Have You Ever Learned Anything Useful From A Dream?

I don't really mean prophetically useful but if you have averted disaster by a fateful dream then do tell. I mean useful about yourself.

Do we need to do new answers again?

Tom (Groke), Saturday, 31 August 2002 07:09 (twenty-three years ago)

No, but then my two last vivid dreams have been about Kenneth Williams and Rob Van Dam, so that's probably a good thing.

you could have called up RVD and been like "watch out for big dudes brandishing folding chairs"

This is my most important dream: I have a disobedient dog and cat in my house that I'm trying to train. As evening falls Jesus appears in the house, near the deck, and walks through the room. He has a radiant presence and doesn't look at the pets but they come and sit obediently in front of him. The room is slightly dusty and softly lit because it's evening. As usual in Christian iconography Jesus appears sad but calm. The moral is: 'There are other methods of training.' The meaning is, for example: you do not control people by direct interference, but by becoming something yourself - not an example of what you want them to be, but a presence that isn't focussed upon anything.

Did you dream about Rob Van Dam fighting Kenneth Williams, Dom? Was it a close thing? Or were they matching wits, which I suspect would be equally one-sided? Or perhaps it was a sex dream...

I exposed Karl Kennedy and learnt never to tell people preminitious Neighbours conspiracy theories.

Sadly, Ken and Robert were in seperate dreams. Kenneth was sitting in the foyer of a redbrick university holding court with a group of people I used to go to school with, whilst Rob Van Dam was strolling into a nightclub whilst some guy was threatening to jump from the fire escape.

They'd make a good sitcom couple, methinks. Kenneth Williams probably throws a more believable punch than *Points To Self*, though.

Yesterday, I saw my neighbour sunbathing in the garden. She is very sexy, and a dentist. I was amusing myself thinking about the best ways of chatting up a dentist.

As a result, I had a dream last night about chatting up a dentist. It wasn't her, though, it was a man. And we were mostly talking about my teeth. I told him I hadn't been to a dentist for ten years (which is true, but I'd never really worked out how long it's been before). He very seriously told me I had to go soon.

The dream therefore taught me that I must visit a dentist. I probably won't, but I'll think about it. Maybe the dream has saved me some diabolically painful sessions in a few years time. Maybe it hasn't.

Are you pointing to yourself in that R-V-D way, Dom?

I am constantly reminded that masturbating in public is a rotten idea.

I fancied a tattoo before a frustrating dream when i had one, hated it, + couldn't get rid. thereafter i completely lost interest.

(hopefully not prophetic but last night i dreamt of falling out with anthony on ILE, why was not clear, i was distraught)

stevo (stevo), Sunday, 1 September 2002 05:54 (twenty-three years ago)

I had a dream the other night that for Christmas my Dad got me a recharger and rechargeable batteries for my digital camera. Now I know what to ask for for Christmas.

i have a startling capacity for murder.

jess (dubplatestyle), Sunday, 1 September 2002 12:57 (twenty-three years ago)

You found this USEFUL N?????????

(I'm disturbed that there's something about that comment more disturbing than the comment itself, or wondering what kind of dreams you're having. Drilling technology AHOY)

Graham (graham), Sunday, 1 September 2002 13:02 (twenty-three years ago)

do not, under any circumstances, talk to sharks.

I learned to bruch my teeth quite frequently! Yes! Because , but they said it was free to have brushed teeth. You just scream until the world wraps around you and it sucked up your germs!

My parents split up when I was nine. I didn't feel very comfortable around my step mother for a few years, mainly because she was a sort of symbol of everything that had changed. Then I had a dream, featuring Corrine my step mother and all was fine. This was acceptance rather than learning.

And from this weekend's exceedingly weird dreams: I now think that sleeping with Melvin Bragg would be a really bad idea.

Anna, Monday, 2 September 2002 07:18 (twenty-three years ago)

You thought it was a good one before?

RickyT (RickyT), Monday, 2 September 2002 07:23 (twenty-three years ago)

Um ... yes.

Until Saturday's dream I had a bit of a thing for Melvin Bragg. I can't explain or justify it, there was just ... something about him.

Anna, Monday, 2 September 2002 07:29 (twenty-three years ago)

I learn things in dreams through osmosis or something while sleeping through the Today programme. It's quite good being able to catch up on sleep AND news at the same time. Psychologically... nothing much. Mostly I have anxiety dreams about forthcoming stressful situations (practically everything in my neurotic case).

Archel (Archel), Monday, 2 September 2002 07:38 (twenty-three years ago)

Ew.

RickyT (RickyT), Monday, 2 September 2002 07:53 (twenty-three years ago)

i learnt last night that being told by the mafia you have but one hour to live is an uncomfortable and unpleasant experience. also that there are probably beter ways to spend your last hour than sitting getting drunk in the bar of some cheap isolated rural hotel, somewhere in eastern europe, whilst the locals look at you warily.

stevo (stevo), Monday, 2 September 2002 07:54 (twenty-three years ago)

If the next season of the South Bank Show features a show on freelance music journalist Anna Fielding, we know why.
