TOP 100 ACTION FILMS OF ALL TIME NOMINATIONS AND DISCUSSION THREAD

the '90s thread feels redundant, if i'm being honest with myself, and a few folks were down with an action movies poll, so let's make it happen.

i think we all know what an action movie is, i guess the only question is do we include action movies that overlap with other genres they might be more readily identified with, i.e. 'the wild bunch', 'starship troopers', 'etc (i vote 'yes' but others may disagree.)

omar little, Monday, 7 November 2011 21:34 (thirteen years ago)

unless we're doing a poll on those other genres too, then yes?

This is extremely fake, but this is the kind of cop we need. All human cops were bullies in high school and all cops are criminals with badges. They rape, they beat they torture. Robo-cops can't do that shit unless they're programmed to.

Speaking of the 70s, did Peckinpah's The Killer Elite get mentioned? It's overlong and not too engaging in spots, but does feature Robert Duvall vs ninjas on a battleship, IIRC.

The Thin Red Line

so the def u guys have of "action" is either "cool and recent" or "a film where anything happens"

Notwithstanding Malick's profound ambivalence towards the filming of the, uh, action scenes, TTRL is shot through the war film genre, and these scenes are, furthermore, hella rad, man. (I admit it's a challopsy/leftfield nomination, but imo qualifies nonetheless.)

lEEE (Leee), Friday, 20 January 2012 03:54 (thirteen years ago)

More Cumin Than Cumin (Leee), Thursday, 12 December 2024 23:25 (seven months ago)

It seems like the action movie poll is one that could be redone, since it was unleashed in the era before the new Mad Max films, the John Wick series, the Rebecca Ferguson era Mission impossible films, Edge of Tomorrow, Dredd, etc

omar little, Friday, 13 December 2024 02:38 (seven months ago)
