Inspired mostly by the fact that I still can't get my head around the same dude doing Brothers Keeper and Blair Witch 2.

left out the upcoming stuff, so if u wanted to vote in anticipation of Untitled Paul Simon Documentary or Raising Hell: The Visions of Clive Barker (or i guess Paradise Lost 3) too bad 4 u.

I am still holding good will towards this dude despite him helming that absolutely fucking terrible self-reacharound congratulatory iconclasts show.

let me save you some time - yes, it's probably racist (jjjusten), Thursday, 1 September 2011 23:52 (thirteen years ago)

I think you're reaching a bit far if you want to argue for him as some kind of "auteur". This looks like the career of a committed documentary filmmaker who more frequently has to take other jobs to make a living. I'm sure there are many similar filmmakers with careers like this.

Pizzataco Five (admrl), Friday, 2 September 2011 00:50 (thirteen years ago)

I've seen like six of these. Paradise Lost or Brother's Keeper are probably the best of his stuff. I don't hold the crap against him. Even Errol Morris made that Lou Diamond Phillips movie for a paycheck.

Fig On A Plate Cart (Alex in SF), Friday, 2 September 2011 02:05 (thirteen years ago)

Another example of admrl's phenomenon is Apted whose non-Up career is so littered with "other jobs to make a living" it makes Beringer's work for hire seem practically saintly by comparison.

Fig On A Plate Cart (Alex in SF), Friday, 2 September 2011 02:07 (thirteen years ago)

Michael Apted has got to be close to 20 years older than this guy though

Pizzataco Five (admrl), Friday, 2 September 2011 03:28 (thirteen years ago)

and there's nothing un-"saintly" about taking money for work you don't care about. That describes many people I know!

Pizzataco Five (admrl), Friday, 2 September 2011 03:31 (thirteen years ago)

voted iconoclasts cause i thought it would take me to all 20 episodes

dj roombahton (zachlyon), Friday, 2 September 2011 03:35 (thirteen years ago)

dude im not talking about him being an auteur or calling him unsaintly w/e that means, i am saying that this is a super odd list of films

let me save you some time - yes, it's probably racist (jjjusten), Friday, 2 September 2011 03:43 (thirteen years ago)

is "Crude" watchable? its gonna be on sundance channel idk if i should even bother

johnny crunch, Friday, 2 September 2011 03:43 (thirteen years ago)

Saintly was maybe the wrong word. Artistically consistent? Either way I don't fault any of these dudes for taking/making money where/how they can.

Fig On A Plate Cart (Alex in SF), Friday, 2 September 2011 03:46 (thirteen years ago)

It's totally watchable.

"dude im not talking about him being an auteur or calling him unsaintly w/e that means, i am saying that this is a super odd list of films"

...that you want us to vote for?

Pizzataco Five (admrl), Friday, 2 September 2011 03:47 (thirteen years ago)

this whole thing came up because people were talking about bwp2 on the horror thread and shakey mo was getting confused about why paradise lost came up and i thought "oh yeah i bet most people dont know about this" and then found the untitled paul simon doc and iconoclasts and went oh huh

like tbf brothers keeper/paradise lost doesnt exactly mesh with crude/grey matter and it gets even odder when you throw in some kind of monster and this clive barker thing, and thats just docs

let me save you some time - yes, it's probably racist (jjjusten), Friday, 2 September 2011 03:47 (thirteen years ago)

xpost uh. yes? that is what polls do?

let me save you some time - yes, it's probably racist (jjjusten), Friday, 2 September 2011 03:48 (thirteen years ago)

wait are you defending iconoclasts, because that whole series was one steaming pile of shit - i'm not taking him to task on it because of some sell out vibe, i just think its garbage

let me save you some time - yes, it's probably racist (jjjusten), Friday, 2 September 2011 03:50 (thirteen years ago)

I was going to add Barbara Kopple to this list, but it looks like the only paycheck movie she's really done is Havoc, and that had Anne Hathaway's best/worst acting to date.

BWP2 >>>>> BWP, for the record

one month passes...

Crude was good. pretty surprised the texaco chief environmental officer was allowed 2 be in this, tho she stuck 2 the company line obv

also a lot of the outtakes were or are being subpoenaed for hte trial?

johnny crunch, Thursday, 20 October 2011 16:21 (thirteen years ago)

I missed this poll. Paradise Lost and Brother's Keeper were both life-changingly awesome for me.

Blair Witch 2... yeah. Didn't it get majorly fuxxored by studio editors after Berlinger finished it? I'll say one thing for it, it has a cool score (Carter Burwell).

Axolotl with an Atlatl (Jon Lewis), Thursday, 20 October 2011 19:21 (thirteen years ago)

^yah berlinger sez the studio put his cut of BW2 in a blender

one year passes...

huh he did this look back @ the financial crisis thing

johnny crunch, Sunday, 15 September 2013 01:45 (eleven years ago)

yeah i saw him and hank paulson, etc. interviewed on charlie rose.

his career isn't very WTF--he does a lot of projects of his own devising, and a bunch of more commercial stuff to pay the bills, no?

blair witch 2 is the wild card, but of course, if you owned that property, wouldn't you seek a filmmaker with documentary experience to make the sequel?

flesh, the devil, and a wolf (wolf) (amateurist), Sunday, 15 September 2013 04:37 (eleven years ago)
