[ADMIN] Annual ilXor.com pass-the-hat fundraising thread

As you probably know, ILX is run from our own server, which is hosted in Canada. We have to pay the hosting and bandwidth bill yearly, and it's almost due.

For the past few years we've raised it ourselves, using a donation box. If you're up for it, I suggest we try that again.

I'm still waiting for final word on this year's bill (I expect between $1k and $2k), but the deadline's imminent so I'm starting this now as a heads-up. I'll start the run sometime this week, probably Wednesday or Thursday, in the late evening UK time, on this thread, and will put a site-wide message up when it kicks off.

DISCLAIMER (prompted by a particularly odd email last time): By donating all you get is to contribute towards the hosting/bandwidth costs of ilxor.com. You don't get immunity from banecution, your own private borad or admin privs. You don't even get SBs deleted. You may get loving thanks; but you may also just get zung for not being able to let go.

Can we at least gain the power to post in two slightly different font sizes?

(another fund raising drive like the last two times is a great idea btw - iirc the target was reached in a couple of hours)

What about a permaban auction, one highest bidder gets to 51 a poster of their choice, another highest bidder gets to bring back Dom.

I'd like to know too, there's been several suggestions on the Ideas for ILX thread but no response from the great man.

i dont see why we should pony up when even basic maintenance like tuomas's 56325 requests for code change haven't yet been implemented

I'll let Keith speak for Keith, but as far as code goes I put RSS feeds out for testing today, so that's just 56324 to go. (Not that donating gets you any features either, mind.)

Some day, I will actually look at the code and attempt to contribute in a reasonable way in that capacity.

For now, I remain too annoyed with programming at work to take on anything outside of that context.

Whiney's comeback into the ilx fold was truly wonderful though.

Thought about skipping this year because I've chipped in the last two years (I think) and there are always people who say "dang, I missed it." But it wouldn't have felt right. #suckerrrrrr

I logged on, saw the banner announcing the collection plate was being passed and went to contribute. The moment after I contributed I came back to this thread and saw stet's post saying everything was over. You have to act quickly if you want to get all those great premiums!
