LA news once again reporting that Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver have separated. Sad Sad Sad.

The former first lady has moved out after 25 years of marriage.
In spite of their glaring differences in politics, they seemed a really good and solid couple. I am saddened to hear this news.

I am stunned and really saddened at this news. Yup, while I am an Angelo, I have always thought the were a really great couple and it gave me hope that a couple with VERY diverse political ideas could still put that all aside and be a happily married couple. I am actually hopeful that they might reconcile.

He's a cousin of a woman my dad was friends with years ago and supposedly at her son's wedding reception he spent the entire time running to the bathroom to blow lines and this was when he was the face of the Presidential Physical Fitness program or whatever. Fortunately for the young Schwarzenegger offspring, it appears the kid had the kind of stable nuclear family the Republican leader condones: a father figure, a biological father who secretly sent them money, and a mother who worked for the guy. You can see why, shortly before his move into politics, he was able to state with confidence, "To me, family has always been the basic foundation of everything ... Single parenting is a danger and that's what we have to avoid." See, it's OK, because Arnold and the staffer who had his child were married. He never specified it had to be to each other. And that's your family values, Schwarzenegger-style.

So this is kinda funny:

It was the early 2000s. Just before Schwarzenegger declared for the California governorship. I was attending a conference in Europe sponsored by Netjets, the fractional jet ownership company. Most of the conference was devoted to high-minded issues of the global economy, African poverty, etc.

But there was one commercial interlude for the wealthy conference attendees: a particularly lavish lunch (if I remember right, we tasted different vintages of Chateau Latour) at which Arnold Schwarzenegger was the featured speaker.

His topic? The advantages of Netjets over owning one’s own plane.

Two examples he cited stuck with me:

1) Netjets customers did not need to worry about their pilots’ holiday schedules conflicting with their own;

2) Netjets customers did not have to contend with flight attendants asking if they could bring their children along on the trip.

I remember at the time thinking, “Yeah I could sort of see problem #1. But #2? Does that really happen?” And now we perhaps know why it was on Schwarzenegger’s mind…

Her name is also Maria, she served on the Housekeeping Staff for 20 years.

Did I ever tell the story of years ago when I lived in LA, one of my BFFs was a sushi chef at one of the most popular restaurants in LA, Arnold (then married) was having an affair with a head manager at the restaurant. He was not very discreet then.

Sources tell TMZ -- in the late 90's Patty began to "pursue Arnold." She told friends they would have unprotected sex during the day at the house. Patty never slept overnight at the house and no one ever caught them in the act.

y'know i totally believe that good strong marriages are possible and men can be monogamous and all that, but honestly when stuff like this happens with guys like arnold or tiger who were famous and used to getting laid constantly for years before getting hitched, i kinda wonder why they bothered even trying. i'm not so sure i'd ever get married if i had their life.

Ayo Morbs don't know if you know this but there was a Terminator movie in theaters and a television series as recently as two years ago. It's like one of the most popular and $$$ sci-fi franchises around. Not like Takei's only reference point is a 30-year-old low-budget actioner, here.

Schwarzenegger, fresh off his groping scandal -- and with an East Coast reporter sitting in his living room no less -- barked out: “Look at her! Some queer told her she looks good in that but her t--s look like s--t!”
