Tuturro can either be very good in roles which suit a bloke with a wonky jaw or really bad. Being mates with Spike Lee and Los Bros Coens however will always flatter his talent.

curiously unmentioned above is his turn in Jungle Fever, prob his best for Spike Lee. Possibly helped by the fact that everyone playing Italian bigots in his segment is overacting to the rafters.
also just figgered out one of his kids has a show on wfmu

Is it the same one who played the young Luke Wilson in Royal Tenenbaums?

He talks about his newly opened fifth directorial effort where, y'know, Woody Allen plays his pimp.

Quite the cast in that one.

I've seen the trailer twice and I get a v awkward vibe from it. Maybe it's just me.

This has played down the street for two weeks and garnered respectable reviews and yet

it feels like a bridge too far, I dunno if I can see myself sitting down and trying to watch this

i wonder how many people are actually going to see this horribly-titled and horrible-sounding movie
― espring (amateurist), Wednesday, 7 May 2014 03:03 (eleven years ago)
also i'd characterize the reviews as lukewarm
A friend urged me to try The Night Of, an HBO thing where Turturro plays an ambulance-chasing lawyer (James Gandolfini was originally supposed to play the part--he's actually credited as a producer from beyond the grave). Started slow, but picking up around the halfway mark. I love how memorable TV people bounce from series to series: this one has Omar and Bodie from The Wire, Tom from House of Cards, and Janice from The Sopranos (John's cousin Aida, so put that one down to nepotism).

HBO def has an old school studio stable of actors at this point
― Οὖτις, Sunday, 5 August 2018 01:13 (six years ago)
I thought the first half of The Night Of was stronger, actually. It had a decent premise and a very strong cast and very good writing, but in the end not a particularly satisfiying story.
― chap, Sunday, 5 August 2018 01:20 (six years ago)
Turturro nailed it, obviously.
― chap, Sunday, 5 August 2018 01:21 (six years ago)
He was great in that
― rip van wanko, Sunday, 5 August 2018 02:02 (six years ago)
but in the end not a particularly satisfiying story
There were a couple of turns towards the end--especially with regards to Amara Karan's character--that seemed like a stretch. I really liked Roberta Flack at the end, even if Mad Men beat them to it by a couple of years.

saw To Live & Die In LA for the first time last week, he had the unreliable sleazeball thing down v early

See also The Color of Money from one year later. (His IMDB page says he turns up in Raging Bull--will have to look closely for that next time.)

i forgot that he made the jesus rolls a 'going places' adaptation ~ considering the source material is wildly culturally outdated & not super strong to start (nb ive only seen the orig film not read the book), the jesus rolls is not *that* bad i kinda enjoyed it
