Ravaging Rick Rude (a hoy hoy), Wednesday, 12 October 2011 08:52 (fourteen years ago)

One. My Front Door Key.

2 years ago it would have been 4:
House, Car, and two bolt type keys I could not tell you what they were for.

Mark G, Wednesday, 12 October 2011 08:59 (fourteen years ago)

i have 9 and i think only one of those is useless

Bee OK, Wednesday, 12 October 2011 09:03 (fourteen years ago)

7 - two for house's front door, two for work's front door, one for the corridor leading to work's front door, one for the shopping arcade where my work used to be situated (I love still having this key - if I wanted I could go in at like 3am, use the code which I still remember to get into the tunnels under the arcade, and run around like an 11-year-old), one for my ex-gf's front door so I can feed her/our cats while she is on holiday

8 if you count the bottle opener which is a key to opening beer

the green manalishi (with the big boobies) (DJ Mencap), Wednesday, 12 October 2011 09:11 (fourteen years ago)

2 real keys (flat, bike)

Tuomas, Wednesday, 12 October 2011 09:17 (fourteen years ago)

8 keys:

  • cheapo metal file box key #1
  • cheapo metal file box key #2
  • old rucksack key
  • disk box key
  • front door key #1
  • front door key #2
  • back door key
  • padlock key from a padlock that hasn't been used for 10 years
I need to remove some of these.

triple black belt in ILX-fu (snoball), Wednesday, 12 October 2011 09:24 (fourteen years ago)

Yeah, but one day you will be at a door and wondering how to get in. At this point you will try a key previously regarded as redundant. It will not work. So you try the other one. And that does.

and you will go "ah I wondered what that one was for"

Mark G, Wednesday, 12 October 2011 09:25 (fourteen years ago)

I've got 2 bunches of keys with 14 keys on each = 28

Mostly work stuff, plus ones for bike locks, locks for my tools at the veg plot, house, car, shed and about 3 or 4 mystery ones that I'm sure do something very important indeed.

1 for apt door

1 for bike lock
1 for lock i v. occasionally use at the gym

mookieproof, Wednesday, 12 October 2011 16:53 (fourteen years ago)

A humongous electronic car key, home key (operates both front door locks), an old gf's key I can't bear to part with, one family member's home. That's down over 50% from several years ago when I needed two house keys, mailbox key, work, outdoor rec facilities at my apartment, and a few keys that have been replaced by electronic cards that stay in my wallet rather than my keychain.

Do American cars (General Motors anyway) still use separate keys for entry and ignition? That was a pain, especially since they only fit in one direction.

Everything else is secondary (Lee626), Wednesday, 12 October 2011 16:55 (fourteen years ago)

at my old house my landlord gave me a key when we moved that was supposed to unlock the backdoor but that was made for a different lock. i never got it fixed or asked the correct key but just carried it around for the whole time i lived there. i think its nice to have enough keys on my key ring to give it some heft, just two keys look so lonely

Lamp, Wednesday, 12 October 2011 21:51 (fourteen years ago)

yeah i think thats why i still have that key on my keychain, that and a childhood of fantasy novels that lead me to believe that i will eventually come across a secret door in the apartment, that can only be opened by my extra key, that leads to narnia or whatever

WE DO NOT HAVE "SECRET" "MEETINGS." I DO NOT HAVE A SECOND (Laurel), Wednesday, 12 October 2011 22:09 (fourteen years ago)

max that reminds me of a story that I'd forgotten until now

when I was a kid, when my mom got married to my stepdad, I was like what, 7 or 8 or so, my friend, who I was playing with, who was my age, got locked in a closet without a handle on the inside. I was freaked out, and he was yelling, and it was in a different part of the venue where the wedding was held, so I had to run down a bunch of hallways, into the room where the ceremony was taking place (it was an indian wedding ceremony that was loooong as fuck so people, usually kids, could walk in and out as they pleased). I busted into the room and shouted if anyone had an ax. Everyone stared and me, and then kind of looked at the priest, who stopped for a moment, but just continued going on, and I was like, ____, _____ is locked in a, and before I could even finish, his dad stood up, put his hand on my back and guided me out of the room. He calmly asked me where the closet was, went to it, pulled a key rin with like 30 keys on it out, tried one that looked like an old timey prison key, opened the door, let his son out, and just wordlessly went back to the ceremony.

puff puff post (uh oh I'm having a fantasy), Wednesday, 12 October 2011 22:13 (fourteen years ago)

rin = out I guess

Ice Old Bee (jaymc), Thursday, 13 October 2011 16:02 (fourteen years ago)

My parents found/were given a box of crazy old keys to the original locks on every door in our house, when they bought it. I wonder what happened to all those. And every door means EVERY DOOR--every doorknob was also a lock.

WE DO NOT HAVE "SECRET" "MEETINGS." I DO NOT HAVE A SECOND (Laurel), Thursday, 13 October 2011 16:02 (fourteen years ago)

No sorry that's inexact: I mean every door that had a doorknob also had a lock plate. Sort of like

Oh, I said two the other day but it's really only one. One key.

I do have a separate key ring for my car but that also only has one key on it so I guess two wasn't wrong but it wasn't how I was looking at it initially.
