fuck another 'are games art' discussion, but i've been at least as immersed and involved and - yes! moved! - by recent games (portal 2, red dead redemption) as any recent movies.

Video games are mostly pretty bad if you're not the one playing.
I feel like with films, at least everyone in the audience is also suffering.

That booker quote is so dumb. I hate it when these articles conflate gross sales with audience size. Like even if LA Noire were a work of art on par with 2001, it sold 1.6 million copies in its first week of release, which is nothing like "smashing box office records." It would probably be on average #4 or 5 at the box office on any given weekend if it were a movie (1.6mil * $8 ticket average = $12.8 million opening weekend). Even on the worst weekend this year, it would have only been #2.
