unless there's a groundswell of opposition (and even if there is tbqf) i was thinking of doing this. i did a poll for the 2000s and it turned out pretty well, good discussions and really good turnout:

The (Now-Overrated) ILX Top 100 Films of the 2000s Poll Results

this decade had a poll before (almost 7 years ago!) but maybe it's time to revisit?

i'll keep this one open until after thanksgiving, voting to commence in one month?

nominations and discussion below. *~~dig deep~~*

omar little, Monday, 31 October 2011 20:09 (thirteen years ago)

I'm stuck in 2011-in-review land til the year ends (around Dec 7), so 'fraid not. Or if I cave and spend time on this, goddamn you to hell.

Dr Morbois de Bologne (Dr Morbius), Monday, 31 October 2011 20:11 (thirteen years ago)

Oh wait,

this decade had a poll before (almost 7 years ago!)

So, no.

Let's do the '30s next year.

Dr Morbois de Bologne (Dr Morbius), Monday, 31 October 2011 20:16 (thirteen years ago)

occupy wall street 2: rummy never sleeps (darraghmac), Monday, 31 October 2011 20:22 (thirteen years ago)

Maybe you guys can get the desired result this time: Tarantino 1-2-3.

Dr Morbois de Bologne (Dr Morbius), Monday, 31 October 2011 20:26 (thirteen years ago)

the campaigning starts here

he carried yellow flowers (DJP), Monday, 31 October 2011 20:27 (thirteen years ago)

Need to rewatch things I liked at the time like Dreamlife of Angels, Fucking Amal, etc... to reassess.

encarta it (Gukbe), Monday, 31 October 2011 20:41 (thirteen years ago)

Omar so this is just for people to post ideas, yeah?

Juggy Brottleteen (ENBB), Monday, 31 October 2011 20:41 (thirteen years ago)

The Iron Giant (Brad Bird)

encarta it (Gukbe), Monday, 31 October 2011 20:41 (thirteen years ago)

maybe someone should post the link to the earlier poll so we can see why this one is unnecessary.

Dr Morbois de Bologne (Dr Morbius), Monday, 31 October 2011 20:42 (thirteen years ago)

The old one

Which I didn't vote in but it seems to hit most of the big ones. Still, we need awesome stills and not lolDVD covers.

encarta it (Gukbe), Monday, 31 October 2011 20:44 (thirteen years ago)

At quick glance that does seem pretty comprehensive. I think the DVD covers are sort of charming.

Juggy Brottleteen (ENBB), Monday, 31 October 2011 20:45 (thirteen years ago)

I would totally vote with utter unfair subjectivity in this. I'm so sick of Pulp Fiction and Goodfellas that they wouldn't make it onto my list.

encarta it (Gukbe), Monday, 31 October 2011 20:47 (thirteen years ago)

characteristically pointless of you (in the case of Goodfellas)

Dr Morbois de Bologne (Dr Morbius), Monday, 31 October 2011 20:48 (thirteen years ago)

aw, you said i have a characteristic. :)

encarta it (Gukbe), Monday, 31 October 2011 20:49 (thirteen years ago)

Goodfellas is an uncharacteristically pointless piece of shit.

dor Dumbeddownball (Eric H.), Monday, 31 October 2011 20:49 (thirteen years ago)

first comes love,
then comes marriage
then comes morbius gubke

Tarfumes The Escape Goat, Monday, 31 October 2011 20:52 (thirteen years ago)

Pulp Fiction is Tarantino's worst movie

xp

unorthodox economic revenge (Shakey Mo Collier), Monday, 31 October 2011 20:53 (thirteen years ago)

ah, the Paulette line on Goodfellas!

stepstepstepstepstep *SLAM*

Dr Morbois de Bologne (Dr Morbius), Monday, 31 October 2011 20:57 (thirteen years ago)

My list at the time, for a friend's site:

1. Boogie Nights (Paul Thomas Anderson, 1997)
2. GoodFellas (Martin Scorsese, 1990)
3. Miller’s Crossing (Joel Coen, 1990)

OK, that last poll was rather thorough.

lumber up, limbaugh down (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 31 October 2011 21:02 (thirteen years ago)

I don't know bunk about 1990s foreign films. I'll have to search Netflix Instant for recs.

encarta it (Gukbe), Monday, 31 October 2011 21:02 (thirteen years ago)

hana-bi/fireworks
princess mononoke
ed wood
barton fink
crash

may not wind up voting for any of these but want them out there.

strongo hulkington's ghost dad, Monday, 31 October 2011 21:06 (thirteen years ago)

folks can nominate and discus herein. i think the other poll was valid but figure there are different posters now, different films that have shifted in reputation, and also i could dig up some dope stills from blu-ray discs.

omar little, Monday, 31 October 2011 21:11 (thirteen years ago)

i support this poll btw.

strongo hulkington's ghost dad, Monday, 31 October 2011 21:12 (thirteen years ago)

mostly because omar's 2000s poll enlivened a rather shitty winter that year and i suspect it will do the same for this one.

strongo hulkington's ghost dad, Monday, 31 October 2011 21:13 (thirteen years ago)

also the stills were lovely.

This is a beautiful moment right here.

Juggy Brottleteen (ENBB), Monday, 31 October 2011 21:24 (thirteen years ago)

Maybe this poll could be for 101-200? The second '70s album poll was pretty top-notch and more interesting than the top 100 poll in a lot of ways.

SNEEZED GOING DOWN STEPS, PAIN WHEN PUTTING SOCKS ON (Deric W. Haircare), Monday, 31 October 2011 21:39 (thirteen years ago)

^^^

This.

dor Dumbeddownball (Eric H.), Monday, 31 October 2011 21:42 (thirteen years ago)

he carried yellow flowers (DJP), Tuesday, 1 November 2011 14:17 (thirteen years ago)

I like the idea of excluding the original poll's top hundred, but how about this twist: voters can include one film from the old poll. Would anything make the top hundred again?

D. Boon Pickens (WmC), Tuesday, 1 November 2011 14:27 (thirteen years ago)

How 'bout this twist: the poster who gets the most pics in wins a Cuban sandwich.

this came up on another thread, but apparently she directs the occasional tv series ep these days. the 90s in retrospect seems like a promising moment for increased presence of women in directing. i guess holofcener and bigelow have hung on, but others didn't.

horseshoe, Tuesday, 1 November 2011 18:33 (thirteen years ago)

speaking of which, i probably wouldn't vote for it, but every time i catch strange days on tv i have to watch it through to the end. so 90s that movie!

horseshoe, Tuesday, 1 November 2011 18:34 (thirteen years ago)

yeah, recently i discovered that if you look up pretty much any prominent female director from the 90s on imdb, you'll find that they do most of their work in TV now - anders, harron, bird, it goes on. not that there's anything wrong with TV, its better than not working at all, but it's hard not to think that they would've gotten more opportunities to do features if they were men...

lol i havent seen most of that list, just thought people would find it useful to be reminded that stuff even existed. putting it together made me realize how utterly impossible it is to have any kind of nostalgia for the post-tarantino mid 90s where every other movie is an ensemble of guys in suits holding sideways guns

glad tam tam covered F.A.R.T. the Movie

Youth Ya Goon (Whiney G. Weingarten), Wednesday, 2 November 2011 04:16 (thirteen years ago)

Russell has two passions: watching television and farting!
He also loves Heather. Heather HATES farting. The eternal
triangle! One day she warns him, "if they ever allow farting
on television, you'll never leave the house!" Sure enough,
one evening he goes to sleep in front of the TV, and "it"
happens. Virtually everything on TV is fart related, from sitcoms
and commercials, to newscasts and dramas. Starring JOEL
WEISS as "Russell", and SHANNANDOAH SORIN as "Heather".

i'd love to know what the letters in F.A.R.T. stand for

The sham nation of Israel should be destroyed. (Princess TamTam), Wednesday, 2 November 2011 04:18 (thirteen years ago)

When the producers were looking for technicians to work on the movie, several trade
publications including DAILY VARIETY refused to run the "help wanted" ads until the
word "fart" was removed from the ad copy. The ads were accepted only after the title
was changed to "Windbreakers".

keep it up, homies

omar little, Thursday, 3 November 2011 21:33 (thirteen years ago)

we should just turn this into an all-time action movies poll, right? i feel like it might be a scuffle to get a decent turnout for this one.

omar little, Monday, 7 November 2011 20:47 (thirteen years ago)

i was gonna say in the kael thread, but you're the only guy on here i'd trust to run an action movie poll. it's the poll you were born to do

omar little, Monday, 7 November 2011 21:11 (thirteen years ago)

We have concluded on the Kael thread that action movies did not exist until the 1980s. So "all-time" is a pretty specious modifier.

kurwa mać (Polish for "long life") (Eisbaer), Wednesday, 4 July 2012 21:48 (thirteen years ago)

No. Omar did the action poll instead, thus launching the trend of ilx genre polls.

Electro-Shock Rory (C. Grisso/McCain), Wednesday, 4 July 2012 21:59 (thirteen years ago)

We already did a 1990s poll in 2005, though:
