Anjelica Freakin' Huston. Classic or Eternal?

No threads devoted to one of the greatest living American actors!

Search: Prizzi's Honor, The Dead, Enemies: A Love Story, The Witches, The Grifters, The Crossing Guard. Rather wasted in The Royal Tennenbaums (wish the movie had concentrated on her character instead).

I loved her amusing bit in Manhattan Murder Mystery; you can see why fuddyduds like Alda and Allen competed for her attention.

Anakin Ska Walker (AKA Skarth Vader) (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 3 October 2011 16:16 (fourteen years ago)

I've seen the teenage debut she did for her dad. She's right, she wasn't ready.

incredibly middlebrow (Dr Morbius), Monday, 3 October 2011 16:17 (fourteen years ago)

can we uh fix this thread title?

as I said elsewhere, she's great in 50/50. reminded me I should see the Grifters again, I remember her performance in that one being very striking.

Yeah, her names got a 'j' in it.

are those electrodes or a tapeworm?

Anakin Ska Walker (AKA Skarth Vader) (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 3 October 2011 22:17 (fourteen years ago)

loved her more before she sullied herself by association with wes anderson. i'll settle for shelley duvall

remy bean, Monday, 3 October 2011 22:22 (fourteen years ago)

she's great in all of the Wes pictures tho

unorthodox economic revenge (Shakey Mo Collier), Monday, 3 October 2011 22:23 (fourteen years ago)

(I love Shelley Duvall too fwiw, but she hasn't worked nearly as much)

unorthodox economic revenge (Shakey Mo Collier), Monday, 3 October 2011 22:23 (fourteen years ago)

It's true that she's good in all the WA movies, but I feel like she is Angelica^2 Huston^2 and deserves better. I love her unreservedly, not the least of all as Hank Azaria's E buddy in Huff

remy bean, Monday, 3 October 2011 22:26 (fourteen years ago)

Is The Witches any good? I bought that the other day to inflict on my kids.

master musicians of jamiroquai (NickB), Monday, 3 October 2011 22:33 (fourteen years ago)

She directed "Riding the Bus with My Sister", and thus I will always love her.

Homer Simpson had this fantasy/dream one time where he won an Oscar and he's giving his acceptance speech, wherein he thanks his "beautiful wife, Angelica Huston. We did it Angie!" I always wondered how the writers arrived at her for his dreamwife.

Anyway, Classic. She and Raul Julia were kinda perfect for The Addams Family movies.

The Man With The Flavored Toothpick (C. Grisso/McCain), Monday, 3 October 2011 22:36 (fourteen years ago)

Anjelica Huston isn't "attractive" but I find her powerfully sexual.

Yeah, her names got a 'j' in it.

Done.

I like to think she did this just to make Rosie look bad

^^^ exploited in (the otherwise riseable) Crimes and Misdemeanors.

Witches is phenomenal, but I'd def. watch before showing to your kids. It's pretty messed up. (Even more than Dahl's story).

remy bean, Monday, 3 October 2011 22:39 (fourteen years ago)

I saw the Witches in the theater because I liked her so much - it's a pretty great kids movie

unorthodox economic revenge (Shakey Mo Collier), Monday, 3 October 2011 22:39 (fourteen years ago)

lol

um how old are your kids I guess

unorthodox economic revenge (Shakey Mo Collier), Monday, 3 October 2011 22:39 (fourteen years ago)

This picture of her on imdb is... unfortunate.

^^^ exploited in (the otherwise riseable) Crimes and Misdemeanors.

not sure what you mean here... I mean one half of C&D is pretty funny (and intentionally so). her part not so much, but I don't see what was exploitative about it. It's not like someone sat on her chest and burned her with a cigar.

unorthodox economic revenge (Shakey Mo Collier), Monday, 3 October 2011 22:41 (fourteen years ago)

i meant 'exploited to good effect' lol

remy bean, Monday, 3 October 2011 22:42 (fourteen years ago)

ah gotcha

unorthodox economic revenge (Shakey Mo Collier), Monday, 3 October 2011 22:44 (fourteen years ago)

Allen dressed her most unfortunately in C&M.

Anakin Ska Walker (AKA Skarth Vader) (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 3 October 2011 22:44 (fourteen years ago)

I guess he wanted to make her pitiable and awful.

Anakin Ska Walker (AKA Skarth Vader) (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 3 October 2011 22:44 (fourteen years ago)

um how old are your kids I guess

5 & 7. Thinking about it, I did put Labyrinth on for them the other day and they were crying actual tears of terror and asking me so switch it off after about only three minutes. And that was even before they saw the state of Bowie's haircut. Hmmm.

master musicians of jamiroquai (NickB), Monday, 3 October 2011 22:46 (fourteen years ago)

5 is probably too young

unorthodox economic revenge (Shakey Mo Collier), Monday, 3 October 2011 22:47 (fourteen years ago)

just get the Fantastic Mr. Fox instead (no AJ content tho)

unorthodox economic revenge (Shakey Mo Collier), Monday, 3 October 2011 22:48 (fourteen years ago)

love her! i think she kind of looks like my mom, but tall and white.

Anjelica Huston is a nonce.

bamcquern, Monday, 3 October 2011 22:50 (fourteen years ago)

Thanks Shakey, think I'll heed yr warning!

master musicians of jamiroquai (NickB), Monday, 3 October 2011 22:50 (fourteen years ago)

oh man that scene ^

there's one moment where she looks like she's let down her guard completely, totally, just for a second, and it's so very very heartbreaking

remy bean, Monday, 3 October 2011 22:53 (fourteen years ago)

seven years pass...

An extraordinary interview:

You once wrote that you feel like people physically become the people that they are inside.

It’s the opposite of The Picture of Dorian Gray. They become what is inside.

Do you think people also get the careers they deserve? He was on top of the world and then his career disappeared.

Yes, I do. And I think you also get the face you deserve. Have you seen it lately?
