SBing crosby (Neanderthal), Thursday, 23 June 2011 22:00 (fourteen years ago)

I will admit to not having seen Team America, so I won't vote until I have, but as of right now, Cannibal is the clear frontrunner.

SBing crosby (Neanderthal), Thursday, 23 June 2011 22:01 (fourteen years ago)

there is only film here that contains the song Fuck You, Uncle Fucker so that one

winoa ryder sexes creatures of the night (Shakey Mo Collier), Thursday, 23 June 2011 22:02 (fourteen years ago)

I made the mistake of taking my parents to see that one. well...my dad liked it at least.

SBing crosby (Neanderthal), Thursday, 23 June 2011 22:03 (fourteen years ago)

they had to have written at least some of "Baseketball"

frogbs, Thursday, 23 June 2011 22:04 (fourteen years ago)

if they did, they weren't credited

SBing crosby (Neanderthal), Thursday, 23 June 2011 22:05 (fourteen years ago)

tbh it pretty clearly has Zucker's stamp all over it too...

SBing crosby (Neanderthal), Thursday, 23 June 2011 22:05 (fourteen years ago)

BASEketball was gr8, fuck the critics.

SBing crosby (Neanderthal), Thursday, 23 June 2011 22:06 (fourteen years ago)

there was a musical part in there that they had to have been involved with

frogbs, Thursday, 23 June 2011 22:07 (fourteen years ago)

well the music in the car itself was definitely their creation but who knows if they actually wrote the lyrics

SBing crosby (Neanderthal), Thursday, 23 June 2011 22:08 (fourteen years ago)

which i think is pretty underrated in their work. there's a scene in orgazmo where they get in the car to go chase down the bad guys and Choda Boy puts on some "action music" - but before that you can hear a snippet of the religious tape that he was listening to before, and it's hilarious. something like "he gave his life for your sins/he didn't have to do that"

frogbs, Thursday, 23 June 2011 22:08 (fourteen years ago)

i really can't decide between Cannibal and Orgazmo. their later films were great too but they went downhill once they stopped using that guy who played the Indian Chief/Sushi Bar Owner!

frogbs, Thursday, 23 June 2011 22:11 (fourteen years ago)

srsly challopy not to vote south park imo

Worst 'i preferred their earlier stuff ya?' ever

Chunks on strippers is the game of my frog (darraghmac), Thursday, 23 June 2011 22:14 (fourteen years ago)

man Cannibal: The Musical is gold dawg

SBing crosby (Neanderthal), Thursday, 23 June 2011 22:15 (fourteen years ago)

yeah that's not to denigrate the earlier stuff, but they're still patchy by comparison, sp:tm is a masterpiece

Chunks on strippers is the game of my frog (darraghmac), Thursday, 23 June 2011 22:16 (fourteen years ago)

Cannibal will always be my favorite for both its intentional and unintentional sloppiness/ridiculousness. I love South Park as well tho.

SBing crosby (Neanderthal), Thursday, 23 June 2011 22:19 (fourteen years ago)

Worst 'i preferred their earlier stuff ya?' ever

you're nuts. i agree they're somewhat patchy but those movies are untouchable. i can literally list 100 worse examples than this.

frogbs, Thursday, 23 June 2011 22:19 (fourteen years ago)

you dont have the time tbph

Chunks on strippers is the game of my frog (darraghmac), Thursday, 23 June 2011 22:23 (fourteen years ago)

hahahahaha OUCH

SBing crosby (Neanderthal), Thursday, 23 June 2011 22:23 (fourteen years ago)

but yeah ok there are maybe worse examples, but the disparity of quality and consistency btwn sp:tm and everything else here is serious

Chunks on strippers is the game of my frog (darraghmac), Thursday, 23 June 2011 22:27 (fourteen years ago)

South Park easily, but Cannibal is pretty great.

EZ Snappin, Thursday, 23 June 2011 22:28 (fourteen years ago)

"We are....INDIANS!"

SBing crosby (Neanderthal), Thursday, 23 June 2011 22:28 (fourteen years ago)

my favorite part of South Park is still where Conan jumps from the building and smashes the car below and the dude comes over and quietly turns the alarm off and walks away...

SBing crosby (Neanderthal), Thursday, 23 June 2011 22:29 (fourteen years ago)

in terms of 'which film had the most great moments', it would have to be orgazmo. obviously he's not really an actor but Trey Parker played that character so damn well. "Jesus!!" "Where?!"

frogbs, Thursday, 23 June 2011 22:30 (fourteen years ago)

the part where they have the tapdance style fart-off always kills me

little dieter wants to FUCK (Princess TamTam), Thursday, 23 June 2011 22:31 (fourteen years ago)

cannibal forever. although, i tried to watch it with my girlfriend and only then realized that it kinda takes awhile to get going and has some long laugh-free stretches. it's part of the charm, but not for everyone i guess.

hardcore oatmeal (Jordan), Thursday, 23 June 2011 22:33 (fourteen years ago)

orgazmo's great but when i try to buy it from amazon the case arrives empty, has hapoened twice.

Maybe they think it's a porno?

Chunks on strippers is the game of my frog (darraghmac), Thursday, 23 June 2011 22:33 (fourteen years ago)

i dunno - i'll always remember watching it on HBO, when my dad (who doesn't really like comedies) fell asleep on the couch and I honestly thought for a couple of minutes that it was an actual porn (i came in at one of the beginning scenes). the movie blew my mind

frogbs, Thursday, 23 June 2011 22:37 (fourteen years ago)

the disc is invisible xpost

SBing crosby (Neanderthal), Thursday, 23 June 2011 22:37 (fourteen years ago)

ah shit i've thrown two of em out so

Chunks on strippers is the game of my frog (darraghmac), Thursday, 23 June 2011 22:39 (fourteen years ago)

Just heard the soundtrack to their musical yesterday. It's pretty good! Not as revelatory or revolutionary as the South Park flick, but still funny.

There's an interesting contrast to them doing their attempts at modern overwrought Broadway blockbuster showtunes from the fake "Les Mis" one in SP(at the time, they fully copped to going to see it and crying) to when they got their chance to do an actual production 11 years later.

Who woulda thunk it that under everything that's gone into their work is the beating heart of wanna-be musical theater majors.

Crazed Mister Handy (kingfish), Thursday, 23 June 2011 22:46 (fourteen years ago)

yea I mean the Rolling Stone interview with them around the time South Park was just breaking, they discussed their musical background and their theatrical aspirations so it's no surprise that they jumped at the chance when they eventually got it.

I really do want to make it out to Book of Mormon.

SBing crosby (Neanderthal), Thursday, 23 June 2011 22:47 (fourteen years ago)

team america. laughed harder at that than i did any of the others

dell (del), Thursday, 23 June 2011 22:54 (fourteen years ago)

the difference between their earlier and later work is that they were a lot more goofy and less cynical, they're good both ways but I prefer the absurdist humor that doesn't feel like it needs to attack everything

frogbs, Thursday, 23 June 2011 23:06 (fourteen years ago)

BASEketball was gr8, fuck the critics.

Yeah it's just dumb fun man.

But voted for Bigger Longer.

The Hetfieldification of the Menopausal Male (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Friday, 24 June 2011 05:14 (fourteen years ago)

Cannibal and Team America pretty awesome

Baseketball who gives a fuck, its fine, whatever

Orgazmo was FUCKING TERRIBLE

South Park: blah blah blah is completely untouchable and by far the best

lemon kerrang! (jjjusten), Friday, 24 June 2011 07:42 (fourteen years ago)

i always remember 'team america' as being awesome but it's really got some long stretches where 'hey these are puppets you're watching' is literally the only discernable joke.

(The Other) J.D. (J.D.), Friday, 24 June 2011 08:15 (fourteen years ago)

The only thing I remember about Cannibal the Musical was when they got quite obviously Chinese people to play the Indians.

the Sandalled Vandal (dog latin), Friday, 24 June 2011 10:05 (fourteen years ago)

Have only seen the last three on this list, but as great as Team America is, I have to give it to South Park. It's so rare to go into a movie and be utterly floored by how daring, shocking, hilarious and well-constructed it is. At the time I saw it, I thought, "If these guys never do anything ever again, this film will remain a cult favorite forever." Who would have imagined the show would still be on the air 12 years later?!

My wife and I still use "the sound of a dying giraffe" to alert each other to things.

Whitey G. Bulgergarten (Phil D.), Friday, 24 June 2011 12:44 (fourteen years ago)

xp: Japanese

kkvgz, Friday, 24 June 2011 12:49 (fourteen years ago)

Opening night of Bigger, Longer, Uncut was the first time I ever saw/heard someone talking on a cellphone during a movie. The guy was sitting one row below me and when I bit into my hot dog, the juice squirted out one end and got in his hair. He didn't notice, but I considered us evened up.

kkvgz, Friday, 24 June 2011 12:53 (fourteen years ago)

This is Cannibal, for me.

kkvgz, Friday, 24 June 2011 12:54 (fourteen years ago)

Although, like, I watched it a few months ago with my wife ("you've gotta see this, honey - it's hilarious!") and I dunno, something about the pacing? The songs are phenomenal though.

kkvgz, Friday, 24 June 2011 12:55 (fourteen years ago)

Have only seen Southpark and Team America

Liked both but my gut tells me to go w/ TA.

That could be because for some inexplicable reason I've had the following stuck in my head all week.

\(^o\) (/o^)/ (ENBB), Friday, 24 June 2011 14:19 (fourteen years ago)

Xpost The pacing's weird, which is why my friends didn't like it. Parker/Stone are fully aware of their failures on the director's commentary - one of em quips "ahh great, open the movie up with an extremely boring conversation"!

I love how ridiculous it gets though. "Hey look, guys. Abe Lincoln."

SBing crosby (Neanderthal), Friday, 24 June 2011 14:22 (fourteen years ago)

I have never laughed in a movie theater as hard as I laughed at the South Park movie. I still play the soundtrack from time to time.

chupacabra - a delicious burrito (DJP), Friday, 24 June 2011 14:28 (fourteen years ago)

like Bigger, Longer, Uncut way more than any of these (or for that matter almost any episode of South Park)

really bizarre to see people talk about how "underrated" the songwriting in their work is after they've won Tonys and been nominated for an Oscar for it

some dude, Friday, 24 June 2011 14:34 (fourteen years ago)

Kim Jong Il's Panthers almost swayed me to Team America, but it has to be South Park.

Gukbe, Friday, 24 June 2011 14:36 (fourteen years ago)

x-post - I had a mixtape a friend made me in my car for years that had "Big Gay Al" on it. I used to sing along to that at full vol. There's this one part where it goes "Big Gay Al says don't ask don't tell. 'Skittles!'". I mean - that doesn't make any sense but I used to lose my shit at that part.

\(^o\) (/o^)/ (ENBB), Friday, 24 June 2011 14:36 (fourteen years ago)

Should have taken SP out of the poll, kind of makes it a walk

Nhex, Friday, 24 June 2011 14:37 (fourteen years ago)

kinda wonder who would between Parker/Stone and Seth MacFarlane in a "who has more musical talent" type poll but maybe that would be a bit one sided around here?

some dude, Friday, 24 June 2011 14:37 (fourteen years ago)

lol the panthers

I should watch southpark again. I haven't seen that at least - oh idk - a very long time.

Satan, your ass is gigantic and red. Who am I going to pretend you are, Liza Minelli?

As my friend Tom can say, when that moment arrived first time we saw it I completely lost it.

this is a pretty legit question actually, I'm sure Parker/Stone would win though because MacFarlane is so bad in so many other areas and it's hard not to be baised. Parker's voice is so naturally funny that I can't see him doing anything straight but Macfarlane probably could.

frogbs, Friday, 24 June 2011 14:43 (fourteen years ago)

I still listen to the SP soundtrack, too. Every single song works as both a parody and a great example of the thing being parodied.

It was funny, though, when I went to see it the first time, the audience CLEARLY didn't expect a full-fledged movie musical, and by the time the movie got to Satan's big show-stopper "Up There," people were audibly groaning. All I could think was, "You people are nuts. This is amazing."

Now that I think about it, I still use "buns-hole" from the Mr. Mackey song, too.

xp - yeah a lot of people saw the musical numbers as "filler", which is ridiculous. they clearly labored pretty hard on those.

frogbs, Friday, 24 June 2011 14:49 (fourteen years ago)

really? i have never ever heard anyone refer to the music as filler in that movie

some dude, Friday, 24 June 2011 14:50 (fourteen years ago)

I've encountered people who went to "Chicago" got mad about all of the music in the movie so I can totally believe frogbs here

eight months pass...

I just rewatched the first three and kinda wish I had voted for South Park now. I feel like Cannibal was funnier to me on the first watch but a lot of that humor was kind of incidental to being such a crappy/amateur production. Orgazmo is still great and one of the funniest movies ever, but I dunno, I feel like SP upped the game for the whole TV-show-becomes-movie thing, all those musical numbers were amazing, and it never had the "4 episodes = 1 movie" feel like the Simpsons one did.

I saw Baseketball while attending high school in the south and my friend completely flipped the fuck out and started yelling in the theater when Matt & Trey kissed
