We've not done it in a while, and there are lots of new Londoners, so why not. Next couple of weeks maybe, somewhere central. Anyone up for it?

Matt DC, Thursday, 29 September 2011 11:38 (fourteen years ago)

It's my birthday mid-week next week so I think I'll be a bit busy. Thursday 13th isn't bad for me.

My parents get here next Thurs so before that would be good for me, i.e. Tues? If dl can do it, of course

i can get with that. i probably wouldn't be able to make it until somewhere between 9 and 10 on that wednesday where everyone's free, but some hasty strong drinks to catch me up would see me fine for the remainder of the night i'm sure.

i have always hated the "just after work" aspect of these. i still can't believe anyone a) leaves work as early as 5pm b) goes straight to the pub. TOO EARLY, SO WRONG, MAKES IT FEEL LIKE WORK DRINKS. i cannot be in a pub for evening weekday drinking earlier than 8pm.

lex pretend, Thursday, 29 September 2011 19:41 (fourteen years ago)

Good reasons for this:

- Going home and back after work is a pain in the arse for a lot of people
- Also pointless
- Some people have to head home early so want to arrive early
- People might want to hang out with those people who need to leave early

Also I love how your post implies no problem with the falling over bit.

Matt DC, Friday, 30 September 2011 08:38 (fourteen years ago)

I'm unlikely to be in the pub before 6.30 or so at any rate. Although I might favour a pub that serves food.

Matt DC, Friday, 30 September 2011 08:39 (fourteen years ago)

pub in the Euston-ish area, Weds 19th, then?

pretty spoilt for choice - the Euston Tap might be too little, but there's the bree louise (beer!), the exmouth arms (universal jukebox!), the square tavern (estate pub!), the doric arch (um)...

Or do we want to be classic and go for a Sam Smith's (of which none nr euston iirc), in which case maybe somewhere like the Yorkshire Grey or the Fitzroy Tavern?

If you're stuck for a point of difference for the Doric I would suggest 'view over the bus station' and 'annoying code thing on the toilet doors'. No thanks.

Matt DC, Friday, 30 September 2011 08:47 (fourteen years ago)

stet is in london, now?

Ward Fowler, Wednesday, 9 November 2011 10:48 (fourteen years ago)

It was quite good, yes. It was good to see all those people. I found this slightly moving. I liked to see Colette for instance who surprisingly said she had moved back to England. I met Dog Latin. Three ILB specialists were present which made for an entertaining sort of fap within the fap, it appeared.

The beer was good, expensive and almost all unusually strong.

A great book called THE FOOTBALL MAN was examined and its author's provenance read out loud and then investigated online. Arsenal and Tottenham fans enjoyed their new reconciliation and mutual respect.

I liked to see Geeta and hope to see her again soon. She announced a gig that Mike said he would like to go to.

I asked Mike to name his 5 museum exhibits for the exibition after Postmodernism. They included

an old camera
Peter Eastoe, 1981
Ever Decreasing Circles

That's only 3. I don't recall if there were two more.

The l0u1s jagg3r fellow showed up late which I thought was a good effort. We managed 8 accents from around the British Isles on our way through the East London Line. Then we wound up on a late bus through New Cross. It is odd to encounter such places with other human beings. Maybe we will go to see a Charlton Athletic home match.

I did not enjoy the weekly fire alarm test at 10:30 :(

The Eyeball Of Hull (Colonel Poo), Wednesday, 9 November 2011 10:57 (fourteen years ago)

This was great and we should do it again soon. Attempting to explain "bubble and squeak", "toad in the hole" and "scotch eggs" to Geeta was very entertaining, seeing as there was a lot of lolbritish food on the menu. Best ingredient in B&S is clearly the duck egg though.

That was probably the least steady I have ever seen Steady Mike as well.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 9 November 2011 11:10 (fourteen years ago)

Mike stated that Everton would finish in the top 8.

Not sure if he now counts that as 'effusive'.

the pinefox, Wednesday, 9 November 2011 11:12 (fourteen years ago)

yeah that was lots of fun, fantastic to meet geeta at last! mmm quail eggs duck eggs all the eggs.

i drank a lot of wine but am oddly unfragile and in fact think i may go for a RUN now.

I would love to go to that but, alas, the pull of putting the kids to bed is actually stronger. Can't do two nights out in a row.
