i hate it when rats eat my bushels (Shakey Mo Collier), Wednesday, 13 July 2011 22:29 (thirteen years ago)

I like my water water-flavored

iatee, Wednesday, 13 July 2011 22:30 (thirteen years ago)

well i think "w/ ice" is inherent

gucci mande (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 13 July 2011 22:30 (thirteen years ago)

unless you order more ice, then go w/ other

gucci mande (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 13 July 2011 22:30 (thirteen years ago)

i've never been a lemon person but recently i've been loving the taste of water + a squeeze of lemon

gucci mande (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 13 July 2011 22:30 (thirteen years ago)

i should say i've never been a lemon WITH WATER person -- always been a lemon person, in general

gucci mande (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 13 July 2011 22:31 (thirteen years ago)

drinking plain, cold, unadorned water reminds us of where we all come from. it's possibly life's purest joy. no need to accessorize it. http://i.imgur.com/zi7hd.gif

a restaurant i used to like put slices of cucumber in the water. it was delicious.

horseshoe, Wednesday, 13 July 2011 22:32 (thirteen years ago)

who was it on top chef that got kicked off iirc partly bcuz of a failed experiment w/ cucumber water

gucci mande (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 13 July 2011 22:33 (thirteen years ago)

not that it doesn't sound good

gucci mande (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 13 July 2011 22:33 (thirteen years ago)

ooh i have a lemon in the fridge! i always forget about the lemon-water option. i'm a fan of regular water (brita-ized), no ice
xp
yes! cucumbers! celery! refreshing

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Wednesday, 13 July 2011 22:33 (thirteen years ago)

i was gonna say cucumber

℗⎣▲✘ (ico), Wednesday, 13 July 2011 22:34 (thirteen years ago)

I would send back cucumber water. :(

Like lemon. Like sparkling even more! Save it up for business lunches, when someone else is paying the bill for ridic 10$ bottles of water.

℗⎣▲✘ (ico), Wednesday, 13 July 2011 22:39 (thirteen years ago)

lemon+water sounds better in theory than practice ime. it's great with sparkling water tho.

Aglet, Wednesday, 13 July 2011 22:50 (thirteen years ago)

LIMEZ imo

mississippi john hurt, but alabama john feeling okay (m bison), Wednesday, 13 July 2011 22:51 (thirteen years ago)

it's all good. Lime goes best w/sparkling water, imo.

am I diversified? (blank), Wednesday, 13 July 2011 22:54 (thirteen years ago)

water must come fortified with plenty of nice, fresh ice. if this is impossible, it should at the very least icelessly arrive extremely cold. neither the water nor its ice may ever taste in the least of chlorine or soap or whatever other adulterating have you. i should never have to ask for water or even approve its delivery. the glass should magically appear a minute or two after i sit down and refill itself invisibly whenever its contents dip precipitiously. "invisibly" is the most important word in the preceding sentence.

a slice of lemon is not essential but would be nice.

Little GTFO (contenderizer), Wednesday, 13 July 2011 22:58 (thirteen years ago)

OTM. lemon in unsparkling water.

Little GTFO (contenderizer), Wednesday, 13 July 2011 22:59 (thirteen years ago)

Plain? I prefer "Original."

Evan, Wednesday, 13 July 2011 23:01 (thirteen years ago)

I like mine without anything in it, especially not ice. it should be room temperature and that's it.

Jibe, Wednesday, 13 July 2011 23:29 (thirteen years ago)

cucumber water is delish & refreshing! some place i went to recently had a cucumber mint lemonade that i loved -- i know it sounds iffy but it tasted great.

avenged benfolds (get bent), Wednesday, 13 July 2011 23:30 (thirteen years ago)

i would drink that!

at home i never usually adorn water with anything but ice but i enjoy lemon water at restaurants. i never specifically ask for it tho

jesus and mary chapin carpenter (donna rouge), Wednesday, 13 July 2011 23:32 (thirteen years ago)

unless I'm at a dump or someone's house or something, water w/o ice is absolutely unacceptable

am I diversified? (blank), Wednesday, 13 July 2011 23:35 (thirteen years ago)

i really don't get why water without ice is unacceptable. it tastes better without ice and you know you won't get brain freeze. maybe i just get brain freeze really easily, i dunno.

Jibe, Wednesday, 13 July 2011 23:49 (thirteen years ago)

I'm not a dog dammit, gimme ice. Also, no straws. so unnecessary

am I diversified? (blank), Wednesday, 13 July 2011 23:51 (thirteen years ago)

It's more "refreshing" w/ice to me, but that's probably just bs

am I diversified? (blank), Wednesday, 13 July 2011 23:52 (thirteen years ago)

was it square one?? so good! auntie ems has cucumber water too. its the best!! very refereshing!

When allegedly nice restaurants bring me a straw with my water or tea or soda, my first thought is "what, aren't your glasses clean?"

Prefer my water with ice, btw, but it's not a huge deal. I don't drink much of it anyway.

Josef K-Doe (WmC), Wednesday, 13 July 2011 23:57 (thirteen years ago)

it wasn't square one or auntie em's; it might have been pitfire pizza.

this is a persian (thus valley) thing, i think? it is super amazing – my friend's mom used to have a pot of water w/ cucumber, rose hips, and mint floating in it that was goddamned brilliant

remy bean, Thursday, 14 July 2011 00:19 (thirteen years ago)

regular/plain water

don't get the point of a lemon... it adds nothing, besides as a garnish I guess. Water with a bit of lemon in it tastes bitter, like ultra diluted lemonade or something... gross imo.

i once ran audio for a dylan show, and his rider specified the water be kept at a certain temperature, flavored with meyer lemon (???) and served in a heavy drinking glass. promoter didn't bother to cross that shit out, so on the day of the show one of my little tech dudes had to run all the fucking place around upstate NY trying to find meyer lemon to squeeze so the big man could sing

i have heard this advice from actual scientists i know!

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Thursday, 14 July 2011 00:28 (thirteen years ago)

lemon is "cleansing"

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Thursday, 14 July 2011 00:28 (thirteen years ago)

it's also astringent & acidic & actually not something you should be having when you're singing

love in a grain elevator (underrated aerosmith bootlegs I have owned), Thursday, 14 July 2011 00:32 (thirteen years ago)

i like water with lemon ok (protip for at least one person itt--you have to squeeze the lemon into the water) but it never quenches as well as the straight up version.

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Thursday, 14 July 2011 00:33 (thirteen years ago)

call all destroyer, Thursday, 14 July 2011 00:34 (thirteen years ago)

When I was sick a few years ago, I started going to this lunch place around the corner from work. Since anything cold gave me these weird throat-clenching side effects, I always asked the waitress there for water with no ice.

I'm all better and everything, but each time I go there, that waitress still serves me water with no ice, even on days like this week when it's 99º outside. I never told her why and now after four years, it would feel just kinda awkward to explain it all for her.

And besides, you get ripped off when you get the ice. You could be having 200% more beverage with your meal.

Pleasant Plains, Thursday, 14 July 2011 00:34 (thirteen years ago)

the most recent scientist friend to tell me about the icy water = bad issue also told me that Vitamin Water is bs because vitamins are rendered inert or at least their potency is extremely diminished because of light damage through the clear container!
i said, but i like the pomegranate vitamin water zero sometimes when it is hot out. but i was still kinda sad about this revelation :(

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Thursday, 14 July 2011 00:38 (thirteen years ago)

vitamin water is just gatorade with a b.a.

I know people who order their sodas no ice so they won't get "ripped off" by having a soda that's cold instead of one that's totally fucking disgusting but which there's more of

love in a grain elevator (underrated aerosmith bootlegs I have owned), Thursday, 14 July 2011 00:48 (thirteen years ago)

I dont require ice in my water tho chilled water would be nice. Just leave a large (1.5L) bottle full of cold water on the table and let me refill it when needed, thats all I ask. No ice though - my poor teeth cant handle ice.

when i worked food service, we had a lot of people who wanted (a) ice water and nothing else (b) soda with little or no ice. that meant i had to haul ass to the ice machine several times *and* haul ass to change out the soda bibs several times. more work for me, but congrats on getting something free and sticking it to the man, bucko.

I honestly don't like water in my Coke! I even drink warm cans around the house.

My favorite honest-to-god drink in the world is flat room-temperture Sprite.

YEah, just imagining drinking soda from a red cup like that and you know it's Pepsi.

Pleasant Plains, Thursday, 14 July 2011 02:26 (thirteen years ago)

i recently soda of some nameless sort from such a cup. it was large and pebbly red, as described, and the contents tasted mostly of what they should, of nameless sweet nothing. but the cup was sticky, and so was the table. the table remained sticky no matter how many napkins i spent trying to to destick it, as it though it were fashioned from ancient mucilage. it held the napkin i interposed between poles of stickiness with tearing force. this was in hawaii, on a slow weekday afternoon, on a rattan porch that smelled of stale beer. no part of this picture seems inappropriate in retrospect.

Little GTFO (contenderizer), Thursday, 14 July 2011 05:20 (thirteen years ago)

Sometimes, grotty stickiness is as it should be, like when your feet stick to the carpet in the pub at a punk gig.

another good thing about cuke-water is that it looks really beautiful, in a jug, if you've sorta spiral-sliced the cucumbers, looks in-fact-now-i've-seen-it sort of like the twirling strands of terrence malick's lumia.

thought this thread was going to be re: the bigger water in restaurants topic of where automatically gives you some upon entering, which is: america, and the best thing about america, but not the rest of the world so much.

Genre Fiction › Men's Adventure (schlump), Thursday, 14 July 2011 09:15 (thirteen years ago)

I sometimes order soda with no ice *and* water with loads of ice from fast food take-outs, if only to do this:

1. Drink the miniscule amount of water out of the ice water, leaving ice cubes.
2. Introduce warm soda to ice cubes
3. Cold soda!
4. Two or three refills of ice cube cup with aforementioned soda.
