Hang on, calm down, what do you mean shafted?

really? is this the high-tech version of that 'I caught hubby with frozen chicken' story?

sorry I don't know much about iMacs except that mine is temperamental.

My only suggestion is to try rebuilding the desktop by holding down the option and apple keys when you turn on the power.

You could also try holding down Option, Apple, p, and r to "zap the pram" on restart... (and try not to hurt your hands doing it) keep it held down through THREE chimes at least and then let it boot normally.

"Zap the pram"???

(parameter-ram, it's kind of like resetting the bios settings)

Tracer spent all weekend "zapping the pram", heh heh heh.

haha I work in computers and have a First in computer science and I know bugger all about them really.

there's a little battery in macs that holds a few settings, like date/time, mouse speed, and sometimes this can get corrupted and fuXor with yr whole system... "zapping the P-RAM" is sort of a last-ditch mystical incantation for the truly hopeless... at least it's better than "flipping the CUDA switch" (ahem)

Or hold down the shift key to start without extenstions & see if it's a software conflict from one of them. Kicking it sometimes helps, too. Not that I've ever done that.

twenty-two years pass...

My uncle gave me an old
PC workstation. He hadn’t bothered to reset it so I had go into recovery mode and reinstall. Progress was being made, but then it showed me a nice looking blue screen, with the ominous message, UNRECOVERABLE ERROR
