No misogyny intended--many of my friends do this pose! I think the digital self-portrait has something to do with it.

I think it's in part an alternative to either overtly smiling or not-smiling.

While still appearing cute, it also reflects thinking and is kind of the opposite of a dead look (+ the things La 'chera said).

probably--though a lot of the women in these photos are already wearing bronzer applied at an angle to 'sculpt' the cheekbones. old makeup artist trick. the woman up at the top of the thread overdid it with the bronzer, looks like

the woman up at the top of the thread looks like she just had a root canal.
