worst place youve drank

It had torn and filthy carpets, blue walls that were black in places, stale crisps and only two kinds of booze on tap. it looked like the people who were there had never left. i was scowled at when i came in and during my pint and after my pint. the washrooms well the washrooms had vomit in the urnial and a broken toilet and smelled like 10000 lads had done their business and never cleaned up.

it was the springbok in white city, london and i went there for an adventure.

Ess Kay (esskay), Saturday, 24 August 2002 18:01 (twenty-three years ago)

hmm now that would have to be chicks in port chalmers. i don't think anyone told the lads there that women got the vote in 1893.

anthony, that sounds like the majority of brit pubs to me. for myself, i think possibly the New Cross Venue, but when i suggest it felt like being in dusseldorf in '82 that makes it sound kinda cool. it wasn't. the good mixer in camden is terrible, like a huddersfield youth club circa 87. all those london bars that look like furniture exhibition centres are awful too. how to suck enjoyment out of socialising, expertise level.

Somehow the name alone sounds suspect.

The Turk's Head on the High Street in Exeter. We went there purely for an adventure, because (as students) we'd been told to avoid it at all cost. It was horrible - people staring at you as you went in, squaddies playing pool and (honest to god) saying "I've 'ad 'er" as women went past, general feeling that someone was about to kick your head in. And this was on a Saturday afternoon! I've never drunk a pint so quickly in all my life.

Nowhere I've ever been in London has scared me as much as that did.

A park, the shower.

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 25 August 2002 10:24 (twenty-three years ago)

Gareth is very OTM here. Some of the dogier pubs in run down areas of Chesterfield where we used to play pool or darts were bloody awful though, especially some of the ones on Derby Road.

chris (chris), Sunday, 25 August 2002 10:25 (twenty-three years ago)

A pub in Stornoway on a Sunday (in the land of temperance and worship)lunchtime with some of the most psychotic looking people I've ever seen. I'll always remember this guy with a bleeding gash on his forehead.

Close second a pub in Niddrie (housing estate in Edinburgh) where the locals were either waiting to do some dodgy deal or failing that do us over.

Oh god; in a fucking trailer in a trailer park, with complete retard friend-of-friends. It was one of those situations where you're stuck somewhere without a ride and no way to get ahold of any. What a nightmare.

Billy, you're either a very brave or very reckless man.

Ray M (rdmanston), Monday, 26 August 2002 10:37 (twenty-three years ago)

That Chicks place in Port Chalmers was kind of funny, but I wouldn't want to be a regular. Also I wasn't the one buying so I missed out on getting an impression of the staff. But mainly various parks in various gloomy mental states.

What is a verruca (and can we drink it)?

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 26 August 2002 11:28 (twenty-three years ago)

Close tie between the Seahorse in Halifax (oldest bar in town) which was a basement to an anceint building. Its a tourist trap of sorts cause the walls could fall in at any second trapping you down there. Otherwise some stupid bar on Jacksons Point (Crows Nest?), luckily I was with the locals who jumped over the patio railings a couple of times to just chase people around who they didnt recognize.
