if you want my call: a deceased sibling is still your sibling -- like if your only brother passes away you don't become an only child

step siblings and half siblings are tough to call, should probably be left to the individual -- like if you really consider them a sibling, lived with or grew up with them, etc.

Okay, I've gone for 'one older brother' though I additionally have an older step-brother who I often just refer to as 'my brother'. It was actually quite a difficult decision to make.

yeah i realize i didn't take into account gray areas very much w/ the poll options -- but again i figure it's probably best for people to just make the call for themselves if they consider a half/step/etc. a sibling.

like i very rarely think about the fact that i had a step sister for nearly half my life, because i never lived with her or spent a lot of time around her

one christmas my youngest brother was complaining about how people ridiculed country music even though some of it was very good and then a couple of days later someone gave him a cmt cap and then the next day we were driving to town and in the car i asked him sternly why he wasn't wearing it and he said he didn't feel like it so i called him the coward of the county.

i object to that term too, unless they're really short. i have one sister – by adoption - but i'll defy anybody to discount her as my sister.

I think it depends on the situation

my gf has half-siblings who were much much older / grew up as another family. it'd be strange if they called each other sister. but my mother's little (half) brother grew up with her and her sister and the fact that he's a half-brother almost never comes up...never thought of him as a half-uncle.

Whenever my half-brother said something smart-aleck back when he was a teenager, I'd say, "You see, that's the Yankee in ya mouthing off."

Either the eldest of 2 or the eldest of 5 depending on the half-sibling interpretation. I'm 10-15 years older than the 3 half-siblings and I don't really have any relationship with them or my dad, so I'd probably go with 1 sibling.

i'm glad pleasant plains said i'm not mean, because i'm really not, but my big sister and my mother (who is also a big sister) have got an arsenal of big sister tricks that is mind-boggling, including a lightning swift shift from bully to victim that is plain ridiculous once you figure it out.
