Have at it

So seveir, no more beir (darraghmac), Tuesday, 3 May 2011 11:43 (fourteen years ago)

Margaret Thatcher
Rupert Murdoch.

Letzte Tage - Letzte Pächmina (Pashmina), Tuesday, 3 May 2011 11:43 (fourteen years ago)

brian lenihan first springs to mind for me

So seveir, no more beir (darraghmac), Tuesday, 3 May 2011 11:44 (fourteen years ago)

i think he is my thatcher, tbh

So seveir, no more beir (darraghmac), Tuesday, 3 May 2011 11:44 (fourteen years ago)

Thatcher - not really, it'll be insufferable, and her death won't do anything to change or undo what she did to the country.

Murdoch - still has potential to do a lot more damage, would rather he was somehow disgraced and locked up and his empire broken up, mind.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 3 May 2011 11:45 (fourteen years ago)

in fact, tagline should prob be 'your own personal thatcher'

So seveir, no more beir (darraghmac), Tuesday, 3 May 2011 11:46 (fourteen years ago)

Not sure I'd celebrate. But Thatcher easily.

So seveir, no more beir (darraghmac), Tuesday, 3 May 2011 11:47 (fourteen years ago)

True enough w/r/2 Thatcher, Matt, but I will still feel a sense of "good riddance".

Letzte Tage - Letzte Pächmina (Pashmina), Tuesday, 3 May 2011 11:47 (fourteen years ago)

Nacho Novo.

Megatron

suge knight rider (Neanderthal), Tuesday, 3 May 2011 11:52 (fourteen years ago)

Mugabe btw

Any one of Gaddafi's grandchildren, evil little bastards

Tom D has taken many months to run this thread to ground (Tom D.), Tuesday, 3 May 2011 11:54 (fourteen years ago)

i don't wish death on him because being unfunny isn't a capital crime, but if Dane Cook was to tragically lose his voicebox, I might be a celebratin' man...

suge knight rider (Neanderthal), Tuesday, 3 May 2011 11:54 (fourteen years ago)

yeah it seemed harsh but i considered leading with martin jol, purely for the lols mind

So seveir, no more beir (darraghmac), Tuesday, 3 May 2011 11:55 (fourteen years ago)

Trump

iatee, Tuesday, 3 May 2011 11:56 (fourteen years ago)

tbh I more pity Trump at this point, with his delusions of grandeur

suge knight rider (Neanderthal), Tuesday, 3 May 2011 11:57 (fourteen years ago)

nick griffin, adrian littlejohn, gary neville.

Will.Have.Known (Local Garda), Tuesday, 3 May 2011 11:57 (fourteen years ago)

Will.Have.Known (Local Garda), Tuesday, 3 May 2011 11:58 (fourteen years ago)

axis of considerable offensiveness right there

So seveir, no more beir (darraghmac), Tuesday, 3 May 2011 11:58 (fourteen years ago)

that's ok cuz idk who they are

suge knight rider (Neanderthal), Tuesday, 3 May 2011 11:58 (fourteen years ago)

actually tho can't imagine celebrating a death, more saying "good riddance" or "i never liked him"

Will.Have.Known (Local Garda), Tuesday, 3 May 2011 12:02 (fourteen years ago)

thats just the reserved paddy in you, i mean if you even said that much at home you'd be ostracised

So seveir, no more beir (darraghmac), Tuesday, 3 May 2011 12:04 (fourteen years ago)

i want humiliation and shame for the people i loathe most in the world, not death. what use is death if they're not alive to endure it? but imagine the glorious schadenfreude of witnessing richard littlejohn reduced to public mockery and begging in the gutter.

i guess i'd feel happy in cases where it seems like an individual's death is necessary in some way (gaddafi now?)

lex pretend, Tuesday, 3 May 2011 12:07 (fourteen years ago)

Yeah I'd rather endless lakes of torture, fire and misery than the release of death.

Trayce, Tuesday, 3 May 2011 12:10 (fourteen years ago)

But that said I coulnt give 2 shits about world leaders pretend. My loathing extends to people I actually know.

Trayce, Tuesday, 3 May 2011 12:10 (fourteen years ago)

i guess i'd feel happy in cases where it seems like an individual's death is necessary in some way (gaddafi now?)

Yeah that's the thing with me. See also Mugabe.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 3 May 2011 12:19 (fourteen years ago)

general problem with this whole idea: death is moment of victory, sanctification etc, for many people, who get put relatively beyond criticism. Reagan might be an example. Maggie would be too. So would W, whom I hate more. In most cases, I want the people I hate to be alive and open to attack, critique, etc; rather than dead and canonized.

People who talk about rejoicing at Maggie's demise, as many have done for 20 years or so, I can't really identify with. It seems to miss the point.

I think what I feel is: I want Maggie to stay alive forever so that I can feel (however inaccurately) that the effects of Thatcherism are openended and alterable for ever -- when she's gone, it will feel sealed and completed.

not sure I can explain better than that.

the pinefox, Tuesday, 3 May 2011 12:39 (fourteen years ago)

it's an interesting thought but i can't believe that individuals like bush or thatcher are in any way affected by critiques of their actions, and especially not after the fact and they've got what they wanted.

Death's not a victory against them, it's true, but really against a malignant and untouchable elite, outliving them is usually the only victory you can get.

Thatch's death is unlike the others mentioned because:

The reigning Conservs will be all "Let us all celebrate the life of one who gave us so much and..." and the people will interrupt and go "no let's have a good old riot during the processions and ..."

Street parties will have to state their position before allowing people in. Imagine going to a 'hray she's gone' one and finding it stuffed with sitting lords....

and so on.

Mark G, Tuesday, 3 May 2011 13:05 (fourteen years ago)

(sorry scott, was the next pic an even bigger one I interrupted?)

Mark G, Tuesday, 3 May 2011 13:06 (fourteen years ago)

agree that it will be divisive
but not that 'the people' are against her

lots of 'people' like her and voted for her, and for her successors.

the pinefox, Tuesday, 3 May 2011 13:08 (fourteen years ago)

John Higgins

celebrating a death isn't really supposed to have purpose, I don't think

bell hops (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 3 May 2011 13:15 (fourteen years ago)

Well, I didn't mean "All the people", just "a fair proportion of people who aren't Conservative MPs", etc.

Mark G, Tuesday, 3 May 2011 13:18 (fourteen years ago)

'S up with John Higgins?

Tom D has taken many months to run this thread to ground (Tom D.), Tuesday, 3 May 2011 13:18 (fourteen years ago)

I can't really imagine celebrating the death of anyone, but

Alito, Scalia, Thomas, but only if said death occurs before their respective retirements. otherwise like what's the fucking point.

is a good answer, with the additional condition that it happen during a Democratic administration.

honestly, though, there are some people like glenn beck who i actually believe are dangerous in ways that are hard to measure. like, i think he is actually psychically dangerous to the planet. he creates collective unconscious bad mood vibes that reverberate throughout our solar system. for the good of the planet i think he needs to pass from this mortal coil.

Van Hoogstraten is such a caricature of a classic villain that I will be disappointed if he doesn't die impaled on the top of a building, or eaten by his own pet sharks.
