Been a while since I've tuned, so I'm wondering which matches are worth watching and which are good to take a piss to.

Search: Benoit, Angle, RVD. And the Hardy's in a PPV match.

Destroy: Anyone over 50 years, Hogan. Mick Foley too.

Leee, Thursday, 22 August 2002 22:56 (twenty-three years ago)

And what about the new guys (Brock Lesnar, esp)?

Leee, Thursday, 22 August 2002 22:57 (twenty-three years ago)

I just watched The Rock threaten to rip off one of his own testicles and spit it in his opponent's eye while ramming a boot up the opponent's ass. I was frightened (for him).

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 23 August 2002 00:27 (twenty-three years ago)

i was pretty lukewarm on brock lesnar at first. he was being pushed as a monster heel with the emphasis on 'monster': he's big, so he can drag the hardyz around the ring like rag dolls. big whoop. but the way his match against the rock (sunday!) has been built up is totally intriguing -- it'll be interesting to see how all the psychodrama that's been in the promos gets played out.

the hardyz, btw, have broken up. matt's now on smackdown.

search: rvd of course, booker t (best entrance music, too), goldust. i think their tag match against the unamericans (lance storm/christian -- he used to have the best entrance music btw) will be pretty excellent. benoit/gurrerro. the cruiserweight division has some high-flyers -- hurricane & shannon moore (shoutout to 3 count!), tajiri (TAJIRI!), jamie noble, billy kidman. rey mysterio has been 100% fun to watch. chris jericho is constantly buried but i still find him a totally compelling performer. and there are some decent women wrestlers too -- molly holly, current women's champ, is really excellent in the ring, and trish stratus has worked really hard to put up a good fight. seeing her in a bra and panties mud match the other night was actually a total bummer.

destroy: kevin nash, x-pac, big show -- the nwo revival was such a waste of time. i was so psyched to be at the broadcast where it all blew up in a flash of exploding knee. rikishi -- ugh, i just can't take the HUGE guys like him and show and mark henry. and triple h is just boring now. he showed up in the ring on raw this week in a CORAL POLO SHIRT and khakis! way to look intimidating before your big pay per view 'fight,' dude.

actually though i think that triple h/shawn michaels bit is going to be the weakest summerslam match -- you've got the tag match, edge vs. gurrero, rvd/benoit, angle/mysterio, rock/brock. hell, even test/undertaker looks like it will be ok.

ok hi, i just finished watching smackdown and i feel like a big nerd.

maura (maura), Friday, 23 August 2002 02:39 (twenty-three years ago)

maura do you like rasslin ironic like?

Josh (Josh), Friday, 23 August 2002 05:20 (twenty-three years ago)

Brock Lesner is rubbish. Kane's coming back, I bet it'll be without the mask.

jel -- (jel), Friday, 23 August 2002 07:51 (twenty-three years ago)

rvd versus Benoit????? wow, this may well get me watching again. Benoit is awesome.

chris (chris), Friday, 23 August 2002 09:14 (twenty-three years ago)

I am really missing this since ITV Digital vanished - I have been expecting to move imminently ever since, so haven't bothered getting a dish installed (i.e. for non-Brits: it's satellite only in the UK). I find it hard to believe that Triple H is not one of the highlights any more, however - I always thought he was their best in and out of the ring.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 23 August 2002 11:05 (twenty-three years ago)

well, triple h got injured twice -- he tore his quad, and then he reinjured i think his shoulder -- and since he recovered from the second injury he's been doing a lot of promoing-no-wrestling, which is just really boring when it takes up 35 minutes of screen time on a two hour program. and the fact that all this promoing is being used to lead up to a fight with shawn michaels, who hasn't been used well at all since he got back (he was the mouthpiece of the nwo after scott hall got fired) that's not going to be a match but a 'brawl' -- ugh.

and no josh my liking for wrestling's not ironic. come over on a thursday night sometime.

i think kane is going to come back with the mask ... have you seen the commercials they've been showing for his return? also the people who took his mask (he was unmasked right before he got injured actually) were the nwo.

maura (maura), Friday, 23 August 2002 11:41 (twenty-three years ago)

Brock Lesnar = Lex Luger 2k2. Let's break out the Lex Express for the funster.

Anyway, I'm on WWE boycot at the moment, until they stop going downhill rapidly. So that'll be... never, as they'll probably be bankrupt within two years.

Do yourself a favour, get some old EC-Dub and World Class videos off Ebay. The Freebirds fucking ruled...

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Friday, 23 August 2002 13:32 (twenty-three years ago)

Search: Goldust/BookerT, Hurricane and Molly Holly (best at acting amoungst the females).

destroy: RVD, the whole undertaker respect crap and whatever is left of Hulk and Flair. Its kinda sad that Flair taked a beating better than almost anyone else, he could probably make RVD look convincing.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Friday, 23 August 2002 13:50 (twenty-three years ago)

billy and chuck, accidental crusaders—from yesterday's new york times.

maura (maura), Monday, 26 August 2002 13:58 (twenty-three years ago)

one year passes...
Revive!

I managed to see half of the Tajiri/Mysterio match, and it was still gripping (grappling? hyuk hyuk).

The highlights from the 1-hour Angle/Brock Ironman was in itself dramatic.

Eddie Guerrero* + submission guy in Charlie Haas = PPV classic waiting to happen.

*everyone talks about how HHH juiced himself huge, but what about Eddie?

Sub topic: Is the Basham Bros./Shaniqua gimmick THE BEST THING EVER?

Or am I projecting again?

Leee (Leee), Friday, 26 September 2003 21:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Eddie Guerrero = best thing ever, obviously.

I'm still on ideological boycott of WWE anyway, until it stops being completely shit. My FWA and ROH tapes are keeping me sane at the moment, anyway.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Friday, 26 September 2003 21:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Honestly Dom, I was administering my own apathy boycott, but seeing the second half of Smackdown, it was surprisingly quality. I have almost no patience for promos that don't involve Angle-heel (he's a face again, meh), so I flipped over to CSI. But hell, the matches themselves have recovered DRAMA. These wrestlers know how to wrestle!

Also, did you know that Bradshaw got an American Idol-stylee makeover?!

Leee (Leee), Friday, 26 September 2003 21:45 (twenty-two years ago)

And Shaniqua is the sexiest wrestling momma ever.

Leee (Leee), Friday, 26 September 2003 21:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Yep,to go with his burgeoning career as a economic investment writer. On WWE.com, he claimed his new book was "better written than the bible".

Angle as a face is a really dumb idea, but they know that the only thing that'll help the future of the company that can draw straight away is another Wrestlemania Angle/Lesnar clash. And Lesnar has too little personality to play a face, so our boy Kurt has to come in to work as the face.

The roster has some talented workers on it, no doubt, but there's too many green workers, past it workers, or people who really should have given up three years ago (hey Kidman!)

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Friday, 26 September 2003 21:50 (twenty-two years ago)

And Shaniqua is the sexiest wrestling momma ever.

Ahem, Leia Meow?

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Friday, 26 September 2003 21:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Ok, WWE/F chick then. But still, Shaniqua fits in with my domination fantasies to a T-Bar.

Leee (Leee), Friday, 26 September 2003 21:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Actually, if we use this thread as a wrestling discussion catchall, former ECW tag team champion Anthony "Pitbull #1" Durante has committed suicide aged 36.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Friday, 26 September 2003 23:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Actually, he was Pitbull #2...Gary Wolfe was Pitbull #1 (famout for the ECW angle where he suffered spinal damage by DDT and had Shane Douglas shake his halo, starting a near riot).

I've been buying FMW tapes (they're on sale at your local FYE for $5 a pop...I bought 6) and watching a 20 hour DVD boxed set of MMA fighting to keep myself grounded. I can't watch the WWE style of wrestling, nor accept the current angles (Steph vs. Vince? horrid). NWA hasn't been to bad for the X Division, and MLW and ROH are pretty decent on the rare occasions I can get ahold of anything of theirs. Shit, I've been so desperate, those bargain $10 XPW DVDs are looking good.

Alan Conceicao, Saturday, 27 September 2003 01:00 (twenty-two years ago)

(I knew I was going to get my Pitbulls confused).

No matter how bad things are, XPW is never is the answer.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Saturday, 27 September 2003 09:17 (twenty-two years ago)

It's quite obvious what wrestling is missing, anyway:
