Coming back to school C or D?

Last night I was walking in the rain listening to Depeche Mode on my headphones, today I had marvelous conversation with many. Am I unhappy or not?

But lets not talk about me... no, really.

I like walking in the rain and Depeche Mode, but last night I didn't have the choice. I had to mill about like a teenager. Or a cliched character in a movie.

Dud. Every time I come back from vacation, there's always this moment of acclimatization when I get on the commuter train at the airport and I realize that the walking advertisement for J. Crew sitting next to me is going where I'm going. And as I start getting nauseous, she spots someone she knows and they start gibbering, and I wish that I had picked up a bottle of Stoli at the duty-free instead of a carton of cigarettes because only one of these options will give me the courage to beat them over the head with my suitcase. GRRRR.

I can hardly remember so far back, though I do remember setting a school record for the earliest disciplinary interview with a senior teacher - 15 minutes after the start of term. That was pretty good.

first day of school - classic, but it's all downhill from there.

I always liked going back to college/university. I've always regarded September as the first month of the year.

(by the way this thread is about all school not just university, so this means everyone can answer, assuming we all at least went to kindergarden!)

Dud! because the first day is when you pick Your Seat in the class. The one that you'll be obligated to sit in for the rest of the year. And if later on someone else happens to take Your Seat you must present a nonchalant facade to the rest of the class, but let's face it: when you take Someone Else's Seat you are impinging on the unwritten Law Of The Classroom.

haha yes except in one class this new teacher had a diagram of the classroom prepared and he wrote in who we were, and referred to that to learn our names. So after that first class me and my pal John Blair swapped places. I'm small with brown hair, he was a huge redheaded Scotsman. I answered to John Blair for the next several weeks, and he to my name. Late in the term, once the teacher had thrown the chart away, we swapped places back, and I answered to my own name, which got him angry because by then he knew very well that I was John Blair. In the end he dragged me in front of a senior member of staff for disciplining, for pretending to be Martin Skidmore. It was hilarious. He had a nervous breakdown soon after and never returned, so I obviously feel guilty that I might have played a part in that. But it's the pupils' job to try to give their teachers breakdowns, I think...

I am going tomiss Frosh week. Im going to miss the 24 hour train ride there and the massive days of cleaning and the trips to the Alcool NB and reclaiming my PC station in the lab.
I might even miss the all nighters staring at a bright green unix prompt, though i doubt it.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Saturday, 31 August 2002 18:10 (twenty-three years ago)

Frosh? I'm guessing (from the 24 hour train ride also, which is never actually scheduled in Britain) that you're not from around here. Is this like Freshers' Week, with things for new students?
