Elizabethtown - don't knowVanilla Sky - tentative yes, but with caveats and asterisks up teh wazooAlmost Famous - definitely yes, and i know i break w/ ilx on this oneJerry Maguire - no waySingles - yesSay Anything yes
on balance pretty 'yes' for at least being interesting and in control of his medium, but 'no' for kind of boring subject matter.

i hope smoove will improvise some lines about shaking dicks, smart-ass mouths, champagne croissants, etc.
― caek, Wednesday, 14 September 2011 22:45 (fourteen years ago)
it's based on a novel by gerald mee. i don't think there's enough in the trailer to go on, the kid (the avatar for crowe) looks like a ponce, and thomas hayden church seems like he's been touched in his privates by an angel. on the other hand, bears and lions and zeebers.
― remy bean, Wednesday, 14 September 2011 22:46 (fourteen years ago)
is that a real lion/is the lion wearing make upthomas haden church sounds like tom hanksawkward pairing of 'i love the humans' with shot of 11 year old boyscarlett johansson is probably perfectly nice but when you see her acting 'nice' it seems somehow false/ill-fitting
idk what kind of roles matt damon should take, his touchy feeliness is nagl

i am SO disappointed this is a movie and not an actual news story
― some dude, Thursday, 15 September 2011 00:22 (fourteen years ago)
like the idea of a random assemblage of seemingly unrelated celebrities who love animals got together and bought a zoo. damon's like "affleck and clooney laughed at me when i brought up the idea, but i heard scarjo and cameron crowe want to own a zoo too, let's do this.
― some dude, Thursday, 15 September 2011 00:23 (fourteen years ago)
Wow, Cameron Crowe sure does like to have characters who quit their jobs working for the man
― Number None, Thursday, 15 September 2011 00:27 (fourteen years ago)
If this is based on the book WE BOUGHT A ZOO, I predict it will be grrrreat!

Oh never mind, I just watched the trailer. It's gonna suck.

Yeah I when I saw this thread this afternoon I was sort of excited and thought the cast looked great. I watched the trailer while walking home. :/ It looks awful.

And I like so many of the cast members too!

it looks pretty bad. hope springs eternal that it'll be Elizabethtown bad though.
― Gukbe, Thursday, 15 September 2011 01:48 (fourteen years ago)
Elizabethtown takes a lot of shit, but I love that movie.
― Johnny Fever, Thursday, 15 September 2011 01:57 (fourteen years ago)
it's terrible, but i've seen it way too many times to say it's terrible
― Gukbe, Thursday, 15 September 2011 01:59 (fourteen years ago)
Say Anything... - Like, but don't love it, even if it's regarded as a touchstone of Gen X films. It's a little precious.
Singles - Kinda don't like this one at all. Watched it a few months ago and reaffirmed my position.
Jerry Maguire - Only saw it once. Barely remember it apart from the scenes that have bled into pop culture.
Almost Famous - Didn't like it originally, but came around to it by the third viewing. Still no strong feelings.
Vanilla Sky - HATED THIS FUCKING MOVIE. The worst deus ex machina bullshit I've seen in my life.
Elizabethtown - My favorite Crowe film. One of the only accurate portrayals of southerners I've ever seen in something that wasn't actually a documentary. They're neither treated as yokels nor romanticized in silly ways. Both the father/son story and boy/girl story were twisty and engaging.
Hrm...I just realized my opinion of Cameron Crowe isn't as favorable as I thought.

still funny
― akm, Thursday, 15 September 2011 07:19 (fourteen years ago)
elizabethtown is a pretty terrible movie, guys. i can sorta see that there might be some rescuable element to its depiction of southerners, but you'd have to see past the two lead performances to get there, and they're really bad.
