suggest ban the subbest man (some dude), Monday, 16 May 2011 18:05 (fourteen years ago)

I was looking for Terriers, then I realized you said broadcast-only.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 16 May 2011 18:06 (fourteen years ago)

haha i was about to say, is it broadcast only so Terriers wouldnt run away w/it?

public anime #1 (Princess TamTam), Monday, 16 May 2011 18:08 (fourteen years ago)

it wasn't amazing, but Chicago Code at least wasn't tremendously shitty like 99% of these were.

Simon H. Shit (Simon H.), Monday, 16 May 2011 18:09 (fourteen years ago)

i kinda wanna vote for the cape because i kinda don't want "the cape" jokes to become out-of-date

da croupier, Monday, 16 May 2011 18:10 (fourteen years ago)

The Cape was batshit stupid, how could I NOT vote for it

Dreaded Burrito Gang (DJP), Monday, 16 May 2011 18:11 (fourteen years ago)

i saw one episode of traffic light and it was really funny. I think that's the only show of this list I saw.

I want my children to know what this is about

da croupier, Monday, 16 May 2011 18:12 (fourteen years ago)

yeah poll would be boring w/ Terriers in the running, the lack of an obvious "brilliant but canceled" cult favorite is the reason i thought this would be an unpredictable and maybe fun poll, but i wasn't heartbroken about even my favorites

top 10:
Better With You, Chaos, Mr. Sunshine, The Good Guys, Traffic Light, Outlaw, Breaking In, The Whole Truth, The Chicago Code, The Paul Reiser Show

bottom 10 (that i got through at least half an episode of):
The Event, V, The Cape, Mad Love, Chase, Outsourced, Detroit 1-8-7, Off The Map, Running Wilde, Undercovers

suggest ban the subbest man (some dude), Monday, 16 May 2011 18:17 (fourteen years ago)

i never watched outsourced but i remember being astonished by the ads for it

public anime #1 (Princess TamTam), Monday, 16 May 2011 18:18 (fourteen years ago)

damn, can't even get a cop show to work these days

goole, Monday, 16 May 2011 18:19 (fourteen years ago)

watched exactly 0 of shows listed

tubular balls (Pillbox), Monday, 16 May 2011 18:20 (fourteen years ago)

actually i might not have gotten even half an episode through Chase, that was just dire

suggest ban the subbest man (some dude), Monday, 16 May 2011 18:20 (fourteen years ago)

doctor shows are the ones that really bring in the young ppl these days

public anime #1 (Princess TamTam), Monday, 16 May 2011 18:20 (fourteen years ago)

tho I meant to check out Detroit 1-8-7

tubular balls (Pillbox), Monday, 16 May 2011 18:21 (fourteen years ago)

Outsourced did get far less offensive and more funny in the latter-season eps I saw (including the final one), but when you have a pilot that was that bad you deserve the cancellation you get.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 16 May 2011 18:22 (fourteen years ago)

Saw one episode of Detroit 187, Chase, LOLA and Running Wild each, and the snippets of Perfect Couples and Paul Reiser via DVR. Of the bunch, Perfect Couples at least appeared to have a dumbed down How I Met Your Mother "relationships, AMIRITE?" thing going on, and I could have seen Detroit 187 becoming the dumbed down Homicide: Life On The Street it wanted to be after it lost the weak-ass faux-doc angle. Still voting for The Cape. I miss ads for that so much.

da croupier, Monday, 16 May 2011 18:23 (fourteen years ago)

Have seen some reports that Fox might have second thoughts about Breaking In, btw. Since shows typically don't get UNcanceled, it's probably safe to include it here.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 16 May 2011 18:23 (fourteen years ago)

xx-post - Did it? It looked so unbelievably racist in the previews and stuff. I'm surprised it ever aired let alone did so and got axed.

\(^o\) (/o^)/ (ENBB), Monday, 16 May 2011 18:24 (fourteen years ago)

xpost Aw, I kinda loved that Christian Slater was gonna pull off three failed one season shows in a row.

da croupier, Monday, 16 May 2011 18:24 (fourteen years ago)

"Dammit, every other '80s teenybopper is scoring on TV, WHY CAN'T WE GET SLATER TO HIT???"

da croupier, Monday, 16 May 2011 18:25 (fourteen years ago)

you could've cut down a couple of really solid episodes of Outsourced from the best of the whole season, but it definitely wasn't worth waiting around for those occasional funny moments

i heard Breaking In might not be dead yet (and it already came back from the dead once before getting on the air) but it's an OK show and probably won't get talked about on ILX anywhere else so figured eh might as well leave it in

suggest ban the subbest man (some dude), Monday, 16 May 2011 18:26 (fourteen years ago)

i feel so much "fuck you ABC for believing in this enough to give it a 2nd season" bile for V

suggest ban the subbest man (some dude), Monday, 16 May 2011 18:34 (fourteen years ago)

I voted Mr. Sunshine, but chiefly because I thought Roman was great. I hope that kid eventually lands on something successful.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 16 May 2011 18:38 (fourteen years ago)

(although, looking at imdb, I see he's only three years younger than I am.)

Johnny Fever, Monday, 16 May 2011 18:39 (fourteen years ago)

really? maybe it's because i mainly know that guy from commercials but he seems like such a generic 'upbeat fat guy comic relief' type that i can't really imagine looking forward to seeing him in something else, even if he did work well in Mr. Sunshine.

suggest ban the subbest man (some dude), Monday, 16 May 2011 18:41 (fourteen years ago)

What can I say...he just strikes me as joyfully funny.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 16 May 2011 18:42 (fourteen years ago)

yeah he's definitely likable, just struck me as an odd person to single out

showkillers tally:
Better With You is Josh Cooke's 4th canceled series
Breaking In is Christian Slater and Bret Harrison's 3rd canceled series
Mr. Sunshine is Andrea Anders' 3rd canceled series
Mad Love is Tyler Labine's 3rd canceled series and Judy Greer's 3rd canceled series
Perfect Couples is Kyle Bornheimer's 3rd canceled series and David Walton's 2nd canceled series

suggest ban the subbest man (some dude), Monday, 16 May 2011 18:50 (fourteen years ago)

oops no Andrea's 4th

suggest ban the subbest man (some dude), Monday, 16 May 2011 18:51 (fourteen years ago)

Judy Greer's 3rd canceled series

Still have room in my heart for Miss Guided, R.I.P. :(

Johnny Fever, Monday, 16 May 2011 18:52 (fourteen years ago)

i wonder if Paula Marshall retired from the doomed sitcom game, like if Gary Unmarried making it 2 whole seasons spoiled her losing streak like Susan Lucci finally winning an Emmy

suggest ban the subbest man (some dude), Monday, 16 May 2011 18:54 (fourteen years ago)

A couple of Andrea Anders' shows have had more than one season (I'm right in thinking Better Off Ted had a second season, yes?).

Johnny Fever, Monday, 16 May 2011 18:55 (fourteen years ago)

yeah i'm being liberal with my defnition of "showkiller" here, two of her shows lasted 2 seasons, as did Reaper (with Bret Harrison and Tyler Labine)

suggest ban the subbest man (some dude), Monday, 16 May 2011 18:59 (fourteen years ago)

I kind of liked Mad Love. Even though the main couple (dork from American Pie and one of Roseann's kids) were getting pretty tedious.

Thraft of Cleveland (Bill Magill), Monday, 16 May 2011 19:07 (fourteen years ago)

they totally could've done something good with that ragtag crew of also-rans and showkillers, but the writing was just dire

suggest ban the subbest man (some dude), Monday, 16 May 2011 19:12 (fourteen years ago)

actually i might not have gotten even half an episode through Chase, that was just dire

Chase managed to be just as stupid as The Cape, only it wasn't about a psycho traumatizing his son by dressing up as a comic book hero

Dreaded Burrito Gang (DJP), Monday, 16 May 2011 21:23 (fourteen years ago)

Chicago Code, Traffic Light, and Human Target (first season) are the ones I'll miss.

I'll also miss the theme song to Perfect Couples but not the show.

reggaeton for the painfully alone (polyphonic), Monday, 16 May 2011 21:43 (fourteen years ago)

yeah Human Target i was barely even aware of when it existed but then after it was canceled i was like hmm that looks like it could've been good, i should've watched it.

suggest ban the subbest man (some dude), Tuesday, 17 May 2011 00:28 (fourteen years ago)

i just heard the Mad Love theme song for probably the last time. i will not miss it.

suggest ban the subbest man (some dude), Tuesday, 17 May 2011 00:32 (fourteen years ago)

awesome idea for a thread some dude. I voted for Running Wilde. i also enjoyed Better With You. didn't love either of them.

Mordy, Tuesday, 17 May 2011 00:36 (fourteen years ago)

outsourced, perfect couple, and the last five minutes of better with you and the first five minutes of mr. sunshine were the only ones of these i ever caught any of - would have to vote perfect couples i guess there. the chicago code was the only one i was curious about.

balls, Tuesday, 17 May 2011 00:44 (fourteen years ago)

I watched one episode of Perfect Couples and hated it. Heard it got better, but the ratings foretold doom so I never picked it back up.

I thought Better With You was perfectly charming but ultimately fluff and even though I saw most of the episodes I really don't care that it's been canceled.

Outsourced's pilot was so terrible that I didn't watch it again until the second half of the season, and only then because I just left it on NBC after 30 Rock was over. The Indian castmembers were really great and the tone of the show became less "lol Indian customs" and more typical sitcom humor, but the white actors were either as bland as possible (the main guy, his Aussie girlfriend) or completely unfunny and moronic (Diedrich Bader).

I voted for Mr. Sunshine because I saw where it had room to improve and wanted to see that happen, but it was too farcical for network tv in 2011 probably. (At least ABC tv.)

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 17 May 2011 00:53 (fourteen years ago)

so is the event gonna be the last blatant attempt at creating another lost we're gonna get? i swear each of those things was worse than the one that failed before it.

balls, Tuesday, 17 May 2011 01:02 (fourteen years ago)

abrams has another sure-to-fail Lost type show premiering for Fox soon

anime hitler, the futanari führer (Princess TamTam), Tuesday, 17 May 2011 01:05 (fourteen years ago)

Yeah, Terra Nova looks like a cross between Lost and Jurassic Park.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 17 May 2011 03:03 (fourteen years ago)

yeah Human Target i was barely even aware of when it existed but then after it was canceled i was like hmm that looks like it could've been good, i should've watched it.

ten bucks on Amazon

Saw half the first ep of Shat, My Dad, Says on TV, laptop-watched the second Paul Reiser for Rollins, and No Ordinary Family premiered here last week - don't think any of the others have aired. Out of those three, it's Super-Chiklis, but the only good thing was the daughter's whinging on the plane at the beginning. Chiklis, Benz and Romany Malco in one show should be half-decent though.

special midget status (sic), Tuesday, 17 May 2011 05:28 (fourteen years ago)

Aw, they cancelled the Good Guys? I was just getting into that from t0rr3ntz :(

The man who mistook his life for a FAP (Trayce), Tuesday, 17 May 2011 05:35 (fourteen years ago)

i didn't watch the good guys, but i hope now colin hanks can revisit his role as the guitar-strummy priest on mad men.

I don't know if you should use my "Alf" reference (reddening), Tuesday, 17 May 2011 07:37 (fourteen years ago)

Vinnie Jones as Dominic Raoul / Scales – a frightening criminal menace with a freakish skin condition that gives him the appearance of being covered with green and gold scales. His "scales" make him more resistant to damage. He is an enemy of the Cape. It was revealed in the episode “Scales” that he was at one time part of a circus sideshow due to his skin condition.

I cannot see how this would not be a hit.

i can't, i won't (Ned Trifle II), Tuesday, 17 May 2011 08:36 (fourteen years ago)

Very important stapler scene at 2:59

da croupier, Tuesday, 17 May 2011 12:46 (fourteen years ago)

The Chicago Code and No Ordinary Family are the only two I've watched. The former was good, and gets my vote. I'm sad to see it go. The latter was DISMAL and I would have been pretty shocked if it made it to a second season.

franny glass, Tuesday, 17 May 2011 14:10 (fourteen years ago)

"Detroit 187" was almost good.

"Undercovers" was unforgivably bad but I am totally in love with the lead actress so there you go

This thread is doing nothing to confirm my suspicion that my husband and I are the only people on earth who watch The Defenders.

ailsa, Tuesday, 17 May 2011 15:00 (fourteen years ago)

Nothing to deny my suspicion, that is. It's doing everything to confirm it.

ailsa, Tuesday, 17 May 2011 15:01 (fourteen years ago)

that seemed like it could be OK but Jim Belushi and Jerry O'Connell are such an unpromising pair of stars that i decided to wait for that other "funny lawyer show" with the slightly less distasteful Breckin Meyer and Mark-Paul Gosselaar.

some dude, Tuesday, 17 May 2011 15:03 (fourteen years ago)

lol @ tv

Lamp, Tuesday, 17 May 2011 15:04 (fourteen years ago)

haha I forgot I saw the first episode of the Defenders. It wasn't good, and my desire to see Jerry O'Connell gainfully employed was undercut by my desire to not see Jim Belushi.

da croupier, Tuesday, 17 May 2011 15:20 (fourteen years ago)

Belushi is quite bad, but O'Connell's watchable enough. It passes a wee bit of time once a week and I won't miss it when it's gone.

The Event is utterly terrible, btw. We've just recently started working our way through the second half of the season, but it's hard going to care about stupid blondey half-alien who didn't even realise she was half-alien even when her dad said "I'm an alien, btw"

ailsa, Tuesday, 17 May 2011 16:00 (fourteen years ago)

in fairness, that character was an MIT student; let's be happy that she is occasionally remembering to comb her hair

I HAVE ISSUES (DJP), Tuesday, 17 May 2011 16:01 (fourteen years ago)

"dumbed down Homicide: Life on the Streets" is almost a perfect description of Detroit 187 which is how I voted (I saw maybe 2 eps)

excitebikable boy (Drugs A. Money), Tuesday, 17 May 2011 16:08 (fourteen years ago)

i actually thought belushi was entertaining. he fits the part.

i kind of wonder if they were doing a slow-rollout on 'chicago code'. they obviously had ambitions to make it more wire-y and shield-y, but were probably tetchy about the 'complexity' for fear of losing imagined viewers.

Mike & Molly was the highest rated new sitcom of the season iirc

I HAVE ISSUES (DJP), Tuesday, 17 May 2011 17:17 (fourteen years ago)

i think it's a decent show, but besides that it's a Chuck Lorre production on CBS Monday nights, those 2 things alone make it a hit out of the box.

bile al (some dude), Tuesday, 17 May 2011 17:23 (fourteen years ago)

detroit 1-8-7 was decent...imperioli has no luck though.

it was definitely flawed and didn't have much payoff at the end, but i enjoyed it well enough and as a one-season investment i'd say it's worth it.

the finale was definitely more season finale feeling than series finale feeling. shame it didn't get to develop further.

Human Target got my vote. Reminded me in spirit of old 80s action shows like The Equalizer, A-Team, MacGuyver, etc. They mishandled the show by putting emphasis on the wrong elements and characters, but it had some great moments.

Stockhausen's Ekranoplan Quartet (Elvis Telecom), Monday, 23 May 2011 11:01 (fourteen years ago)

I really think Chicago Code was starting to hit its stride. Really kind of pissed that it was cancelled to allow FOX to greenlight some new cop show about a detective that talks to his dead wife or something. Ugh.

Traffic Light was also pretty funny, a lot better than other sitcoms still being foisted on us.

V was so so awful, can't believe it even made it to season two.
