What is the difference between the two? And, would you wear either one?

We used to have a thermodynamics teacher who wore a cravat. We were totally fascinated by it. What a snappy dresser!

One member of the House of Lords lists an interest in Dodds as being 'cravatology'. WHAT A GUY!

Shame I can't remember his name though.

three years pass...
Have a co-worker and friend who's dad only wears ascots. Went to London with him not to long ago, and he and I were looking at Herrod's for one to buy his dad as a gift. When we asked the store clerks, they were baffled. Finally after describing how it was worn, one clerk piped up, "Oh, you mean a cravat!" Two countries separated by a common language I'm afraid! ;-)

I thought that there was a difference in the way that they were tied and worn, but I could be wrong. Captain Anderson has a fine one, based on the one that Nelson wore at the Battle of Trafalgar, apparently!

six years pass...

Would I be able to rock an ascot without a vest, or would that be gauche?
