FAP Auckland...

The second in the grand trilogy. Most of the Auckland ILX folks I know of have been chatting in e-mail about this, but should there be others we're not aware of lurking on the boards -- right now I'm around all day on Sept. 4th and will be there again on the 14th and 15th, leaving in the late afternoon from the airport back to LA. Thoughts, planning, panicking etc. to be posted here!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 26 August 2002 00:52 (twenty-three years ago)

So many FAPs clocking up figures

naked as sin, Monday, 26 August 2002 01:15 (twenty-three years ago)

Yup.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 26 August 2002 01:17 (twenty-three years ago)

Not unfortunately I'll be spending my mid-semester break in Wellington, home of our Parliament and... well I'm sure there's something else there.

B:Rad (Brad), Monday, 26 August 2002 02:12 (twenty-three years ago)

Well I'm up for either date as far as I can see, tho I'm supposed to be going on a trip at one end of the holidays starting on the 2nd, ending 2 weeks later... I guess I'll aim at whatever gets decided by this thread.

Andrew Thames, Monday, 26 August 2002 03:28 (twenty-three years ago)

The 4th is a Wednesday, and I would be keen keen keen to unwind after an enervating Saturday at work, but I don't know what everyone else's say on the matter is.

Damian (Damian), Monday, 26 August 2002 08:17 (twenty-three years ago)

Definately able to make 14th/15th, & hopefully be back in time for the 4th. Er um is anyone travelling to Auckland from Hamiltron or etc etc South-Of-The-Bombay-Hills?

Ess Kay (esskay), Tuesday, 27 August 2002 07:33 (twenty-three years ago)

Er um is anyone travelling to Auckland from Hamiltron or etc etc South-Of-The-Bombay-Hills?

Yup, me. But i'm bussing it, if that's what you were gonna ask next. Coming soon to an ILX near you, Fancy A Commute On Public Transport...

petra jane (petra jane), Tuesday, 27 August 2002 08:46 (twenty-three years ago)

Er um is anyone travelling to Auckland from Hamiltron or etc etc South-Of-The-Bombay-Hills?

I may be able to help, still undecided- its a long way from Gisborne and well... I dont know any of you. Im presuming that a big night is planned Sat? Organised anything yet Auckland people?

Ill knock off work early Friday afternoon and cruise up if I do go. Mail me if you cannot face the bus anyone as I have plenty of room- good ol kingswood.

Kiwi, Tuesday, 27 August 2002 09:37 (twenty-three years ago)

I guess the whole idea of Saturday the 14th was one huge sendoff for me, since it's the last night I'll be in NZ before going home. The 4th is just happy fun around Auckland's record stores and the like. ;-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 27 August 2002 11:10 (twenty-three years ago)

Ned you are going to become a Bukowski-like alkie with all these FAPs...

Nicole (Nicole), Tuesday, 27 August 2002 11:47 (twenty-three years ago)

I can't believe you people.

webber (webber), Tuesday, 27 August 2002 12:20 (twenty-three years ago)

Ned you are going to become a Bukowski-like alkie with all these FAPs...

So long as it doesn't mean I end up looking like Mickey Rourke.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 27 August 2002 13:26 (twenty-three years ago)

Ned, i should warn you, do you really want to drink with people like these...?

In October I meet up with Dan, who makes all this seem like amateur fumbling when it comes to the joys of bad taste. I hold no fear over the Auckland folks. ;-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 27 August 2002 13:28 (twenty-three years ago)

lololololololol!

di smith (lucylurex), Tuesday, 27 August 2002 20:39 (twenty-three years ago)

Ouch. It seems that FAP may refer to a variety of liquids, but a pint of...

...which makes me think, is it reasonable for a recovering teenage alchoholic presently living in Auckland to FAP?

debaser, Wednesday, 28 August 2002 03:46 (twenty-three years ago)

So long as she's a nice, god-fearing pint from a stable home you can fancy it all you please.

[uh, sorry...that is, yess more drinking buddies is always a good thing]

petra jane (petra jane), Wednesday, 28 August 2002 06:03 (twenty-three years ago)

I can't get to Auckland either time. Sorry, it would have been nice to meet you. But you should come to Wanganui. It's not as far away as Gisborne! (Hmmm - idea for a new town slogan?) and kind of on the way to Wellington!

isadora, Thursday, 29 August 2002 21:32 (twenty-three years ago)

How about a Hamilton FAP? it's in the middle of nowhere everything and the pubs have amusing mock-lesbians in abundance! Also, i am here and bored and stuff.

petra jane (petra jane), Thursday, 29 August 2002 21:40 (twenty-three years ago)

Ok P I'll come down next week. Ned, see you on the 14th! And MAYBE the 4th, I'm not sure yet. Any suggestions on the venue? Do we want cheap or nice? Galbraiths is good for the "nice" thing, tho it's a little "ye olde english" quaint. "Cheap", the Pinnacle Club! Old man pub styles.

Andrew Thames, Thursday, 29 August 2002 22:04 (twenty-three years ago)

Whats a FAP? STOP LAUGHING AT ME!

I live in Auckland but I dont know what a FAP is.... ummm....

gazza, Friday, 30 August 2002 08:46 (twenty-three years ago)

This FAP is on the day after my birthday, and there's a gig the day before jeezus! I'm hungry.

Elisabeth, Friday, 30 August 2002 11:28 (twenty-three years ago)

(New answers!)
Looks like I'll be in Dunedin for another week or so, but might be up in Auckland by the 14th, urk.

Ess Kay (esskay), Monday, 2 September 2002 04:51 (twenty-three years ago)

Note to self - read FAQ first.
Ironically I was rather drunk at the time.

gazza, Monday, 2 September 2002 09:14 (twenty-three years ago)

so what's happening on the 4th?

Elisabeth, Tuesday, 3 September 2002 08:49 (twenty-three years ago)

You and I and Alex and Damian and Angeline are all meeting up. :-) Damian sez he'll IM you in a sec with details.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 3 September 2002 09:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i'm arriving @ thee Auckland airport around 4:30pm. where will you mentalists be by them? is it possible to walk/hitchhike from the airport to the town? does anyone have a couch/closet I can crash in?

(hee & petra a Hamiltron fap is URGENT & KEY!)

Ess Kay (esskay), Friday, 6 September 2002 14:58 (twenty-three years ago)

(er 4:30pm on the 14th, obv. sorry!)

Ess Kay (esskay), Friday, 6 September 2002 14:58 (twenty-three years ago)

What's happening with the FAP? Has anyone decided a pub and a time yet?

0 <- loop ........................ me -> x

petra jane (petra jane), Saturday, 7 September 2002 02:59 (twenty-three years ago)

I think Damian suggested the Shakespeare? He said he would get a hold of folks and sort it out one way or another...

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 7 September 2002 06:03 (twenty-three years ago)

I didn't suggest it :), I think Elisabeth might have mentioned the Shakespeare, but I'll get on the case.

Damian (Damian), Sunday, 8 September 2002 07:07 (twenty-three years ago)

How's the plotting + scheming in the North?

Ess Kay (esskay), Tuesday, 10 September 2002 04:05 (twenty-three years ago)

How about we just make it the Shakespeare? Ess Kay, can you afford the airport/town bus? I'm presuming there still is one.

Andrew Thames, Tuesday, 10 September 2002 04:10 (twenty-three years ago)

Which suburb/district/etc is the Shakespeare in? Is it walk/run-able from the airport? Otherwise I'll hitchhike etc.
(er, and tentatively - anyone have a couch/closet/chair I can collapse in?)

Ess Kay (esskay), Tuesday, 10 September 2002 09:01 (twenty-three years ago)

It's Auckland - NOTHING'S really walkable from the airport. I suspect it's actually closer to downtown Hamilton than downtown Auckland.

Yeah, where is this Shakespeare? Is it central, or on one of the major bus routes? Also, late afternoon, evening or nighttime FAP?

petra jane (petra jane), Tuesday, 10 September 2002 09:49 (twenty-three years ago)

I don't know where it is either, and the thing is I won't be able to rock up until after I finish work, so all I can see myself doing is turning up with the party in swing, so to speak. I can contact the people, but I can't name the hour.

Damian (Damian), Tuesday, 10 September 2002 09:51 (twenty-three years ago)

Has anybody actually seen this mythical The Shakespeare? Can they even vouch for its existence?

petra jane (petra jane), Tuesday, 10 September 2002 09:59 (twenty-three years ago)

Does this work?

http://celebrator.com/9408/NewZealand.html

Tim (Tim), Tuesday, 10 September 2002 10:06 (twenty-three years ago)

Yes, the Shakespear Tavern is in Albert Street, more or less in the City Centre...brews its own beer and has quite a good jukebox as I recall.

gazza, Tuesday, 10 September 2002 10:10 (twenty-three years ago)

Ooh, jukebox! now we're talking!

petra jane (petra jane), Tuesday, 10 September 2002 10:12 (twenty-three years ago)

Jukebox, brews own beer = all is well. I'm going to be arriving before noon at the airport and then going to Damian's place to drop off my luggage -- I figured I would suss out the bus connections from there and try and be at the Shakespeare by, say, mid-afternoon, 3 pm or so? Should we make that the start time?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 11 September 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Sounds like you out-of-towners need some help with Auckland's navigational oddities. Best bet for understanding the incomprehensible (and, hence, seldom used) bus system is Rideline which is also useful solely for its maps. AirBus is the cheap alternative from the airport.

Real cities have trains.

debaser (debaser), Wednesday, 11 September 2002 02:44 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm back early, and provided I find my way out of the series of holes I've dug for myself (long story), I'll be there.

Foreigners may like to know we do in fact have urban trains; they just don't go anywhere useful.

B:Rad (Brad), Wednesday, 11 September 2002 04:59 (twenty-three years ago)

There's only one train worth catching in Auckland: the one to Wellington. Arf.

petra jane (petra jane), Wednesday, 11 September 2002 06:09 (twenty-three years ago)

Yep. A train to westie-land and a train to Papakura via GI. Damned useful, or just damned.

Of course, the train to Wellington provides an obligatory stop in Hamilton.... about which I won't elaborate in fear of offending petra jane.

debaser (debaser), Wednesday, 11 September 2002 07:20 (twenty-three years ago)

Hey, I'm already offended by Hamilton enough this week! The council has decided to nix the 'Update The Town Slogan' campaign. No more 'Hamilton, Not As Bad As You Thought'! Hruf...

petra jane (petra jane), Wednesday, 11 September 2002 11:54 (twenty-three years ago)

The trains in Auckland are fine. You just need to live in the right suburbs. In fact you should even ride on the one to Glen Innes just for fun cos you get to see an estuary with tree ferns and kowhai - which might be flowering - and herons and shags and then some horses. I miss Auckland as well as Dunedin. Although thinking that soon this valley will be covered with a 6 lane motorway cheers me up a bit. (well, actually it doesn't...)

isadora, Wednesday, 11 September 2002 20:04 (twenty-three years ago)

Okay, looks like the plans are in place -- Andrew Palmer and I will be there at the Shakespeare Saturday afternoon at 3 pm or so and we'll see the rest of you as we do!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 13 September 2002 07:55 (twenty-three years ago)

Alas, events have conspired against me attending this shindig. Bugger! I'm sure you all had a ball. Auckland certainly turned on the Sun for you Ned! Its been a glorious day. Would love to have met you all, but theres always next time!

gazza, Saturday, 14 September 2002 07:20 (twenty-three years ago)

i got a call from petra while they were fapfapfapping. dunedin misses you awready ned.

di smith (lucylurex), Saturday, 14 September 2002 07:24 (twenty-three years ago)

Well i think it's safe to say the seven of us had a fantastic time FAPping. As for the rest of you, we expect a note from yr mums by Wednesday.

petra jane (petra jane), Saturday, 14 September 2002 12:19 (twenty-three years ago)

I just got BACK from the FAP and I'm in high spirits, it was fun. Apparently Petra "rocks".

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Saturday, 14 September 2002 12:32 (twenty-three years ago)

dunedin misses you awready ned

Aw. Well, I miss it in turn, and yes, last night was way cool, mang. :-) Thanks for making my last evening here a great one! I will never doubt Andrew and Elizabeth's joint powers to kill zombies.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 14 September 2002 23:43 (twenty-three years ago)

You coming to Scotland, Ned?

david h (david h), Saturday, 14 September 2002 23:49 (twenty-three years ago)

I was half planning a return trip to the UK for next summer as part of a larger voyage that would run thus: LA to Japan to Moscow/St. Petersburg to Europe to the UK to LA. Might not happen at all, though, and if it does, I'm not sure if I'll have the time to swing through Scotland. It would be nice, but we'll see!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 14 September 2002 23:53 (twenty-three years ago)

Meh.

david h (david h), Saturday, 14 September 2002 23:55 (twenty-three years ago)

Well, if you're going to be THAT way. ;-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 14 September 2002 23:58 (twenty-three years ago)

Alls I'ms sayings is: Scotlands: greats!

david h (david h), Saturday, 14 September 2002 23:59 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh, it is. I've been there three times. :-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 15 September 2002 00:15 (twenty-three years ago)

haha aucklandz0r was so good I'm coming back on friday! (well actually no, it's because I've got tickets to Lee Perry etc etc).

I am saddened we didn't get to use the jukebox at the pub, tho.

(Coming soon to an ILX near you, Fancy A Commute On Public Transport...
petra in precog shockah!)

Ess Kay (esskay), Monday, 16 September 2002 07:03 (twenty-three years ago)

Got 20c for the Spacies, bro?

I like how Elisabeth appears to be huddling and sticking her fingers in her ears in a couple of these, and Damian is still auditioning for the Man Machine cover art.

petra jane (petra jane), Monday, 16 September 2002 09:43 (twenty-three years ago)

you guys are cute.

di smith (lucylurex), Monday, 16 September 2002 09:50 (twenty-three years ago)

oh i look funny! i never realised how much i play with my ears.

Elisabeth (Elisabeth), Monday, 16 September 2002 09:52 (twenty-three years ago)

Gosh!! In this pic: http://petrajane.com/1fap/1fap04.htm Ess Kay looks like a BUFFY DEMON! This is a good thing!

There are not enough PINTS in your fancy a pint pictures, you shd rectify this by having another FAP.

Sarah (starry), Monday, 16 September 2002 10:20 (twenty-three years ago)

I thought Elisabeth was on a mobile phone!

jel -- (jel), Monday, 16 September 2002 10:22 (twenty-three years ago)

Jel's right - that's Di reprazentin' for the D-ville massive. Actually i think they were mostly squealing over Sleater-Kinney [and rightly so!]

So who'd be up for a Hamilton FAP then?

petra jane (petra jane), Monday, 16 September 2002 10:27 (twenty-three years ago)

I DID NOT SQUEAL.

Elisabeth (Elisabeth), Monday, 16 September 2002 10:54 (twenty-three years ago)

Rock on w/the nongirlyness, E!

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Monday, 16 September 2002 11:01 (twenty-three years ago)

my eyes! like GIMLETS!

Ess Kay (esskay), Monday, 16 September 2002 22:47 (twenty-three years ago)

i squealed. actaully, i said MEEP!

di smith (lucylurex), Monday, 16 September 2002 23:29 (twenty-three years ago)

my eyes! like GIMLETS!

Pretty good one-man Bowie impersonation you've got going there.

Got the rest of my photos back, yay! A couple of good ones from this FAP, along with some more Dunedin joy. Time to warm up the scanner when possible...

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 17 September 2002 00:36 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh good. More pictures of me. Aren't those inadvertent "redeye" effects one of the weirdest/coolest side effects of photo technology?

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 17 September 2002 01:14 (twenty-three years ago)

Ned, how did the Futurians/Prepill Love/International Telepaths/DANCING! photos turn out?

Ess Kay (esskay), Tuesday, 17 September 2002 01:51 (twenty-three years ago)

You look mahvelous.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 17 September 2002 02:01 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh Ned, is there any way i cld get a [proper] copy of the cocktails photo? I just love that to pieces so much!

petra jane (petra jane), Tuesday, 17 September 2002 03:53 (twenty-three years ago)

Arrangements can yet be made...

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 17 September 2002 05:17 (twenty-three years ago)

Di MEEPed! Oh I was so calm and collected.

Elisabeth (Elisabeth), Tuesday, 17 September 2002 10:43 (twenty-three years ago)

eight months pass...
"Ned, how did the Futurians/Prepill Love/International Telepaths/DANCING! photos turn out?
-- Ess Kay (orpheus_n...), September 17th, 2002"
REVIVE. I have no photos from the past three years & am feeling vaguely sad about it.
(& the Futurians = one of the things I'm starting to miss most about dunedin . . .)

Ess Kay (esskay), Tuesday, 20 May 2003 11:07 (twenty-three years ago)

choice

ducklingmonster, Tuesday, 20 May 2003 23:15 (twenty-three years ago)

Er um uh. Yes, a scanner. Yes yes.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 20 May 2003 23:17 (twenty-three years ago)
