One of my two favourite painters ever, and the subject of the best art show I've seen this year (at the Hayward in London).

One extra adjective, a very undervalued quality in art, at its best in his work: funny. I'd also think of playful and musical.

he is one of the few artists that moves towards unmitgated joy imho. he seems to love life and play and all of those other wonder stuff. also i love his blues. YAH KLEE.

I like at least some periods of his work. (I don't know enough to say which though.) Definitely one of the painters I think of when I think of the good old days of Modern Art.

My favourite period of his work was when he and Kandinsky lived next door to each other (and shared the garden) while teaching at the Bauhaus. It's even more my favourite period of Kandinsky, and he's probably the only painter I love even more than Klee.
