every other film and playing the same character repeatedly but I may just not of seem much of whatever you're referring to.

\(^o\) (/o^)/ (ENBB), Tuesday, 3 May 2011 01:51 (fourteen years ago)

to be clear reindeer games is pretty mediocre; i was just answering horseshoes question of "how"

ban drake (the rapper) (max), Tuesday, 3 May 2011 01:55 (fourteen years ago)

yeah but it's John Frankenheimer

BlackIronPrison, Tuesday, 3 May 2011 01:56 (fourteen years ago)

tbh I haven't seen Reindeer Games in a number of years, but I like what I remember of it.

I remember Changing Lanes having so much promise based on the trailer, but it stunk out loud.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 3 May 2011 01:58 (fourteen years ago)

thought changing lanes was really trite & boring tbh

So seveir, no more beir (darraghmac), Tuesday, 3 May 2011 02:24 (fourteen years ago)

Changing Lanes, easy.

Pop is superior to all other genres (DL), Tuesday, 3 May 2011 12:48 (fourteen years ago)

Where's Boiler Room? That one's horribly amazing.

Movies where Affleck's role is smaller than Giovanni Ribisi's and Vin Deisel's combined were not included.

da croupier, Tuesday, 3 May 2011 12:58 (fourteen years ago)

haha wait that makes no sense - of course his is smaller when they're combined. I mean when he's basically doing an Alec Baldwin in Glengarry Glen Ross glorified cameo.

da croupier, Tuesday, 3 May 2011 12:58 (fourteen years ago)

If Armageddon wins that'll just be straight proof that the best Ben Affleck movies of this period were films were ones that weren't really about Ben Affleck.

da croupier, Tuesday, 3 May 2011 13:00 (fourteen years ago)

gotta give him major points for somehow morphing into nu-Clint Eastwood after this run and not into some bloated celebrity poker playing Michael Madsen type

da croupier, Tuesday, 3 May 2011 13:03 (fourteen years ago)

affleck can't quite shake the baby-fat - no matter how buff he gets, no matter how rugged his jawline he still sort of seems like a kid. so when he tried that routine in boiler room it was just awful - i had to watch through my fingers

Huh?

lloyd banks knew my father (history mayne), Tuesday, 3 May 2011 13:16 (fourteen years ago)

people were so traumatized by having to look at Charlize Theron all the time that they've suppressed all memories of her reign of terror, poor dears

some dude, Tuesday, 3 May 2011 13:26 (fourteen years ago)

i mean, that year that she was in Sweet November AND 15 Minutes AND Curse of the Jade Scorpion, gosh, you just couldn't get away from her

some dude, Tuesday, 3 May 2011 13:28 (fourteen years ago)

I would probably have voted for Boiler Room too, but it clearly doesn't qualify as a film that stars Ben Affleck. Now I'm starting to wonder if I rewatched Changing Lanes, if it would still be any good. Still, it has no real competition in this poll.

justfanoe (Greg Fanoe), Tuesday, 3 May 2011 13:43 (fourteen years ago)

of these, I've seen Daredevil, Pearl Harbor and Forces of Nature

I only remember Daredevil and Pearl Harbor

voting Forces of Nature

Dreaded Burrito Gang (DJP), Tuesday, 3 May 2011 13:46 (fourteen years ago)

I vaguely remember thinking Changing Lanes was "ok".

The only other one of these I can remember seeing is Daredevil. I vaguely remember thinking it was "not ok".
