If I had to die and I had to be looking at one thing when I died, it would be your sauce.

En-dive
ahn - deev sounds way too pretentious
― ᒓᴥᒔ (ENBB), Monday, 19 September 2011 20:01 (fourteen years ago)
I heard the Frenchy way first and that was the only time I ever heard the word for years and years, had never heard it the other way, so "ahn-deev" seems normal to me. :-/

Bechamel sauce is quite possibly one of my most favourite things in the world. Whenever I make some if I'm making mornay casserole or lasagne or whatever, I... eat the left overs straight out of the pot with a spoon. All of them. :/
― Silent Hedgehogs (Trayce), Monday, 19 September 2011 23:56 (fourteen years ago)
x-post - I've heard both but my parents said En-dive so maybe that's why that just seems more normal to me. Sort of think of it like Pee Can v. Pi cahn. In the former camp there as well.

ahn-deev just sounds wrong to me, but i think i knew the word from xword puzzles before i ever heard anyone mention them out loud so i sort of just assumed it was pronounced N-dive
― the *facepalm* at the trend of the hivemind (donna rouge), Tuesday, 20 September 2011 00:01 (fourteen years ago)
I wouldn't get angry at someone for saying it the other way but I just can't bring myself to. For all I know that could very well be the correct way.
― will eat pudding (ENBB), Tuesday, 20 September 2011 00:01 (fourteen years ago)
Sometimes I forget how I prounounce words though. I did this recently when I said vase and pronounced it "vahz" which isn't what I'd normally say. It caught me off guard and then I kept running it over and over agian in my head.
I also do this with Wifi because sometimes I forget and say it like weefee. Iirc I did that once on the phone to Hoos and like 2 mins later he was like, "Uh, did you just say weefee?". The diff here though is that I think the pronunciations we were talking about before are all right whereas weefee just isn't. At all.

i compromise by saying ahn-dive?
