Saw this at Fantasia here in Mtl, opens in limited release this Friday. Very curious to see how the critical reception plays out - personally I thought it was way more engaging than any other American indie this year, especially in comparison to the surprisingly lame Another Earth. The most accurate synopsis I can come up with: All the Real Girls with explosions.

All the Real Girls with explosions
^too good to be true

its kinda been on my radar for awhile since Sundance or SXSW or wherever it premiered. Psyched!

The Slant rave published today is otm. Also, I interviewed the director/writer/star/gaffer etc. last week over the phone and he was adorably awkward, kinda refreshing given all the PR-ready filmmakers I've spoken with recently.

meanwhile the AV Club tore into this today, even dropping a Tommy Wiseau reference.

I hope it's an All the Real Girls that works.

meanwhile Glenn Kenny is convinced it's all-out misogyny incarnate:

has anyone here but me seen this yet?

two months pass...

If In the Bedroom was Death Wish for the NPR crowd, this is the same for Pitchfork boys (with extra woman-hating). Loathsome.

also, G Kenny otm here:

"the characters here are a couple of the biggest closet cases in the History of Western Culture"

I'd even give this Glodell guy a good hatefuck.
